so I have a hard time to decide what combo I should play.
my leveling focus is ~75% dungeons, ~25% quests - PVE server.
at level 60 I want to farm BRD, Scholo, Strath and later DM.
my main will be the warri (tank)

team 1:
warri (tank)
ret1 with BoK
ret2 with imp. BoM and Sanc aura
ret3 with imp. Ret aura
holy pala with imp. BoW

team2:
warri (tank)
rogue1 combat
rogue2 combat
rogue3 combat
holy pala with imp. BoM

pros /cons team1
+ no mount costs outside of the warri
+ tons of buffs / auras
+ tons of heals
+ easy 'rotation'
+ later game good execute
+ buble and lay on hands for 'oh shit moments'
+ can wear every armor type
+ rets got 8% movement speed for better melee uptime

-/+ mana for the rets (should be no problem with all buffs and you can switch to seal of wisdom for one mob to regen)

- no staves for the rets
-- no cleave

pros / cons team2
+ no mana / downtimes for the dps
+ easy rotation as combat sword
+ can slow with crippling poison
+ decent selfheal with judgment of light on a target
++ great cleave DPS on a 2 min cooldown

- classquest for poisons
--- need gold for 4 mounts instead of just one!

so, what would you say? is the dps of team1 somewhere near team2, or should I just forget about 3 rets all along?
I remember leveling my classic pala as ret and the levelingspeed (deep ret, no reck!) was fine and way faster than my warrior as arms.
my biggest 'problem' was my mana, but that would be alot better with 4 pala buffs.

Personally I would not even consider running the 1st team at all unless I had my own Mage on a 6th account (or as an alt on one of my 5 accounts) as having to buy water will greatly dilute your profits (pun intended).

Much discussion has been made that Rogues are squishy and hard for multi-boxers to optimize with the general recommendations being to go with at most one Rogue in your MB party (and driving from that Rogue). Maybe a Sword Spec with some assumptions on timing of combat points helps mitigate those concerns (don't really know).

If I had to choose from one of those teams, absent my own pocket mage, I would definately choose option 2. Even if I had a pocket mage, option 2 may be significantly better if the Rogues can be kept alive and their DPSs reasonably optimized (or at least salvaged).

That above being said, with the goals you articulated on a PVE server and your apparent comfort with melee-based teams, I would do neither team and instead do 4 Warriors+Healer (Priest or Paladin/Shaman depending on Faction). Since the reasoning behind this recommenation has been discussed multiple times already I respectfully recommend you read here:

thanks for your feedback. in the end I'm concerned about the gold for the 4 mounts at level 40.

thanks for your feedback. in the end I'm concerned about the gold for the 4 mounts at level 40.I think the general thought is the more gold you should get overtime from a more efficient grinding should offset that pretty quickly and then return more rewards over time.

In other words you may not be able to get mounts for your full team quite as fast but once you do, since that is a one time cost, you will be making much more gold going forward. If you run a less-efficient & mana-intensive DPS team without free water you may actually have less gold early on AND in the long run compared to other options...

In my case I haven't worried that much about initial mounts as from 40 -> 60 because I don't plan to do much movement as I will be staying instances all the way and only change once I out-level an instance. If I have enough gold at 40 or before 60 to buy mounts fine but if not I am not that worried... Once I get to 60 I will keep grinding gold until I get enough for a full set of mounts for my team (if I don't have enough already) so it should be a non issue. If my memory is correct on my BiS gearing plan I will be in BRD for a long time trying to get lots of BiS options from my team including 5 'Hand of Justice' trinkets and at least 1 Ironfoe (among many other things).
