View Full Version : Targeted Ganking

In previous posts I've held forth that I hold no recriminations against people who gank me, after all I've always been on PvP servers and what goes around comes around. I've played WoW for probably 2.5 years so have a good idea what constitutes fair and reasonable gankage. I would consider that 1 to 2 ganks per 3 hours of play to be fair and reasonable on a high population server at peak usage times in contested areas with lots of faction neutral quests. However, since my team hit the mid 40s and are now early 50s I've noticed that I have become the target of a few ally 70s. The same 70s are appearing again and again to gank my team, there's not a whole lot I can do to take out a 70 rogue and absolutely nothing I can do against a 70 ret Pally in full arena S2 gear lol. They are multiple me murderers.
In 2 sessions of 3 hours each the pally ganked me 3 times in Tanaris, 3 times in searing gorge. the rogue 3 times in tanaris. Definately the same pally and rogue. It also seemed that the word was put out that I was a good target for ganking as 6 mid 50 ally came to try and get me in a 15 minute period. Yes, 15 minutes. A warrior/rogue combo, a lone lock, a pally, a priest, a mage. They of course were toast even when the lock tried to gank me while I had 3 mobs on me. I'm not uber, I'm a multiboxer.
A 70 mage got me last night in Unguro Crater and I snapped and logged in my 70 Lock. But couldn't find the mage so I camped Marshalls Refuge and killed the Ally npc and any ally who wandered in , what's nice about marshalls is that there's a graveyard there now, so the ally can rez and I can gank them again and again and again. I am now suffering from gank rage :pinch:
And the point of this post apart from its cathartic use ^^ is that the only reason I've been ganked so much is that I'm boxing.
And another thing:
So last week I'm in the Hinterlands doing a quest where you have to pick up 10 bowls of blood (how delightful). So I arrive at some temple and start killing the mobs around this bowl, I kill them and a horde lock comes up and takes the bowl.....I say nothing and move onto the next group of mobs, I kill them and he does the same thing
me: "Hey mate, stop taking my bowls, I'm doing the quest"
him: "So what!, it doesn't matter as you're a botter"
me: "I'm a multi boxer"
him: "So totally coordinated firing isn't botting? yeah right"
me: "Well if you feel so bad about it go and report me"
him: already done
So he does it a few more times ( I have to get 50 of these :pinch: ) so I go off in a different direction. 2 hours later I'm doing a quest where you have to get insect parts in Tanaris, it's literally miles from anywhere, isn't on the way to anywhere and the only reason to be there is to do this quest. So there I am busily killing insects and in the distance behind me I can see a someone coming (I always have 1 toons camera pov facing behind us with max distance(paranoia))......and I think "awwwwDAMN I really don't feel like getting ganked again" anyway not to worry, it's a 70 tauren druid and he parks next to me and watches......and I say "Hi, I'm a multiboxer" and he says "I know".........silence.........sound of crickets.....silence and he just takes off the way he came.
Has anyone else experienced that? Could have been a GM I guess but that doesn't make too much sense.

I know how you feel. Leveling wasn't too bad in Azeroth but once I hit Hellfire Peninsula I was getting camped every 10 minutes :/ All I can suggest is keep leveling then when you hit 70..... well what can I say :P its time for revenge. Interesting side note: Whilst leveling I had one spare account which had a horde character on it. This enabled me to actually talk to a lot of the people camping me. Turns out most of the time their reason for camping me was "cause I'm botting"
Anyways keep at it, you'll get there soon enough :)
I just got ganked by two 70's for an hour.
It sucks.
But i have an BIG BIG VASTLY BIG "repay" list. Where everyone who has ganked me for stupid reasons or becuase im a MB'er i plan on getting revenge and instigating the pvp a bit :) haha

yeah we had the same trouble when my brother and I were leveling 4 shamans and a pally. We got jumped (at level 42) by a level 62 rogue. We killed him. He came back with a paladin, we killed them both but they killed 3 of us. As we were rezing they landed a Full group of 70's on us who proceeded to camp us for over an hour.
PvP servers can be rather tough going... thats why Id personally recommend a pve server if your mainly interested in BG's and Arenas.

My Favourite Ganking Story by Tasty
I was quietly minding my own business grinding mobs for a quest (I'm level 63) when all of a sudden a 70 mage swoops down out of the sky with a gleam in his eye. 'Oh boy, four free HK's' he thinks to himself and proceeds to attack me. Myself usually a very gentle person, quickly react (self defense :P) with my IWIN button. Long story short four pyroblasts and he's dead. I have myself a good laugh and ride off into the sunset thinking, the gankers do get their comeupance. It is going to be a good day. Five minutes later I get attacked by four 70's all in the same guild one of them the mage I killed earlier. I managed to take one of them down but of course I lost and all my mages were killed. I was then told by some random that I shouldn't gank people lol. Anyway I kept ressing and killing one/two of them and dieing until eventually I hearthed and quested somewhere else. If I die I'm taking people with me :)

I wonder if there comes a point when repeated ganking officially becomes reportable physical harassment, even on a PvP server.
If the same level 70's are repeatedly tracking you down and ganking your lowbie multibox team, no matter where you go, then they're clearly out to spoil your game. Would Blizzard act on this once it has gone on long enough?

