I have only done some casual dualboxing before, a long time ago. But I’m very excited to multibox in Classic. I haven’t really decided what my group comp will be yet, or if I will go all the way with 5 or stick to a 3 box. The only part I’ve decided is to have a mixed team to allow me to freely choose a main at lvl 60 after gearing up (i don’t plan on multibox raiding/pvp).

The benefit of a 5-box is it will be really easy to do dungeons and getting gear alone. Not having to rely on others.
The biggest con as I see it is the actual leveling, quests with a group of 5 will be tedious and almost force you to level in dungeons which will be pretty slow too.

I then thought of maybe a 3-box, this will allow me to do quests without being too slow and level quite quickly. But the con of that is of course I cannot run dungeons alone anymore.

As you can see I’m going a bit back and forth with these two options. So I’m curios what you all are planning to do!
What will your groups look like? And how do you plan to level with that group? Strictly dungeons? Questing?

I'm in a similar situation. I've been going back and forth between lvling 2 mages on launch, or a full dungeon group. Dual-boxing 2 mages to 60 will take about the same time as lvling 1 to 60 normally. You won't lose (much) time. Lvling a full dungeon group will slow you down a lot, but you can farm gold/pre-raid BIS really nicely when you're (close to) 60.

I've been leaning more to the full dungeon group idea. I'm thinking of leveling them mostly in the open world, and only doing a dungeon once if I have a few quests for it. At low levels I'd do a lot of quests, including most gather quests. At higher levels I think I would grind more.

I'd love to hear how other multiboxers lvled their 5 man groups in vanilla. I first multiboxed in Draenor, and can't find much online other than everyone saying that leveling in groups suck.

If I were going to stick to 2 boxes I'd go with a fury/prot spec (https://classicdb.ch/?talent#LZVVzVLxoVoxizox)warrior plus a paladin or shaman healer. Warriors are beasts for PvE and PvP if they have a healbot keeping them alive and finding 3 DPS to fill a group should be easy. You can pick which classes to bring so they don't compete for your loot.

By the way, if you have an efficient AE setup leveling in dungeons is actually very fast. A warrior/paladin, any healer plus 3x warlock/mage clears dungeons very quickly. I've already done the math elsewhere here but grinding dungeons is faster xp/hour than questing.

Thats interesting, thanks for that! I found it here: https://www.dual-boxing.com/threads/54894-5-box-leveling-balancing-efficiency-and-quot-safety-quot?p=417054&viewfull=1#post417054
Thats definitely given me enough confidence to go full 5-box and run dungeons all the way to 60

I guess a paladin tank would be best in that scenario, given that they can hold AOE aggro better. I hadn't really thought about that too much. In the end it kinda depends though how your group will look like, if you have enough AOE or more single-target damage. For low-level dungeoning I reckon you could tank with a warrior in dps specc to kill mobs quicker for example, if you are more on the single-target side for damage.

Warriors hold AE threat as well as paladins and have much better survivability and single target threat.

The main reason for choosing paladin over warrior is the utility of being able to swap the paladin into healing gear for raiding or PvP.
