View Full Version : Loot BOP with alt after lvl 70 kills it (same account)
I have it easy atm gearing up my alt with my old main (lvl 70 hunter) but that leaves the other warlock behind in gear (and exp from the instance run, though thats not too big of an issue) I'm looking for a way to switch the toons out where the warlock on the hunters account can loot the BOP from the kill i make with the hunter / warlock that are grouped.
I was just wondering if anybody knows a good way to achieve this.
One way I have been told how to do it is...
1. Group both warlocks together. (War1 and War2 for short)
2. Run both warlocks into instance.
3. Force LD on War2 and log in Hunter70
4. Invite Hunter70 to group
5. Kill like normal until boss fight.
6. With mob/boss at low health Force LD on hunter
7. Log in War2 and finish kill
8. Loot and repeat.
I have read that doing something like this would work, but have not tried it yet. Also i was wondering if anybody else knew of another way to do it.
(I know i could get a friend to run me threw an instance, or pay / offer to run their alt threw an instance in return, i'm just try to see what all options are)

Transfer warlock off hunter account... otherwise you're sol.

Your running the instance with your two guys and then replacing one guy with a high level to do the heavy lifting on boss encounters?
I would see how much time this swapping takes. Obviously you hunter is speedy and stealthy to run through the instance to catch up to where your duo was. Looking at your xp per hour (including the time to reset the instance) should likely decide these things.
I found that if I run two guys through library and I couldn't manage the last pulls or the boss, swapping out like you describe and getting a 60 and then leaving (always hard to leave after all that time) took longer and wasn't worth just running out and resetting and returning.
If I really wanted the gear or needed to do a quest, I would just roll through with the 60 from the start and get business done.

Not possible with the exception of encounters where the loot comes from an object - think Majordomo or Chess in Karazhan. Or the relic that drops from the named undead guy in Andorhol (name escapes me at the moment). Otherwise, only the people present at the kill can loot the corpse.

I believe they changed Chess in Karazhan and also the Chest in Ramparts, so if you aren't there, you can't lewt. If you noticed rolling lewt off regular chests after someoen opens it in group. I could be wrong, wonder if it's possible in free for alls.

I know you can still loot from standard boxes after someone else has opened them - on my Rogue I recently sold a junkbox with a BoP jewelcrafting recipe in it, and I routinely leave mana pots in locked chests for the mana-using classes.
I am pretty sure you can loot the Ramparts end box even if you are not there for the kill but this may have been changed recently. I'd like to know for sure though. :)

From experience you cannot loot mobs/kills that were killed before you were there, I tried this every which way in DM when trying to get the good loot off one of the bosses onto my lowbie rogue, in the days before I picked up my 2nd account. (Running with a friends priest)
the thing most are mentioning is "After the kill"
What i'm looking to do is swap mid fight. (or very very close to the end of the fight.) So, once the mob dies, the other toon on the same account will be there to "finish the boss off" You can't log out like normal, but you can force yourself to LD. So basicly your toon will be standing there while the boss keeps attacking them.
Example: Last night i tested the aggro thing out.. I took the last guy down in SFK to 10% and stopped attacking, then let my warlock with me burn all of his mana on him, and the warlock never pulled aggro. The warlock isn't strong enough to kill him yet, but soon should be... once he is strong enough to finish the last 10% of the fight, i'll try this trick on a boss.. ill try it on a lower level fight before hand though first.
(Final boss was a lvl 27 elite and my warlock at the time was lvl 20 - resisted most spells)
The only thing I can think of that will not allow this to happen, is if Blizzard:
1) Makes it so people can not join a group in the middle of a fight.
- I'm not 100% sure.. but I think you can join a group in the middle of a fight.
2) Makes it where you have to do a % of the damage in the fight to be able to loot.
- I know this isn't true because my alt does no damage in the group yet still gets to loot. (on a Boss fight this might be differant)
3) Makes it where you have to be there for a % of the time the fight last to be able to loot.
- I'm not sure on this one, but I know there is a distance amount where you can't loot after a kill.
4) After "X" amount of time gone from a LD you are kicked from an instance / group
- Not sure on this one
Again.. im not looking to kill something then loot it, but take the mob down to about 1% - 10% so my lower characters can kill it easy (and with no "real" tank)

My new mains are Lowbies :)
My old main is lvl 70 hunter... and now i'm playing 2 warlocks.
Ziie: Undead Warlock lvl 19
Xiie: Undead Warlock lvl 21
I can use my hunter to get "the best" for one (Xiie), but I have to do it the old school way with the other (Ziie). I'm just looking to keep them the same (look / gear / level).
* They where the same level, but Xiie has leveled from 19 to 21 following my hunter (lvl 70) around the SFK instance while he kills stuff.
*But.. yes, if this could work.. that would mean you could make a very nice twink, though that isn't the goal.

Loot mechanic including LD as I know it from over 2 years of raiding and handling loot permissions...
Player 1
Player 2/3 (Same account)
Player 1 & 2 engage boss, 3 is in group already and in position.
Player 2 does majority DPS and at 5% logs out via Alt-F4
Player 3 logs in and tags boss.
Boss dies.
Players 1 & 3 have loot rights, Player 2 may have loot rights IF he's still "online" when the boss dies, but thats a pretty small window.
