Is it better to run old raids for mounts/transmog in a single group or seperate instances? Are the drop rates per character or per group?

When you do dungeons and raids at your level, you get what is called "personal loot." The game rolls independently for each person to see if they get a drop that fits their loot spec (you can set which spec you want loot, so you can run as a dps, but get tank loot if you're a warrior). So a boss could drop a piece for everyone, or no one. If all you get is gold when you loot a boss, you didn't win a roll for gear.

When you get to higher level, if you run raids that are 11 levels below you, or more, it runs "legacy loot" where it will drop items as if 20 people are raiding, of all classes. That way, if you want to solo raids, you can get more stuff (But it's not necessarily for your class).

If the transmog are for youself - some raids drop tokens that only can be used if you are a paladin, mage, warrior etc. and then there is plate, mail, leather and cloth that is soulbound.

If it is BOE transmog farming then 11 level

Ok that makes enough sense, but say I'm farming Bastion of Twilight for raw gold on my 5x 120's. It's a level 85 raid. Would they each get gold and mats dropped as if 20 characters were playing, or would they have to split it?

So pretty much my question is when multiboxing old raids, is it better to run in a group or do the instances separately solo?

I think for legacy loot mode (old raids) the total drop is same for the raid itself; so there is 0 benefit to bring more than 1 from a gold point of view (except maybe clear marginally faster; and then maybe be able to learn drops based on armor type etc for mog, but not for gold)

I'm not 100% sure though and that'd be a quick test, run it once with 1 guy, once with 5 or more and total all the drops ?
(I'm fairly positive for raw gold per boss; but less sure about other drops)

I will test it next time I log on. Time has been scarce for me lately so I spend most of my time in game fishing off the coast in Kul Tiras with my 5 druids. I barely have enough free time to make enough gold to keep my game time active. I figured I'd ask before I wasted my time setting up and lugging all my chars through there, but I guess I'll have to take one for the team and test it out for everyone.

No worries, I'll have the answer soon :-)

You are not going to see more loot from a boss in legacy loot mode with 5 man, you could even get less gold out of a run - it`s all RNG (random number generator) - like rolling a dice.

Well I ran my 5 druids separately, ungrouped but at the same time, through 25 man Heroic Bastion of Twilight. It took about an hour, and it was very clunky. With practice I can probably half the time. After vendoring all soulbound's and junk, I got 800-900 gold each per character.

I will run them again next week in the same instance.

Seems like you'd do much better just watching out for the BfA emissary quests that reward 2,000 gold for each toon for just completing four world quests. With flying, should only take about 15 minutes. Obviously, you can't do these all the time, but they pop up about twice a week on average.

Cool info, Tin. Wouldn't have thought that Throne of Thunder would be the gold farming winner (at least in total gold per run).

Still, emissary gold quests (when available) would probably be much more gold/hour.

It is always neat when people share some nice data they've created for themselves.

What's the result, very curious ?
