Lifehacker has a great article on trimming down Windows to get optimal system performance. Running multiple accounts on one system can take a toll and this can minimize the impact the OS has on the resources. I have taken a few of the steps post os install and seen a nice boost.

Looks like something I'll definitely check out when I go home. I always hear Gurb talking about his stripped down shell of Vista in IRC, and when he runs 5 instances of wows his in use memory is below 2 gigs, where as I with a stock installation hover around 2.3-2.4 gigs used up while running all of my 5 instances. Not sure if this alone will make that difference, but I'm sure it will help to achieve that.
Good find.
If you're serious about this you may want to read the tweaking guide from http://www.tweakguides.com/TGTC.html ... available in XP/Vista versions, and it does explain why it's saying to do something rather than just talking you through it and leaving it as voodoo.
