View Full Version : Being called "cheater" constantly

Hey guys. Iv boxed several other mmo's in the past and have never been called so many names as i am now in Wow. You name it( botter, cheater, sucker, loser-mainly because of paying for the extra accounts ) and the list goes on. Iv recived a few whispers stating" complaint registered" from other players. Its unbelivable! I have to sit back and laugh. Now i can understand if i was being a show off and going nuts in PVP but thats just not the case. I mind my own business and do instance grinding. Im afriad to see whats going to happen once i head to contested ares. hehe. Just curious how other handle this same situation.

well WoW is like... popular, let's call it like that. And remember it is *cough* 12+ *cough*... thats the reason.

Personally I am trying to explain people what is going on actually and have some fun conversation.

I've found about 75% people are cool with boxing (and sometimes want to know more), 20% are bemused and think its a little OTT but the final 5% for some reason get quite irate by the concept. Whether this is a lack of understanding or just a naturally negative persona I'm not sure.

The only thing I do is try and explain what I'm doing but once they cross the line I say may farewells, /ignore and go about my business. I did get quite annoyed the first couple of times but now it's just amusing.

I do have a habit of adding these folks to my friends list, not entirely sure why I do it but I guess its a case of keeping friends close and enemies closer ;-)

These would be the same people in my mind that are upset that people made 'pre-mades' in pvp and those pre-mades had tier 2/2.5/3 gear and worked as a team. Damn it he worked hard for his beast stalker!

Potentially also the same people that are under the thumb of a despotic guild and have little freedom or fun in the game. Being the 12th hunter in a guild waiting for the 12th Dragonstalker chest to drop on the 50th run through BWL. Or running through MC countless times for someone else to get a binding. Oh those were the days and likely those were the 120+ /played days that weren't always fun.

Then he goes to WSG and gets PoM+Pyro'ed x 4 in the face by four Warlord characters with non-sense names.

Well of course someone is cheating.

Um...unless I know them, I ignore everyone. They want attention, that's why they messaging you. I treat my main similiar to my alt boxes, as if I have time to read 5 different screens of messages.

Just tell them to either appeal you for cheating or stop sending tells as they are harassing you. If they continue, then appeal them for verbal harassment :)

i select them, /assist, /point and /giggle

then i'd ask if they have ever heard of multi-boxing. they'd usually say no. i'd drop them the dual-boxing.com link and tell them to check it out (they'll find keyclone on their own with very little reading)

i also like it when one of them says something, and he's standing to my left. i then spin all the girls to look at him, target/assist and then cast something on them... of course it'd only be a blessing spell due to wow rules... but on other games, they'd be dead. :)

usually the synchronized turn creeps them out (hehehe)

I enjoy "ni hao" replies and other phrases that make me appear a chinese goldfarmer because it ticks them off even more.

In fact, I should be getting some complaints and reports right about.. now. I ganked a pair of level ?? rogues around thirty minutes ago and I have no doubt that they have something against a pair of level 42s killing them with such ease, see.

I already have a macro that says:

I agree about wow's player base. I've given at least 15 mmos a go and wow's simply awful. It is most people's first mmo and it shows. This is why Shadowbane was the best - if you were a dick, i'd one-man-gank-squad your levelling groups endlessly then i'd camp your city and burn it down  Sadly the reprocussions for a complete and total lack of manners or brains in wow are zero, especially on PvE servers. You can't even swear at people.

I have to say it gets a lot better in outland. Mostly, you are chain questing and you are high level. It would take a real muppet to think you got to 60+ and havent been banned because nobody reported you or that bots quest. Having a guild name - I suggest Mutliboxing - usually saves you from being thought of as a powerleveller.

Also, don't run around with dnd/afk tags on any of your chars whilst leveling. That's a chinese powerleveller signature move.

As far as replies go, sarcasm works wonders for people who threaten you. Some people are just curious and I happily chat to them for a few lines. I find having a nice chat with somebody from a guild usually means I don't have to deal with that guild again as they talk about it on guild chat.

Finally, remember that you are paying for multiple subscriptions. If anything, it gives you even more of a right to not be harassed :)

oh i miss the glory days of shadowbane... for this exact reason

going out to hunt for the cry of the carebear in global was ... just... awesome !!!

i was 10-boxing a mage assassin group... i'd blow things up in a blink... oh you shoulda heard them squeal. i was so successful at it, wolf pack/stray bullet changed the game. i could find a way around it, but nah...

