View Full Version : 7.3.5 leveling dungeons a bit too rough

10-60 I mixed in dungeons with questing. It wasn't too bad.
My team is 5 druids and full heirloom with the other pieces typically current via a quest reward.
Hit Wrath/Burning Crusade 60-80, wow this stuff actually somewhat hurts! None the less I was able to do every dungeon at least once, and I will say it was sort of fun the first time through because there was a degree of skill involved that wasn't there in the past.
I'm at MoP/Cata and... it's beyond what a "normal" dungeon should be. Currently lvl 88 and have spent most of it questing.
I feel like my combo is strong for PvE and I can handle mechanics appropriately. Less than 6 months ago I was doing Mythic +10 in ilvl 905 gear.., but this. This is at the same tier difficulty, with no real option to change it.
My Bear tank was getting 2 shot by mini bosses.
I was able to complete Temple of the Jade Serpent and Mogushan Palace, but as I've gotten higher in the 80's something weird has happened. Each level it gets increasingly worse, where I just left multiple other places. Questing is faster, and if it gives me this much trouble in a coordinated group I can't even imagine what new players or those without heirlooms have to deal with.
They must notice a downtick in players doing these dungeons, or at the very least if they could track abandoned rate.

I think they are trying to make the fastest leveling path be questing, then run dungeons once for the quests, then back to questing.
If people run the dungeons once then quit its probably a good sign to the devs.

Trial of the Champion - The Black Knight - way too much damage
Auchenai Crypts - Shirrak the Dead Watcher - pretty sure the first boss is not killable with this scaling he has way too much health unless you go 1-2 melee dps as 3 caster dps I cannot see this fight being doable.
I used 3 range caster dps, Resto druid, prot warrior
Not as far as you yet, but I know some of this scaling has caused issues and last January blizzard did fix some of it.

Questing is abysmally slow now as well. The pendulum has swung way too far in the other direction. It's not fun or challenging it's just a monotonous grind... through 10+ year old content. Having 2-3 buttons in your "rotation" until level 60+ and in many cases not even getting a silence or defensive skill until your 40s or later makes for very tedious, very unenjoyable dungeoning.

trust me you dont want to face that guy on retail tbc with a caster team even on decent lvl 70 gear

There was already a discussion about this in a prior thread (https://www.dual-boxing.com/threads/54256-Leveling-in-7-3-5) about how terrible leveling feels after 7.3.5, but, yeah... You couldn't pay me to play through Cata dungeons—they're just so unforgiving for the simple task of leveling through them, which makes them unrewarding and not, at all, worth visiting. It'll be interesting to see how everything works after they do the item level squish in two months.

Not impossible, but certainly way over-tuned and ridiculous.

Well I finally made it to Legion! Basically where it should be for tuning. Although I still can't figure out if my team is under performing or not.
First the good news, WoD was still a bit rough but was actually doable. Questing was extremely fast vs doing the dungeon grinds. I don't have flying but doing the quests mixed in with the missions on the map for the massive exp was great. Gorgond I was able to do 95-99 in about 2 hours ~ it felt like.
Legion is definitely the bread and butter, the difficulty felt right. The bosses do seem to take a little longer to kill on normal mode but I think they semi buffed it if I recall or it could be that my druid team isn't at maximum potential.
80-90 though... something definitely wrong in that department. Super pass.
We'll see how this team pans out. The druids have so many flavor items for less annoyance outside of combat that it'll be hard to give them up if they don't work. Mainly travel with instant switching forms.

I loved leveling my druid team back when WotLK was the current expansion. Since then, i have not been able to keep them for anything other than being my master gatherers. I would love to main the whole team for the reasons you mention. I hope they are better in BFA.

Follow up on this, I ended up switching back to 4x Hunter/1x Shaman and leveled them up from scratch on Alliance side. I was able to do a Mythic Maw of Souls in ilvl 840 or less for the entire team and it was much smoother/easier than the druid team. I'm really happy I switched but wish the druids did better. I did the same dungeon with the druids as a comparison in ilvl 890 gear and it still felt like a struggle.
The one key difference would be my AP was maxed out on the hunters, while the druids it was max except for full concordance.
I don't think that was enough to push the scales.