Agreed. I have VanasKos and the list is shared between all my toons for immediate gankage when I see them.

Blizz won't act. I also had a problem with 70s mind-controlling everyone off the boat for over an hour. Blizz sent me a canned email that basically says, "welcome to PVP, there are ways around it. Good luck!"
I saved this email, because I also have a Priest...

Well, I wouldn't expect them to act after an hour of grief, but what about if you're being deliberately targetted for weeks?

Oh god...
This is exactly why I could never level up on a PvP server. Had some RL aquaintances raiding on Spinebreaker who kept bugging me to join but even with a guild full of bodyguards it was extremely frustrating to me haha.
I guess it directly correlates to why I multi-box. I have a set amount of time to play WoW each session due to my lifestyle, family, etc etc.... I refuse to have that time governed by PuG asswads, or gankers.
I like to get shit done. Period. =)

Personally,
I love being ganked. I love being surprised. It allows me to gain experience on how to handle things, and it distracts me from the boring grind. I agree after a few times it can get annoying, ofcourse, but it shouldn't be too hard to avoid the ganker for a while if it goes out of hand. But PvP server all the way for me really. Even if it's for the odd chance of totally pwning the ganker. But even when I fail at that, it's distraction and experience.
But to each their own really. :)

Every report for Gankers will result in "There is a PVP solution to your issue. YOU'RE FUCKED LOL"
The best onse are where the gankers get the favor returned and get
camped by boxers.. I remmember someone from Mag was getting camped and
another boxer came in and wiped them.. ahh.. love it! Having 5
boxers with 25 toons running at you must be a nice sight.. before you
get zapped!! LOL (I gotta check what's the latency on Mag :) join my MB

I enjoy taking a break to do that every now and then. Of course, it's a very rare 70 that actually stays around trying to gank once our 70s throw a beating on 'em.

My 3 level 60s were questing in Hellfire last night being led by my 70 prot pally.
A 70 mage was flying by and turned around after seeing my 3 follows.
He landed 30 yards from me, and then I had this BIG SMILE.
3 Grounding totems, and nuke combo's later, were were around him unhurt, and he was 30%, lol.
He managed to Frost Nova and blink, despite cast sequences of War Stomp surrounding him. :p
We caught up with him Judged Pursuit of Justice, and Chain Frost shocks managed to get him to 1%, where he proceeded to Ice Block at 1%, lmao.
What's he gonna do, surrounded by Grounding Totem, Healing Totems, Searing Totem? Die ofcourse.
His level 70 buddy did not bother to dismount from flying as I got him targeted and got a volley of chain lighting off. :)

Just take your ganking with a smile on your face, one day you will be 70. That's what I did, people use to follow me around and gank me for hours. but now they tend to stear far and wide. I had 15 people come at me a few days ago at the sunwell and I wrecked them bad.

I've seen them take action, but only when it goes FAR FAR FAAAAARRRRR beyond anything described here. As in weeks, tracking down your alts too, and crossing into straight out harassment. If you really feel you have no options, report. They'll most likely say they can't help... but they'll be aware, and if it goes into flat psycho category, then they'll be better able to help you.
Honestly most of the things here are on a level I've run into even when only running one toon, for no apparent reason. I had one rogue follow me for two days whenever I logged on, and after signing on a horde account to ask, there wasn't any reason - not that it stopped him. It's not uncommon for me to run into a jerk that goes beyond the random few ganks every two weeks or so, multi or not.

Can't wait to download that addon! I can finally get rid of my "PvP Dick" list in notepad :D I haven't made it above 50 yet with my accounts, but I noticed that I tend to be hunted down more than others because I multibox. Anytime a skull comes and ganks me, the name is written down, and when I get my 5 man group to 70 the hunt is on and I will have no mercy with them and their corpses X(

Seriously man - roll on Mag! We always look out for our own. Like just last weekend a bunch of asshat allies were stopping Pinotnoir from completing one of the Manaforge quests in Netherstorm. In rolled the Shammy Pain Train (Engy Area 52 Teleport trinket FTW!) and much Pew Pew later and all the allies could do was watch from their flying mounts.
And btw, we need more Aussies on Mag! :P

Hahaha, i was wondering how long it would take you to find some way to QQ about that on the forums. It only took you 2 hours, i'm impressed! I was waiting for you to attack, had my pvp totems down and everything, but you ran away :( I wanted to see if stoneclaw totems taunted your forest of death off me. Anyway, at 70 the que times are almost instant. Don't think i have ever waited more than 1 minute for a bg to pop. And I haven't had a que logging into the server in 3-4 months now. We do need more aussies, Stealthy gets lonely and has to do things like level up 375 engineering on 5 shaman just to have his own fighter squad.