Most popular ones I get:

"..."
"WTF"
"that is the coolest thing I've ever seen"
"Why are there 4 of you that look identical?"
"How come all of you have the same gear?"
"HAX. Nobody could possibly coordinate 4 accounts that perfectly."
"I'm so depressed after seeing your kill speed."

I used to reply with the most viscerally caustic thing I could think of. But after the first few weeks I decided I would simply assume people were just misinformed. I wasn't correct, but I was close: most folks in WoW simply lack decent communication skills. Obviously, few people have the wherewithal to conceive of doing this, let along executing it successfully. When talking to people, most actually come around and are nice, or even offer to tank/CC/heal for me if I need it. ;)

In short, the few real pricks will remain that way no matter what. The rest are uninformed, not creative thinkers, poor communicators or some mix of all three.

Now, on a much more interesting note, I have 4-boxed groups of dwarfs, night elves, humans, gnomes and undead. By FAR the most reviled have been the night elves. By FAR the most loved were my 4 gnome mages, Eenie, Meenie, Minie and Mow. ;) An interesting set of social assumptions people make, even in a game where these are _avatars_! /boggle

the ones i really like are the ones that come up, get all pissy, and start saying "you have no skill... and need to multi-box"

i always found this statement very telling. i would respond :

"you know this is a computer game, right?"
"uh huh"
"and i agree this is skill based... but what do you think that skill is based on?"
"umm..."
"you think pounding keys is skill? sort of dex based?"
"dex.. yes"
"sorry no. this is a computer game.. the skill here is int based... and since i wrote this program...i win"

Admittedly I don't give the same visceral impact only having two at a time, but anyone who behaves like they want to know what I'm doing I tell them. Everyone else gets ignored (ie me just ignoring them not /ignore).

And yes I've been reported. With two, hate to think how many times you x5+ will have been. :D

I'd like to add a little observation to this. Have you guys noticed how its ALWAYS the people from little crappy non raiding guilds or unguilded people who threaten/do report you?

From the people that have been real tossers thus far, not a single one was from a 25-man raiding guild. They have all been from either fool's guilds, guild jumpers, unguilded or from few-man outfits.

Not saying there wont be exceptions but there clearly does seem to be a direct link between (ingame?) intelligence and both attitude and ability to get whats happening.

What puzzles me the most is how people can even think you are a bot. You run quests, you reply, you dont run around one path, you dont cast the same identical spell sequences and you party... none of these people would know an actual bot when they saw one.

Ignorance is bliss :)

And it shows up in all forms, from being unguilded, empty threats, and basically what aurelie said in the post aboce :)

I was told today that anything more than 2 boxing is impossible and that at level 10 I would give up and realize I wasted my money on accounts and hardware because it's impossible to control 5 characters at once.

I actually had a 15 minute conversation with this guy even. He just sounded so ignorant so I didn't mind at all, and I just kept answering his questions, directed him here.

I've had a lot of positive responses so far, though. Seems like a lot of people know and understand what we do. There's still a few who don't get it, most of them give one-liners like: wtf is this?

But mostly I just get followed around, especially when I switch formations so you can see all the characters at once, or in a line or whatever.

I'm boxing on one of the big servers, zul'jin. It's a mixed bagged, some people call me all sorts of names and say they are reporting me. It's been over a week since I started boxing, no gms contacted me yet.

Most people are very nice, they just are interested and I try to explain best I can. I usually just send them here for info.

Some people can't get over the money factor. Why is it anyone business how I spend my money anyways?

I definitely finding it hard to get use to the extra attention. Kinda like being a celebrity, people stop me so they can take screen shots. haha

none of these people would know an actual bot when they saw one.

Often they get upset that someone is running a low level toon through and instance. They give the same grief, WTF are you doing? And it eventually ends up with some racial epitaph about being Chinese and gold farming.

I just report them, mention how I do not wish my children to be bothered by racial epitaphs, and move on.

I wonder if this is the same on EU servers, it truly wouldn't surprise me if it was a US thing.

I've been multiboxing since Diablo 2. (Well, wouldn't really call it true multiboxing. But I did run 3 computers/accounts at once.)

And I still get a smile on my face when I run past someone and they stop, turn around, and start running after me.

I've noticed that people fall into several categories.

You have the "OMG HAXOR REPORTED" types that I immediately put on ignore. Don't even bother talking to these people, it leads nowhere.

You have the "What a waste of money, lamer" types. These types usually just say something about money spent and leave. I don't bother explaining to these guys that not everyone has a five-buck-an-hour job.

