Ok I recently started tri-boxing with 3 shaman hoping to level quickly, however due to the splitting of exp leveling is taking so much longer then if I did it by myself. Since I'm still only level 1 while Im completeing like my third quest I am not able to pick up the next quests because I am to low. Is leveling with multi boxing always this slow??

You will definitely lose out on some of the xp that you gain from normal mob killing. This really isn't very much of an issue to be honest, I had the same problem you did, but after quests start surging in I didn't find it to be a problem. It probably will be a little bit more time consuming then leveling a single character, but not that much more.

Also, keep in mind since you are only 3 members in a party, you miss out on the party bonus you would get for having 5 in a group. So you not only take the penalty for being grouped, but also lose out on the bonus when you do less then 5 boxing.

So If I five-boxed this wouldnt be a problem? I had planned to do this over the summer anyways but was put off by the lack of exp right now

You would still gain less experience then a solo character per mob. The reason I say this doesn't really matter though, is questing is still your main source of experience, and will still yield the same experience for all your characters. You will tear through quests (some collection quests aside) extremely fast, and with the changes to xp gain and having less xp per level is a big help.

Really, you are losing the xp bonus yes, but it isn't that big of a deal imo.

Just look at it this way:

lvlign to 70 with one takes 10d /played

lvlign 3 to lvl 70 takes 15d /played

15/3 = 5d /played eac caracter so your basicly lvlvign to lvl 70 in 5d /played!

hope it helps ease the mind :)

Also keep in mind that as you play, you learn how to run a multibox effectively.

If you haven't even dinged 2 yet, you haven't even begun to learn. Hell, I didn't have all my macro's setup effectively until I was in my teens... still tweaking and twisting things around today for that matter!

Since I'm still only level 1 while Im completeing like my third quest

I really hope that's a tongue-in-cheek example! I started two Draenai shammies last night to occasionally plug a gap in one of of my teams, and they dinged two just killing mobs for the first quest!

The exp is slower, but you do get a modest little exp bonus for teaming up if you 3 box. I'm 3-boxing with a Priest and two Mages. What I find is I have to swap between two areas to gain a constant flow of exp. Some of the leveling guides out there even suggest good quests to pick up in an area to help make things work smoothly. For the most part though, it is a tad pain in the ass, but eventually you'll feel the coolness kick in and it's a lot of fun. Right no I'm in my mid 20's and I'm starting to face some mild issues like dealing with Elites, managing aggro better and messing around a lot with Macros. It takes a lot of work, but I'm getting better at it all the time. One thing you have to realize, is that over time, you need to learn how to split your attention. It takes some getting used to. I'm still bending my brain around it and it's not that easy to do, honestly.

Quest, quest and more quests. With the recent levelling changes I am convinced that questing is faster than instance grinding (unless you can do the Anathema technique). Plus you'll get the questing gear upgrades and reputation increases which you don't get doing pure instance grinding. On my last levelling trip I did the following:

Elwynn Forest
Redridge
Duskwood
Arathi Highlands
Alterac Mtns
Hillsbrad
STV
All of Theramore and Dustwallow Marsh
Hinterlands (do all quests here, this zone is easy now)
first round of Shimmering Flats quests
most of Feralas but got very tired of travelling
only Desolace pre-reqs for Mauradon
some Tanaris (pre-reqs for instances)
some Badlands (pre-reqs for instances)
some Burning Steppes (pre-reqs for instances)
some Searing Gorge (pre-reqs for instances)
southern Felwood
Azshara
WPL
EPL

Instances:
Deadmines (few times)
Gnomeregan (just once, still a pain)
SM (couple times)
Uldaman (once, very easy now)
Mauradon (once)
ST (once)
BRD (full quest clear)
Scholo (full quest clear)
Strat (couple of quests)

Completely skipped:
Wetlands
Swamp of Sorrow
UnGoro
Winterspring
Northern Felwood
Blasted Lands

1-20 always seems harder. You must remember that when multiboxing, you CANNOT just grind mobs for xp. You're going to get total crap for xp. You can grind instances or elites (because elites are double xp), but for the most part, you get all of your actual XP from quests.

After lvl 20, you'll see a ton of quests open up.
