View Full Version : How do you deal with all the hatred towards multiboxers?

Hi all,

I decided to 5 man box for the first time and am enjoying the stress test. IsBoxer and EMA are both marvelous.

However, i realized i'm more or less hated by everyone. People randomly come to me and spit on me. Some called me names and hurl insults. I even avoided main questing areas so that I dont get in the way of the quest givers....but the insults never stopped.
How do you guys deal with all these hatred? I really like open world grinding/kill quests.....perhaps I should just hide and level in the dungeons.

I don't mind that people rage when they see multiboxers.

The only issue with people hating multiboxers is that it could hurt you if the premades/raid guilds go like "oh that guy, I have seen him multibox, we hate multiboxer, you aren't allowed to join our group!", so it could potentionally be harder to get in premade bgs/raids.

I don't know if you can report people on blizzards servers for being offensive to multiboxers although I assume so (I have only 2-3 boxed on blizzards servers in the past). It is not allowed to do it on PS so fun to write a quote of rules when they do and everyone quickly becomes silent.

Quote from blizzards rules: "You may not use language that could be offensive or vulgar to others.
Hate speech and discriminatory language is inappropriate, as is any obscene or disruptive language. Threatening or harassing another player is always unacceptable, regardless of language used. Violating any of these expectations will result in account restrictions. More serious and repeated violations will result in greater restrictions."

It is the same on retail too. I find most people literally stop in their tracks when they see a big boxer lol.

You can mind your own business and people still whisper insults, follow you around, start debates in general about "cheating", call you a bot and they're reporting. - Just so you know I have probably been reported 100s of times and no contact from Blizz was ever made so you don't have to worry about the false reports.

You grow a thicker skin over time. I do respond to haters that whisper, politely just stating it isn't against the rules, just to cut down on the potential reports that wastes Blizz's time. Don't let others make you feel ashamed for boxing, it is perfectly legal and it's their problem not yours if they don't like it.

I take a screenshot, it's like collecting pokemons.

Back in the days of BC, there were a multiboxer who make a website to post multiboxing haters wisps screenshot, we need that back ! For tears and lulz.

Get it all the time and have done for years.

I do alot of wPvP in areas alot of Horde and Alliance gather on my (BFA) server shard.

The ones that do get you are people who have been friendly for a long time and try to jump you during a big fight or turn for no random reason and start spurting off.

I hang around Gurubashi alot so sometimes faction lines change with free for all PvP flags :)

I've only had a couple people over the years and the hate was minimal, the majority of people I interact with are pleasant with me. Retail is certainly fine with multiboxers for the most part.

I have even had people stand up for me. Very recently I was in a warfront and someone said "A multiboxer lets kick him" and someone else said "Why he's pulling his weight." and nobody kicked me. Same with all the group world quests, people see me helping and are OK with it. If I see someone soloing a rare I stop and help and they /wave or /thank.

I drop a bling6k then drop five bling5k so they fight and people are like WoW thats awesome. When I hearth I put on a show, spread my team out and use an assortment of the hearth toys and people are like Wow cool!!

If someone is mean and continues being mean I just put them on my ignore list, but currently there is nobody on it. I'm just not seeing the hate you see.

I had both the hate pm's and then asking why I do it and they were the ezey bunch too deal with lol.. But the hard 1 for me was the people I was in a guild with friends with on facebook. I started multiboxing was so we could raid has a guild.. Sadly in away they walked out of my life heheh... But the other side of that is I found a awesome and fun way too play WoW♥ And a awesome group of people that all are here for one another:o

I did not see any multiboxers, it doesn't seem like we'll be more common in classic than in retail. And its a stress test, why wouldn't they just assume you're stress testing? I just don't get the hate.

I was questing with three other multiboxers (one 5x, one 2x, and one 3x) in the stress test last night just in the couple hours I was on, though arguably that will be different when it goes live.

As for people hating multiboxers, eh, the opinions of mental midgets are just not worth spending any brain cycles on.

I've been reported so many times, the GMs stopped asking me anything other than "Yo, you multiboxing?" "Yep!" "OK, happy hunting!"

I only three-boxed for a little while last night (EU-Razorfen), but in the hour I spent around Goldshire there were two other boxers. Earlier while leveling a druid I saw a 5 chars called Cyberpunk / Cyberfunk / Cyber* around Shadowglen.

I have found that the majority of people think it's cool and they ask a lot of questions.
Only 4 people in total had said anything negativ about it. Get a life, waste of money etc.. These people always find something to complain about, If it's not Multiboxing they say that your a bad tank, you ninjalooted this and you couldn't CC that mob.. Just ignore them and move along..

I've tried to be as helpful as possible. Ressing people, healing them and taking care of adds when they aggro mobs and to not steal all the mobs when there are other players around.

I suspect a lot of us do that. It's such a minor thing to us, and I doubt most solo players realize it. I had one guy send me some gold and greens after leveling in the same area as every time I'd see him fighting a mob, I'd just hit it with 5x drive-by DoTs. He was thankful for me helping him get the quest done in like 1/10th the time it usually took him, and he was playing a utility class at the time.

I rarely have issues now that /follow isn't allowed in the BGs anymore. I did have some before that but /ignore is what I usually did (unless it was a GM). The few times I did get questions from a GM I was both respectful & patient and just confirmed I was multi-boxing and had no issues.

