So I’ve been trying to find a definitive answer on this, but so far my Google searches haven’t come up with much. I’m curious if anyone has noticed this while farming old raids. I ran a team through Trial of the Crusader recently and got TWO of the pet from the last boss. I’m assuming this means that pets are on a separate loot table per character in Legacy raids. Unfortunately I have not been able to duplicate this in subsequent raids and am now wondering if maybe it was a fluke. With mounts being much more rare than pets, the likelihood of proving this theory with mounts will be nearly impossible. However if it is indeed true, it’s great for us boxers who like to farm for pets and mounts. Does anyone else have any insights into this?

The pets have a low droprate.
Even if you ran with max amount of characters, you could get zero.

If you plan to get them to try resell, i would look up a tsm sniper / import on those and take a look on multiple realms. If a lot cheaper on one, buy it, learn it, then log on a character on a different realm, cage that pet and try sell it on that ah for a profit.

Usually new players have little to no clue on what stuff is worth, so they just list pets and stuff cheap.

Tip: always have atleast 1 account running a custom tsn sniper while you multibox etc. If you happen to have a older laptop you can run it on, thats perfect. Free gold essensually. You can even sometime score millions if a poor person wrongly listed a tcg mount at the wrong price etc :)

Here you can f.ex see how the prices are on one of the most populated realm in the eu. More people...usually cheaper... so maybe buy here...and try resell on lowpop realm.. https://theunderminejournal.com/#eu/draenor/category/battlepets

If you have two accounts open, you can use the tradeskillmaster application r400 with both realmprices open and available, and basically compare prices close to realtime, like within the 30 min. If you are carefull and note the usual prices, its like you can print gold. Usually the more rare pets and tcg pets will resell. Only pick up any others if you got a good bargain on another realm.

You can do this with most items in the game.. like f.ex you can learn all you can about a single item, like a herb. One that is popular. Then set a max price you are willing to pay. Add your settings to a tsm sniper. Then buy and resell as people list the herb cheap.

Just start with very few items and increase as you learn how to use it. As you can imagine, over time you could be mastering and tracking a loooot of items.

a.) If you are less than 11 levels above the level of the dungeon/raid then personal loot rules are in effect.
b.) If you are 11 or more levels above the level of the dungeon/raid then Legacy loot rules are in effect.

If personal loot is in effect then there is a chance (albeit very small) that everyone could get a pet, in legacy loot I don't think you'd get more than one. If you are running a legion raid thats still personal loot not considered legacy.

Perhaps I wasnt clear in my original post, but this was never about the economics of pet farming or what makes you eligible for Legacy Loot, I know all that. Ultimately, I'm just trying to find a definitive answer (which I still dont have) as to whether or not if I take a team of characters into an old raid with Legacy Loot active, do they all have an individual chance to loot a pet or mount. Basically, when I'm trying to get a rare mount, is it better to just take 5 characters individually, or do I get the same chance to loot it if I take all 5 in as a group.

Ok, so I did some more testing of my theory, and I looted 3x Dusty Clutch of Eggs from Maexxna in Naxx. So the theory definitely holds for Pets. Now proving it with mounts is going to be more difficult.

I've always wondered this as well. Is it better to take 1 team of 5 or 5 teams of 1?

As I understand it Legacy Loot mode is just Personal Loot with a "fake" full group. Legacy Loot mode functions the same way Personal Loot does when you bring a full group for the instance in question.

I'm glad you are reporting this because I was wondering the same thing about the pets/mounts as well. Didn't know if they were adding the pets/mounts to the overall loot table (as in the Mythic raid boss mounts when current, where only 1 can drop per kill) or using push personal loot ala the MoP world bosses where mounts are on an entirely separate, individual roll. Looks like each character gets their own separate roll and it's best to bring full teams if farming pets/mounts.

Has anyone actually gotten an official answer on this ? I am also interested. I have now killed Blackhand 100 times with a team of 5 so that would make 500 attempts on getting the mount ... witch is REALLY REALLY unlucky :). Getting close to Pandaria World Boss figures.

So i talked to a gm yesterday regarding this, he told me that if you run with a group/team when multiboxing or i general. Lets say 5 chars like in my case. You only get one attempt so it would be a higher chance to get the mount running the raid/dungeon individually. Never took any screens shots of this chat with him but thats what he told me.

If i recall they only changed it back a few weeks ago: before that you had to run with 20 characters before a mythic only mount was even eligable to drop. So it should be able to drop again now.. even if you run in solo.

Dungeons and Raids

Raid group size no longer affects the drop rates of Mythic-only mounts
