Anyone else following this game (https://pantheonmmo.com/)? Its basically EQ1 updated to modern tech. Keeping the classic EQ style of combat and leveling. The reason I'm posting this here is because i was watching a stream of Jim Lee playing pre-alpha with the Devs. They talk about "two boxing". So although it wants players to group.. it seems as if they are suggesting ( by the conversation going on in the stream ) That boxing will be allowed.. to what extent, i do not know.

go to 1:32 in the video for the short conversation about two boxing.

I've not been following it religiously, but I've been sorta keeping an eye out.

Direct from their FAQ:

10.4 Will multi-boxing be allowed in Pantheon?
Our reaction to multi-boxing is to try something first before we even entertain the idea of artificially restricting it. We want to make combat, especially mid and higher level combat, so tactically intense, with so much going on, so much to do, so much to counter, so many companions to keep alive and the timing of many abilities crucial, that multi-boxing is extremely difficult if not impossible and likely far inferior to having an actual real person in your group.

From the looks of a quick Google search, it's actually been discussed quite a bit on both reddit and their official forums. Whether or not they're going to allow software replication is not something I saw mentioned by a dev/team member during my quick search.

I had read some of that before. I just thought hearing Brad McQuaid saying he was going to start a ranger or paladin, then said "probably both? two box right?" So I'm sure there will be plenty of content that is boxable. I'm also sure some skilled boxers will take that "harder content" as a challenge. I personally plan to just two box for exploring and grinding etc. I look forward to exploring the harder content in real groups.

13.7 Will players have an /assist command?

Yes.

Half way there.

There seems to be a ton of interaction between classes with various buffs and skills that augment each other. Should be interesting to box.

Game reminds me a lot of early DAoC which was amazing. Definitely one to keep an eye on.

I've been casually keeping an eye on this game and it seemed so promising... However, as of right now it appears they will not allow multiboxing due to community concerns.

This is from their October 2019 developer round table Q&A:
https://youtu.be/ccJw9KwzVy4?t=525

TL;DR unless they happen to make realms that are specifically multiboxing friendly (which of course will never happen because why on earth would they bother to make servers the general player base would avoid) it will be a no-go for us. Shame really.

I feel you. I will still play the game though. But i have a feeling that they will soften their stance on boxing..Brad multiboxes and so does some of the other devs on the team. I think making a hard "NO" stance is stupid business wise. I guess if allowing it keeps more people away then the money generated from players owning 2 or more accounts? i dont think the number of players that quit because of multiboxing is that significant.. It might annoy or anger them, but how many quit because of it?

I don't know the role(s) that either of the two voices from the audio stream play at the company, but even at the end of the two statements, the Australian guy said, "But, again, no hard stance [against multiboxing]. We can have a look at it through testing and see what happens, and then make our mind up as we go forward."

So, it sounds like there's still no hard stance against it, at least, for now.

I'm just curious what type of feedback they're looking for during the alpha and beta phases because, normally, people aren't multiboxing in alphas or betas due to either restricted access, or the fact that the game is so full of people who are all clueless and need to rely on each other, that it's completely unnecessary during that period, to multibox. Only after the game has become familiar to those who play it and want an additional challenge, do people, in my opinion, look to give multiboxing a try.

I'm still interested in the game, but I've no idea where it's at as I've not been following it.

One is the community & web manager and the person giving that statement is the creative director. I did feel like there was a slight hint of the door being left open just ever so slightly, but at this point I would not be willing to purchase any copies without getting direct confirmation. Wait and see I suppose, but I am less than hopeful given the change.

I believe the current stance right now is, to have MB servers, and non-boxing servers IF there seems to be demand for multiboxing.

The "boxing" servers will also have buff bot/heal bot type characters falling under their umbrella. Buff bot/heal bot don't actually refer to bots for those who might not know. It refers to people who play the game with a second character to buff and heal their character while leveling so that they can do content while solo more efficiently. It's something that was very common in older MMOs like EQ and DAOC.

So people who want to do that will have to play on boxer servers, whether or not they are really multiboxing the way it has evolved. Which is good, more demand for boxing servers means more likely we will get a boxing servers.

Do you happen to have a source on this?

While I'd be delighted that there would be some way for us to try this game out, I find it odd that a company would specifically set up servers for this purpose alone. I get that there could be an incentive to do so, if there is enough interest, but drumming up enough interest is a bit unlikely until it's more definitive than "we might do it".

EQ live classic servers do this and EMUs have "box..true box ( meaning one account per PC) limited boxing.. like only 2 or 3 etc.. or no boxing allowed. So i am guessing they are talking about this.. but its not documented.. it was mentioned in a dev rountables. They have never said 100% How they will deal with it. The best you can get out of anything they have said is that IF they allow it, they will want to make sure boxers follow the play nice policy type thing. You would have to go to youtube and listen to the many dev roundtables and google multiboxing in Pantheon to get the info.

Is Pantheon still in development? I haven't see any release yet. Seems like an interesting take on the MMO genre.

Well, they posted an October newsletter yesterday, so seems to be slugging on. Don't expect even a release in a long while though. Seems their "Roadmap to Alpha" (found in the update) mostly shows things as either "In Progress" or "To-do"

It's a rather different brand of game so I don't know if I'm too worried about the perceived slow progress on it, but generally it is not a good thing for development to stretch out too long... Who knows really.