I get a lot of questions once i tell them im not botting. on the stress tests, i just helped ppl (i think i must have 50 kills on hogger last weekend).

usually after that, i cross the same ppl again and they buff my chars/cheer me. might be different when we get to wpvp.

Some ppl just wont stop harrassing me, i just /ignore. seems that you dont get layered with ignored ppl as one guy just disappear on the first day of test and havent seen him again. his name was xeph

It will be interesting if the 40+ boxxers play classic. One could imagine 40 mages/priests running around pvp servers spamming arcane/nova

It will be interesting if the 40+ boxxers play classic. One could imagine 40 mages/priests running around pvp servers spamming arcane/novaLOL that will be a sight to see. From the 'List of Classic WoW Multibox Teams (https://www.dual-boxing.com/threads/55707-List-of-Classic-WoW-Multibox-Teams)' & related Analytics (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1QtMH8RN9lYgdSaRBT3FTGrsdt51J4VhQB3WznkP47nA/viewanalytics) I see that at least 2 people plan to 10 box full caster groups (10 shaman & 10 mages if I recall correctly) and multiple people are planning groups of 5 shaman.

I 10 boxed Shaman in BC/WoTLK and they are crazy good between Chain Lightings/instants/etc & Chain Heals and self battle rezzes and mass rezzing out of combat they are very hard to fully wipe...

Wiping while killing 9 of 10 mages means you likely only have 1 mage left to face when you get back to where you wiped...

Wiping while killing 9 of 10 shaman means you likely still have 10 shaman to face when you get back to where you wiped...

EDIT: Just remembered that even if you wiped but didn't release and watched your DOTs wipe the 10th of 10 Shaman you will could still have 10 to face when you come back due only 1 of those shaman self-rezing and then rezing the rest... It takes only 20 seconds to get 4 of them up and only 30 seconds to get 8 of them back up... They are worse than cockroaches!

I deal with them by hitting "release corpse" before they can teabag my corpses!

Hence I'll have 4x lock and disc on horde side! No shamans to face, every setup face roll :) yawn! For alliance I'd roll something like 4x mage/1x disc! again op! )

40+ boxxers

Post-Wrath, spells would do full value hitting 10 targets or less and, when hitting more than 10, the total value of the damage done would be divided by the number of targets. In vanilla area damage caps were hard values so mass boxing will be less effective due to being much more susceptible to AE burst.

For example, the area damage cap on rank 10 arcane explosion is 37500 divided between targets hit (937 damage per character in a stack of 40.) Effectively, it just does full damage regardless of the number of targets because you're not going to hit for 900+ with arcane explosion.

So a 5 boxer could potentially wipe a 40 boxer if you can get a good initiation. One character to AE stun with a grenade then 4 x GSC and a CoC shatter is like 4500+ AE damage in 1-2 GCD's.

not to derail this thread, but do we know for certain that instants like arcane blast/coc/fireblast will get the shatter crit buff when they hit simultanously from multiple mages?

and on top of that you farm 10x rebirth totem to have 30 min cd (specced) which is 1 ankh/3 minutes with 10 shamans

Spell batching works in our advantage as a boxer since our casts are all within milliseconds of each other. Spells are almost guaranteed to be processed in the same batch even if the first spell that hits technically broke the nova they will all shatter.

I just got into it with a guy on reddit I wish I hadn't :( Best thing is to keep your mouth shut I think and just let them be ignorant

Here is the thread on the classic forums about boxing..

All I ever ask of my multi boxing brothers and sisters is be cool. Generally we all are and know not to wipe out the lowbies questing hub for hours or whatever. You know what I mean- just being a jerk. That being said- I have never personally ran into a multi boxing jerk lol. Love seeing other people out multiboxing.

There's been a few times over the years where I got the hate. People walking by saying f'ing boxer or whatever. If they piss me off too bad I just ignore them. Otherwise I try and keep my cool and educate the person. Ask them why the hate etc... Tell them how they can do the same thing and how much fun I have. How you can do it all with just gold etc...

I've taught many strangers where to get started multi boxing. Dual boxing and ISboxer are where I tell them they can learn EVERYTHING! Also what an awesome community is here at DB. I joined this forum back in WOTLK!!! Can you believe that? Took breaks here and there but back and hope to post again more often.

My Youtube channel is defunct now btw! Going to fix my signature now.

Ran into a couple of angry players on Ashkandi. Been spit on and tea bagged while drinking. Didn't reply to either of them as they didn't really deserve one based on their actions. On the flip side a couple of curious people have also asked me about boxing which i happily educated them on. Guess there's all sorts we'll run into.

I had some call me a bot, some were nice & asked if I was boxing.. and when I said yes they said cool and walked off. Needed a lot more signatures to make my guild than on retail and people helped out.

Welcome back to the forums Vyndree!. You and the other Dual-Boxing community members posting videos and guides got me into 3 boxing at the end of TBC, and 5 boxing for Wotlk. I had a blast 5 boxing that expansion and it was thanks you guys back then that inspired me to dive in and try it out.

Good to see you again and Thanks!

I'm on Ashkandi. Lemme know who so I can add 'em to ignore list if you're Horde. ;)
