Has anyone heard of Bias Lighting? Seems interesting, and amazon has USB bias lighting for monitors for under $10 so I thought I would give it a try.

Heres an information article

Basically you're adding additional light to the outside of the scene so your eyes do not dilate as much, reducing eye strain.

No personal experience with it on a computer monitor.

However, I have used it for my main TV for that very reason (dilation and strain from sudden contrast changes). Seems to help me a lot.

I don't use it on my computer monitors because i don't have that room totally dark (cant see the keyboard otherwise). But if you do like to keep your room dark, I don't see why it wouldn't help (at least not hurt).

I've seen a few videos online about it, and it seems interesting. I think there was some that you can hook into your computer that mirrors the colors that are on your screen so it seems like an extension of it.

Seems neat

I have a USB light strip on the back of my DLP HDTV in the living room, and I use one of these behind the monitors on the office desk: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0721VZDFL/

The need for this is (IMO) greatly dependend on how bright you have the TV/monitor set. My DLP HDTV throws a TON of light straight out, so it'll make your eyes water if the room is black. My monitors are much more controlled.

The other thing that helps is using a program like f.lux (https://justgetflux.com/) or SunsetScreen (http://www.skytopia.com/software/sunsetscreen/).

Personally, I prefer SSC because you can schedule your own times (f.lux did not have this option back when I first began using it), and it has never caused me any issues with the GPU/CPU during transitions.

I got some cheap "gunnars" awhile back and i also enabled a filter in windows and turned the brightness down. It helped a lot. The gunnars can be pricey so if you are able to buy them and return them asap if they didnt suit you, that would be the best.

Hmm well, you could also try go to your local optichian and ask if they sell "computer glasses".

Who knows, if you are using pc most of the day at your work , you could be elligible for free glasses even.
