View Full Version : Need advice for my Hardware!
Hello all!
I don't know the best way to handle my problem.
At the moment i multibox with 5-man-teams, mostly for herb farming and mountruns!
My current PC can handle a 3-man-team flawless, but 5 is kinda hard. Especially in Boralus!
Once i am logged in for a while in the open world the FPS become stable and its looking pretty good.
I have all my slaves put on renderscale 0.5 and settings on low.
My main window is running at 60FPS, all other at 25FPS
Now to the part where i need your help!
I want it to be much smoother. And quicker loading screens, atm sometimes they are very very long.
I should be able to walk arount Boralus and every other city at a minimum of 40 fps.
Maybe i will give 8 Character boxing a try in the future, so that should be also possible.
Here ist my current setup, so you guys have an idea about it!
Intel Core i7-4790 CPU @ 4.00GHz
16GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce GTX 960
2x BENQ GL2450 24"
Picture of my PC - https://imgur.com/a/NPra4CM
The options that i see are the following:
1 - Sell the current and buy a new very good PC
2 - Buy a mediocre PC in addition and multibox with them both
3 - Upgrade my current PC for multiboxing (i don't know if its that easy)
My budget would be a maximum of 3000€, but i would be happy if its cheaper!
What do you think would be the best way to get there?
The only thing i can think of to improve is getting an SSD for quicker loading screens.
Maybe there are some magical tricks and tips for making my current Computer work faster, i don't know.
Thank you in advance,
Atsu

Cpu: Intel Core i9-9900K. Overclock to 5gz if possible.
Cpu cooler: any decent 3x12 cm or 3x14 cm all in one watercooler.
Ram: 64 gb ddr4 minimum
Gpu: nvidia 1080ti or better.
Harddrive: 500gb + ssd or a nmve m.2 drive.
Powersupply: 750 or better watt, 80+ gold rating or better.
This should be decent for up to 8box, with ok settings. But if you want very nice settings on all 8, you might need a cpu with more cores. If thats the case, maybe try factor in 4 threads per game, for added future security. Any 16 core cpu (32 threads) or better. Consider amd threadripper, if you cant find something intel thats "at the right price".
But i looked thru prizes and intel = yikes. Closest i would get personally, if i had to go intel, would be a Intel Core i9-7940X , 14c/28threads.

If you want new hardware thats fine. But maybe its worth to set background fps to smth like 15 or even less?
In most situations I'm fine with 7 fps in background.
When I played retail I had split load, 4 char per pc. My 4770k @4.2ghz with gtx 970 was fine, no render scale at all, main at "7" graphic settings. GPU load kinda low, CPU as well.
At least, you can play with settings and find is it fine or no.

Your budget is very very big, you can get a high end gaming computer for $3k.
If you just want to get the most you can out of your current system be sure to check out MiRai's vids. He has put out a couple on boxing performance.

But with 3k burning a hole in your pocket you're probably already leaning towards a whole new system.
Thank you for all the replies!
I sat down with a friend and we came to the following setup i want to buy :)

If you ment "x2" of that RAMkit, so you have 32 gb of RAM = thats a good thing, as you want atleast 32gb of RAM for 5 accounts with your settings, for added safetymargins, as you will be close to the 16gb mark.
If you can afford it, go for a 2080 or better.
Try get a powersupply with a little more watts, for more peak headroom, like a 750 watt, espesially if you want to overclock a bit.
It seems that when you use the M.2 slot...
*The motherboard M.2 slot #1 shares bandwidth with a SATA 6.0 Gb/s port. When the M.2 slot is populated, one SATA 6.0 Gb/s port is disabled.
*The motherboard M.2 slot #2 shares bandwidth with a SATA 6.0 Gb/s port. When the M.2 slot is populated, one SATA 6.0 Gb/s port is disabled.
If you plan to use that pc for a long time, and for other things, i suggest getting atleast 1 gb of storage. 500 gb can get a bit short, if you use steam and want to install and play other games aswell.
Besides that, looks good, wish i had that cpu for one of my 5mans /phuu. It should be very nice.
Sidenote:
its also cool to play around with this site:
https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/
Also lots of "completed builds" to take a look at there, get inspiration and so on.
Alright, i changed a few things :) Thank you for the reply!
Core i9-7920X @ 4,3 GHz (Skylake-X) Advanced Edition
MSI X299 GAMING PRO CARBON Intel X299 So.2066 Quad Channel DDR4 ATX

be quiet! Silent Loop 360 Komplett-Wasserkühlung
16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX schwarz DDR4-2666 DIMM CL16 Dual Kit
750 Watt be quiet! Straight Power 11 Modular 80+ Gold

Now i should be able to 5-man flawless and 8-man with ok settings while watching youtube, right?

Yes.
(small disclaimer: when i play on lowest possible settings on a pc with 10 games, it uses around 33 gb RAM, so with 8 accounts, on good settings, it might cutting it close, while also watching youtube/netflix). Just so you are aware of it.
But to boost the settings on your main, its the window you mainly look at afterall, its good practice to tweak around with the slot swap macros.
Spend quality time finetuning, use Mirai's videoguide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KiyDPf7DCRs&t=2
(There have been two updates to the CVars in Battle for Azeroth: SSAO & Shadows. Please see the link in the description for the full thread on dual-boxing, link below here).

16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX schwarz DDR4-2666 DIMM CL16 Dual Kit
I still only see 16GB of RAM. If "dual kit" means you're buying two of them, then why not just avoid potential issues and buy a single 32GB kit?
Oh, you are right.
Got any recommendation for me?
EDIT: I looked it up and i forgot to mention that i got 2x 16GB RAM kits so it should be 32GB :)

For future reference, mixing RAM kits, when overclocking, is never recommended, but based on the speed you're purchasing, you aren't overclocking it. RAM manufacturers sell matched pairs together like they do because they're tested together and guaranteed to work with each other, whereas when you buy multiple kits, they are not tested together.
Also a question: does the operating system matter? Should i get windows 10 instead of windows 7?

Windows 10 - There's no reason to be looking at an OS that is almost 10 years old.
Sooo... i got my final setup :)

Processor - Intel Core i9-7920X @ 4,3 GHz (Skylake-X) Advanced Edition
