Been a while, just returned after a nearly 3 year hiatus and wow, things have changed. Currently looking to prep for BFA and been reading through some of the previous talk on professions and it seems the consensus is that for multi, gathering is best, and maybe engi for Loot-a-rang convenience. I'm wanting to take a more engaged stab at gold making next xpac though and have crafting professions as well. I was thinking, and this is where I am currently stuck, that my main team, likely at this point 5 DKs, switch from being dual gathers to a combination of the crafting professions. I believe I want 2 scribes, 2 tailors, 2 alchs etc. Now the reason I'd have this on my main team would be because I noticed that some of the elite recipes are tied to reps and I'd be able to stomach rep grinding on 1 team but probably not another. That'd leave my second, shamans or druids, to pick up the gathering professions, not have to grind rep, and feed my mains.

What do you all think? i currently have 600 gathering on my dks already and 600 alch mixed with 600 herb on a few and 600 inscpri on a few on my shamans. I hate throwing those professions out but it seems really easy to get to 700-800 at this moment.

I will be dropping the gathering professions on my toons, I don't think Blizzard wants you to have an army of alts for professions. With a lot of the crafting professions requiring soulbound mats you will need to play the toons.

Gathering only makes tons of gold early in the expansion, even with 10-boxing and shared nodes I was still making very little selling ore. One world quest makes enough gold to buy a stack in the AH.

In legion I was making a ton of gold with gathering! The first few months anyhow. I think its need to have a least one set of toons a gathering of herbing and mining set

In legion I only sold the mats and made flask, this time around Ill be crafting more gear wise,, The only problem is playing on a low pop server >.<

Like John said, the soulbound mats are a pain and to get some mats from mythics and raids is going to be another pain..

I thought about having 5 scirbes and 5 alchemist. The new DMF trinket with be BIS for the first 4 months. The only reason to get 5 scribes is for mass milling. The alchemist can transmute one mat per day for the scirbes which might become very important

John, do you attribute part of your ability to drop those professions due to the cash cow the last 2 expansion have been with garrisons and order halls? I'm not sitting on a lot of gold right now so I cant see myself being able to afford , at least at the moment, buying mats off the AH and feeding my professions. But you do make a good point about the WQ's and the income you can get from that.

Kojiiko, Yeah I think that all is a good idea. I might make my druids my gathers and make the shamans the alch inscrip. The darkmoon cards are usually a daily cd right? That would be pretty nice for pumping out decks having 5 cds. I wish I could test more of the professions on the PTR before 8.0 drops but there doesnt seem to be much there.

Update, I checked ptr and there is more on there. I am failing to see what daily cd youre talking about for alchemist Kojiiko.

Also, it seems every crafting profession in BFA, crafts follower items for your followers that makes them return with X resource to help your X profession like Blacksmithing has equipped a follower item to sometimes return with ore. Now I see we can have like 30 followers, not sure if 30 at a time but the limit is shown as 30.

tbh i never done inscriptions before, but I heard u have to go to the Darkmoon Faire to get them,, im not really sure

No idea.. I know that u can make the random cards with or the milling u done, its all about the rng... what card u get...

The alchemist for the Expulsom (http://bfa.wowhead.com/item=152668) which is need for crafting materials thats a transmute from Alchemist (transmute are a daily cd) then that will help u in crafting....
I dont want to be grinding fucking dungeons to get them, thats for sure

Taken from wow reddit

Hi everyone,
TLDR; can we get expulsom by destroying non-armor craftables (glyphs, potions, etc) with the scrapper? If not, is there any other way of getting expulsom?
My main is a scribe and herbalist and I'm trying to get my head around some potential avenues to make money. Previously, Darkmoon card trinkets have been pretty lucrative for a good portion of an expansion. But in BFA, they seem to also require expulsom, a material only acquirable by scrapping gear. For professions like alchemy and inscription, we don't really craft any "gear". For anyone with access to the beta, are we able to break down things using the scrapper like glyphs and potions (just like obliterating) for a chance at expulsom? Or are we limited to armor/weapons? If so, is there any other way of farming expulsom?

Yes, I actually think it’s going to be more profitable to scrap everything rather than D/E. Honestly, you get a lot of stuff besides herbs. So unless you’re doing alch /herb. You could very well do double crafting and have enough mats to level it.Also you can scrap any gear (drops, quest rewards), not just crafted one

I watch this video this morning https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8jDdcn6K28&t=158s just about followers that bring back mats for u
