It is still, and will likely remain forever legal. Can't obviously say for sure, but there's plenty of official posts talking nothing but good things about multiboxing.

Many people will report you, don't bother getting annoyed. :p

+1 on kaynin's point. You will definitely get people who claim to "know the eula inside and out", be experts at "what is and isn't automation", heard rumors from friends about blizzard banning multiboxing in the next patch, or claim how it's only half legal (as in it's ok for PVE but you can't run BGs.)

When I was in a raiding guild, I suggested to my guildies that I was thinking about 5 boxing. My GM told me he read on official PTR forums that keyboard replicating software was going to be banned in patch 2.4, and that I should "have fun with it while it lasts." I asked for a link, he couldn't find it and didn't pursue the conversation.

So, yes. Even people you trust and have raided with for a while will have their own opinions, and may try and discourage you if they disagree with the concept.

Don't be discouraged. All you have to do is read the [extremely] long list of blue posts linked on Vyndree's blog and you'll feel better. Short and sweet, you can always tell people to "search for multiboxing on wowwiki, it is absolutely legal." Referencing a trusted and known source like wowwiki usually simmers them down.

multi-boxing .. is legal
harassment .. is not

next time, tell them you reported them for harassing you during your game play.

or just say "Ni Hao" from all your toons at once and walk away

sometimes, i miss SB and UO... at least in those games you could kill the ass-hats if they bothered you... and loot them bare and dance on their corpse. (not that i've ever done that... no.. that would be .. bad :D )

no one would dare mess with a multi-boxer if that were the case

I miss the days when I had a bona-fide insider @ blizzard... guy had been there over 6 years when he got on the wow dev staff, but got let go along with a LOT of developers the day before release... However, having a stitch of common sense, blizzard isn't going to spend all this time announcing how legal it is and defending it on their forums to turn around and ninja-ban players.

That would be PR disaster.

When in doubt, post on the official Customer Service Forums and review the current EULA and TOS.

EULA: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/eula.html
TOS: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/legal/termsofuse.html

Finally, tell your friends to link their official source or STFU.

Do you happen to be any relation to the forum trolls from Looks like I got "general forumed" ('http://www.dual-boxing.com/forums/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=5866') ?

Because it seems like you're cross-posting in General Forum with a NElf troll that's yammering the same illogical argument...

There have been some rumors on my realm recently, too. I have no idea where they come from, and I usually ask for a source.

All of the times, it turned out to be something like:
"My sister's neighbor's niece said she heard that it will become illegal soon."

Give me a break. What is their motivation (other than jealousy and malevolence)? I get the feeling that if they cannot stop me from playing the game as I like it, they have to at least try and get me worried.

(Moreover, I find the term "illegal" fairly inappropriate, as it refers to breaking an actual law.
Blizzard does not pass or enforce any laws, and someone who cheats in the game is not a criminal.)

God I miss those days.

To the OP: this has been covered & is dead & buried, thanks in no small part to Vyndree's hard work. It's been stated by Blizzard that mulitiboxing is completely legal.

Yes, it is still legal. In fact, I hear Blizzard execs are holding meetings as we speak trying to figure out a way to get all their customers pay for 4 or 5 accounts each.

I got a cease and desist letter from the FBI today.

Ok, not really. Only place I can think of where they might actually make multiboxing illegal would be China, and then only because they have some screwed up views on how much people can play MMOs over there and multiple accounts would be one way to get around some of the laws.

Aye, but then, in China it -would- be against the ToS. ;)

I just had a ticket resolved in game 2 days ago where 2 quest were not working for me. In the discussions I told the GM I was multiboxing and it didn't seem to be an issue so I believe we are still good.