I rarely got ganked when leveling up.
There was however alot of horde killing me in the middle of fights with elites or big pulls.
Alot of the time i could kill the mobs and the horde, but sometimes... I got killed....
And god dammit i get pissed on chicken horde that attack me when fighting mobs :cursing:
They all have a signature "move" they ride past you, or run for that matter. Then circle around you, pretending just to be watching. They can watch several pulls, and then, when your oom, or have a large pull.. They jump in to gank you X(
This was done to me several times by a hunter named "fooza" while i was leveling up.
My "Fooza" kill count @lvl 70 is at the moment 52. Ive killed him several times when he is with other horde, and I only kill him, /smile to the rest of the group, sit back and wait for him to ress again.
Payback is a bitch... So, keep track of the names, and get your revenge at lvl 70

KoS addons ftw :)
as my boxing team is still in their infancy I get ganked alot. not usually by 70 acctually but by a mob of similar level players.. STV was a lot of fun :P me vs 10+ allis at times hehe what does get me tho is that then after say 30mins of some fun they corpsegank me nonstop for hours.. until i snap whip out my lvl 70 and go on a killing spree.. that's my way around it! :P the funniest thing is tho then when I'm killing like crazy i often encounter a group of allis.. of which 4 are on my KoS list and one or two aren't :) They must be so confused when I obliterate 4 of them and then smile and wave byebye to the last ones standing :P
I caused my own gank one time lol..
I was in that first Dranari town just after the starting area, can't remember the name for some reason. Some horde lvl 70s where there killing everything for shits and grins I presume. I thought, that's fine, I'm not flagged for pvp, so I go to turn in my quest where they are, and they are all /boggle /gasp whatever, so I selected the big main guy and did /dance with the group to play along.
A rogue strolled over and was making some gestures to one of my toons, and all the sudden she stopped dancing and whacked him with her mace lol... well, that flagged the whole group and they stomped the shit out of us, and laughed and danced. It was funny, because I looked at that toons screen and said out loud "wtf are you doing?!?! As if it was someone else in my party that screwed up lol.. I'm so used to other people screwing up that it was my initial reaction. My gf said defensively, "Who are you talking to??? " as if I was saying this to her, I pointed at the screen and said "her, she did it! , not you!" Thinking that I was about to be cut off.. lol... she gave me a funny look and walked away. I had to take a moment and think, ok, that was my fault , theres nobody here but you lol... I still don't know what prompted her to whack him with her mace? lol...

Well a pull goes wrong and I end up with a couple adds. Im feverishly repositioning to get the adds in front of me and slam Tab on my main to get my new target. In the rush I either remember to hit my Assist key for my other 2 or I hit the wrong key and as the 3 shadowbolts left my girls two of them streaked off in the wrong direction. Oh shit... Well he got down off his mount and chain feared me until the two who flagged were dead and tried to camped me. Isay tried because having played on PvP servers for many years I always have an alt to play on just these kind of occasions so I just logged for 30 mins.
But it was totally my fault in the first place.

So when the targeted enemy got close, your character was suddenly in melee range and bam!
... In the rush I either remember to hit my Assist key for my other 2 or I hit the wrong key and as the 3 shadowbolts left my girls two of them streaked off in the wrong direction. Oh shit...
I haven't quite figured out what I'm doing wrong in those situations. Its usually a flurry of activity as a result of ads respawning or pat'ing into range unnoticed, but it really sucks when I get more ads and I'm fumbling around trying to get mobs down, and for some reason, one of them decide to send a lighting bolt off to another group not even in the fight and now I have more problems. :D Luckily at least one always seems to survive and since they all can rez now, I haven't had to make any gy runs because of it, fun stuff :D

But it was totally my fault in the first place.I had a similar experience once. Thought I'd experiment with multiboxing on a PvP realm so rolled up a group of three Gnome 'locks. Happily started the first zone and had dinged to about level three when I saw a Troll Warrior. Had a quick look at him and discovered he was only level seven himself so probably hadn't come here to gank. He seemed curious more than anything, just following and watching, I had no problem with him doing this. Suddenly a pull goes wrong, one Shadowbolt to a wolf and two to the Troll.. he understandably runs in, I make all of them fire at him, he runs away, I fire once more and he falls.
Felt really quite nice to get my first HKs at such a low level!