You have the "Hey that's cool." types. The majority of people fall here. They might say something, or they might just turn, look, and then continue on their way. It's the same reaction most people take to seeing something different.

And then you have the fanbois. These guys send endless questions, ask you to help them, and want you to perform tricks. If I'm in a good mood, I'll humor them for a minute or two. I'm so glad I found this site, because I now point them all here and tell them all their questions will be answered.

So I decided to roll on a less popular realm, zul'jin was a BAD idea, I can't go anywhere without getting harassed.

I'm afraid I may get banned as I'm doing this all on one pc using ahk, I probably could technically get banned using 3rd party software no?

Well,
walking into Shat for the first time was pretty funny, people were talking in general chat as if they assumed i couldn't read that. Things I have learned about myself during that occasion:

* I am from china and I will be selling my chars as soon as they are lvl 70
* I was able to level my toons from 20 to 61 in 2 days (Someone said he saw me the day before and I was level 20, of course this was picked up by a few people and is now regarded as the truth; i wish i could really do that)

Yesterday someone asked me politely and so i explained that i have 5 computers and 5 accounts. He simply said he didnt believe me. I directed him to this site so he can see the pictures on the front page but he didn't want to use the link.

Anyways, the best way to handle this imho is to explain to people to approach you in a friendly manner and basically ignore the rest.

I hope that's irony, but it's hard to tell in forums, so I'll go ahead and post this...

He did not level from 20 to 60 in 2 days, any more than he intended to sell his characters at level 70.

If you read the post properly, that's quite clear. It was a random accusation from a nobody, passed in General chat.

Indeed I am neither from china nor did i level my toons in 2 days.

It was just what people expected from me in general chat simply because I was standing with 5 chars in Shat with similar sounding names and the same guild tab.

Quite funny but actually I try to avoid these occasions - I am always happy when I can take my toons to an instance and mind my own business without disturbing or being disturbed.

I'm starting to become very aggravated by how often I get harassed. My ignore list is very huge, I hope there is no limit on this list.

Even if someone is just interested in more info, I just get so tired of responding. Also people bugging me to jump, dance, etc. I just want to ignore everyone now. Can't I just play in peace?!

I just write tickets and make an appealing gesture against racial slurs and vulgarities to the GM. If your in a guild, having one or more of them come there and open a ticket helps.

People with very small lives love to waste time making themselves big, but the sudden warning loss of a their precious wow account is a sobering moment. If they laugh it off and continue, they are likely to loose it. Any physical threat made and you can just insist that the GM take action pretty much. Keep escalating the ticket until the dude is no longer in your ignore list.

Works for me, not that I get off on doing it or something. I just have some well written cut and paste messages for tickets and its second nature to me.

Again, the GM doesn't want to get into a he said she said. What your really looking for are vulgarity on the order of racial/ethnic slurs or physical threats to you the player.

Out of interest... do you write one ticket from each of the offended characters? Muahahaha.... ;)

I feel oddly embarassed by boxing at times, although I know there's no rationalisation for that feeling, and am also happy to hide myself away in instances. I doubt I'd have the "front" to box on a PvP server, unfortunately.

Make half alliance characters, half horde. If an alliance is a pain, kill him with horde. If a horde is a pain, kill him with alliance.

It is truly wonderful when they jump in thinking you'll help kill the enemy, when they don't know you are the enemy.

Don't forget that to some of people that multi boxing will seem very unfair, just as unfair as botting

Your five characters act in perfect synchronisation with no delay - no team of five real people could manage that

Your five characters mean that you, as one person, can do something that another single person cannot do - none of these guys can solo an insatnce the way you can with a multi box setup

Your also spending a lot more money on the game, and the hardware/software setup, than most people ever will - for someone without the money/time to spend the situation is highly unfair

All these things are 'unfair' so don't expect joe public to heartily endorse the situation

In fact, if Blizzard change their policy on multi boxing, all of us could be looking at getting banned, so gettting overconfident can be dangerous

After what I learned from running into Orgrimmar yesterday I'd say keeping a low profile and being polite even though a lot of people are retarded and way too young and "leet" to understand is the way to go.

I even had people who didn't understand what I was doing running inside Orgrimmar with names similar to mine. When someone started the "OMG HES HAXING" I either just ignored it or forwarded them here.
Wrote ni hao with all four and lets just say I didn't quite think that through^^

Not as strange as those who use "pimp" as an offensive term - at least the ones going on about "no life" got a point - but still strange.
