Hey, thanks for the reply John.
I am looking for an addon so that i can keep the melee in range of the tank/target. I have seen IWT at work (but never used it myself), but what worries me is the wander off element that will cause a definite wipe and a waste of 15-20min in the case of WoW Classic. I prefer to have a safer option to just keep the melee next to my tank and move the target mob so that my melee is facing the correct way.

Any IWT being sent to melee breaks follow, and any follow being sent breaks IWT.
I can see how to do it, but I don't see it working well in combat. My gut says EMA and the auto-follow after combat option is your best bet.
Edit: Thinking about this, are you just trying to keep melee close to tank so they are in range to DPS? Are you using IWT?

Yes, I need my melee up close to be in range of fighting. I have no experience with IWT, but I am a bit skeptical if it will for me, as I plan on doing mostly dungeons, where a IWT wander off could prove fatal and net a 15 min downtime for resurrection/rebuffing/etc on Classic WoW. So i prefer the safer option of just having the melee next to me at all times.

Follow Strobing in EMA.

Normally, you'd just learn to control it better, and nothing is going to make it easier to use than practice.

Have a look at this thread: https://www.dual-boxing.com/threads/54562-Fixing-the-melee-IWT-runaway-problem

Since OP mentioned Classic I'd like to bring up
Tauren’s hitboxes and their melee reach is slightly larger than other races.

Seems like they would make the best follower for not using IWT.

Follow works fine. IWT is just available if you wish to make use of it.

do you think it's so big that they can hit from where they stand behind the driver ? I doubt it you probably still need to run through with the first guy and turn around ?

Google tells me in Vanilla it was 2 yards, that sounds significant if Classic copies it exactly.
But this may be a double edged sword (pun). What if your tank is a Tauren? With his larger hitbox wont your followers be following back further now? It would need testing to know for sure.
