Woohoo, so I finally got some time to try out multiboxing and..
Damn...
It's 5 times as addicting as one account.

I've been 2boxing a bit a month or 3 ago with 2 shammies and decided to start a 5box.

It's been mainly set up as PvE box,
but with a bit of rolechanging it might be viable in PvP,
but we'll try that once I'm getting more used to it .

Current character setup: Palladin, Shaman, Druid, Mage, Priest
Character names: Tankdem, Shocdem, Nukedem, Killdem, Healdem

Palladin as my main character (tankadin in PvE, Healadin in PvP)
The rest is dps, untill I start instancing and.. well.. the names explain it all .

I'm still a bit of a newb and spend a lot of time on configuring so I only just dinged to 12 (13 on the shammy, totem quests ftw)

I'm still running them all 5 from only 1 computer, P4 3.0 8|
5 different installs with NTFS junctions to the same data folder (It seemed to boost my loading time a bit, thanks for the suggestion on this board)
Unless things get busy i'm having some playable fps on them,
but going to a city usually makes me split up in 2's and 3's just to be able to see any new frames.

My second computer has been installed to transfer 2 accounts to,
but somehow my main computer isn't connecting with synergy nor keyclone,
so a fresh install on it is what i'll try tonight.

So far the most annoying part about dual boxing is: Fanboys.
Especially the "Following you around everywhere, non-stop questioning, and "OMGOMGOMG, do this/that"-type.
I don't mind speaking to people, answering questions and even performing a bit,
but when you tell them you're busy with configuring your macros,
they just don't get it something like this takes time to decently set this up.

I pity the nub who ever tries to get a 5box from ebay without any experience.

This Forum has been a great help to many of my startup problems(or doubts)
Thanks..
A lot..
(and I really mean it)

(and NO, you don't have to create a new thread for most questions,
in fact, this is my 2nd post here ever and if I can trust the reactions on my realm I'm getting quite good at it)

Wow, 5 different classes? Good luck and a lot of fun :)

I cannot even imagine a macro-layout for 5 different classes :)

Well,
What can I say,
I like challenges

And about the macro layout..
It's been easy when all dps toons had only 1 offensive spell, but now that they're starting to get more it really starts to become more interesting.

but tbh..
Most dpsclasses have one/two major dps spells, so the damage won't be a problem.
My main has the numpad as it's action bar, all alts are currently hotkeyed with "1" - "="
I still have to design a way to use the G15 buttons tho..
I shouldn't be waiting to long with that since
it might mess up any keybinds I currently have(or which will pop up soon)

Howdy aNiMal and welcome to the forums!

i must say, you went for the whole enchilada on your first bite. with each new class, complexity increases... having all 5 different, well... max complexity.

a thought... maybe this will help. start looking into keymaps. keymaps were designed to allow you to remap keys to functions (which i call hotstrings). so you might have 'opening.salvo' as a function... and specify a different key for each class (not specifying a key will ignore the key for that clone). this would enable you to layout the action bars as you normally would on each class, you just have to use a keymap for each. if you want more info, please feel free to drop me a note.

make sure to post pics and maybe a vid or 2... along with specs on your solution that works best for you :D

Right now I don't really see the added value of keymaps,
but i'll read up about it some more while my system is reinstalling and decide after.

Screenies have been made,
it's just that they're at my home computer and I can't boot them from work (yet).

Videos is something I tried on my 2-box but as soon as I started recording both my wow's crashed.
I expect it had no clue which screen to capture but I didn't look further into it since my system resources were limited enough already.

so many things to research, so little time ^^

I added one computer to my setup,
performance went from [avoid cities at all costs] to [try to avoid the centre of the city in peak hours]

Current setup:
Main computer: P4 3.0Ghz 1Gb Ram
20" CRT + 19" TFT in 2560x1024
Runs 3 x WoW
keyclone maxbkfps 10 maxfps 30

Secondary puter: P4 2.4 768Mb Ram
2x 15" TFT in 2048x768
Runs 2 x WoW
keyclone maxbkfps 10 maxfps 15

I only loose a slave in a city once in a while on the main computer.

Keeping old hardware around the house is great for these kind of projects :D
I still got 2 x 15" lying in a corner doing nothing and we're about to replace the 2.4 systems at work,
so I'll probably add another "Secondary puter" and have my main computer just for my main and anything else I want to run it.

I've stumbled on a few problems,
- I keep having issues with button combinations being pressed when I don't want to press them (I probably should whitelist in stead of blacklist :D)
- Altho keymapping is kinda straightforward I keep messing it up with the 5
So this project has been halted,
Babysteps ... :D

I've ripped open a can of mages to get a better feeling for mapping my keys.
Maybe I'll just keep going on them so I can add them to any of my higher level characters on that realm.
