View Full Version : <Automata> Mal'Ganis US Horde
MiRai

Automata is temporarily closed for recruitment until further notice.
The guild is not going anywhere, and the people who are currently in it, and active, can stay. There will be some restructuring at some point in the near future after Shadowlands is launched, and will likely re-open sometime shortly after that.
------------------------------
After being forced, by Svpernova, to play Horde (it's a long story), I decided to create a multiboxing guild on the U.S. server Mal'ganis, where him and I, among others, will be spending some (or most) of our time in the coming months in preparation for the next expansion, Battle for Azeroth.
Right now, the guild is nothing more than a storage center for my newly created teams, but after I get several things set up, I expect to be active on almost a daily basis as I level my characters, starting from level 1. After that, my plan is to move forward with end-game content, including basic world quests, mythic dungeons, and LFR, as well as trying to find other players to group up with (either same-server or cross-server) in order to raid.
Now, I'm certainly not opposed to world PvP, but: 1) it won't be my main focus, and 2) unless CRZ is in effect, then there are almost zero Alliance on this realm. Battle for Azeroth will bring a PvE/PvP toggle for the outside world, and that is likely when there will be slightly more focus on PvP.
As for the server, Mal'ganis has always been one of the highest ranked progression realms (https://www.wowprogress.com/realms/rank/us) since the beginning, and is home to well-known Horde guilds such as Elitist Jerks and The Goon Squad. It's located in the Chicago, IL datacenter, uses a US Central (GMT-6) timezone, and is a highly active realm in both PvE and PvP. It does happen to currently be a PvP realm, but that will, of course, change when the next expansion is released.

FAQ
__What are you hoping to achieve with this guild?
Ultimately, what I'd like to create is a multiboxing guild that is mine, but one that is also open to other multiboxers who may be interested in joining. Today, there is certainly a desire to being on your own realm, and that is understandable. Multiboxers, like most other players, have established themselves on their own realms over time, and I don't expect those players to just up and move over to Mal'ganis simply because there's a new and exciting guild, especially since the implementation of cross-realm technology has given anyone who plays on a certain faction, the ability to group with anyone else from that faction, who is also in your same region.
However...
New multiboxer looking for a home? Come on over!
Feeling like you could use a fresh start? Come on over!
Tired of playing Alliance? Come on over!
Want to hang out with MiRai from time to time? Come on over!
Waiting to see if the guild will actually develop into something before making a move? Understandable!
You refuse to join because you think I look goofy and/or you hate my videos? No problem!
I'd like to have a guild that is active and open to other multiboxers who would like to join. If it ends up eventually attracting a lot of players, fine, but if it ends up being just me, that's fine too.
__What significance does the name "Automata" hold?
The name has no real significance, but "automata" is the plural form of "automaton," which more-or-less means "robot." Yes, I know, I know... multiboxers do their best to distance themselves from that dirty word, along with anything related to automation, but I've been kinda digging the robotic/automation theme for awhile now, and I think the word fits because I am using "barcode" names with my characters.
Personally, I believe there to be a major difference between naming your multiboxing guild <Automata>, and naming it <Hacking>, <Bots>, <Cheater>, or some other term to purposely rile up players who do not agree with the multiboxing playstyle.
__Are there any requirements to join the guild?
Yes.
1) Forum Account
You need to have an account on this site so that I can put your forum name in the public note for everyone to read and know who you are. Over time, if multiboxers continue to join the guild, it's nigh impossible to keep track of who is who unless they have a very distinct naming scheme for their characters. Having your forum name in the public note helps alleviate that.
2) Character Names
The following character names will not be allowed in:
[*=1]Names that look like cancer due to heavy use of non-alphabet or non-English characters (e.g. MǖlŧîꞵøꭙḠøÐ)
[*=1]Names that contain words or phrases that are meant to provoke those opposed to the multiboxing playstyle. (e.g. Cheater, Hacker, Botter, etc.)
[*=1]Names that contain words or phrases that are normally not allowed, but clever tactics were used to bypass in-game restrictions.
[*=1]Names that are (or hint at being) sexist, racist, political, or contain other forms of hate speech.
Silly names, serious names, and/or names that have a theme to them—great! An accent mark or two over the letters in your name—understandable, seeing as it's a very established server and the available names are, at this point, scarce.
__Are there any rules or guidelines once we're in the guild?
No, the guild will be a lawless thunderdome. /s
Yes.
1) Etiquette/Behavior
It's very simple: I ask that you not be an asshole to other players.
Multiboxers already have it difficult enough, and it doesn't matter whether it's party chat, raid chat, trade chat, guild chat, or a private message... don't be a douchecanoe. It's not that difficult to take the high road and just ignore the haters. Feel free to try and reason with them, or use your wit to play with them, but simply attacking others through text, speech, or emote spam is not going to be tolerated. Simply report and/or ignore them, and move on.
2) Tech Support
Questions about your software setup, class compositions, macros, add-ons, or any other theorycrafting is 100% allowed and encouraged.
However, please do not get angry when no one is willing to completely stop what they're doing and give you one-on-one technical support. Some of us have limited time to play, and playing the game is generally done in our free time. I, as well as others, answer questions on the forums and the Discord throughout the day, and when we're playing the game, we're not normally looking to dive right back into that.
Also, keep in mind that you might not be getting purposely ignored, and it may just be that whomever is online is heavily focused on whatever activity they're currently engaged with.
__Is there a care package for those with nothing who create a team on the server?
Right at the moment, I cannot offer anything. I was well-established on Sargeras Alliance, and I have nothing on the Horde side on any server (nor have I transferred anything over, yet). However, once I gain my footing, then care packages will be offered, but there is no ETA on that. #BlameSvpernova
__What happened to the multiboxing guilds on both Sargeras and Bleeding Hollow?
They're still there, but they've been inactive for quite some time. I have my Alliance multiboxing characters on Sargeras and they're still in that guild, and I may dabble in them from time to time, but Svpernova (we're still blaming him) gave me a chance to start fresh with some Horde characters, so I took it.
__Why did you not keep the guild name of <Multiboxer>?
I was actually the one who originally suggested that name to Lax back when we created the guilds on Sargeras and Bleeding Hollow. I do believe that it helps solo players identify with us for what we're doing, but it also makes it difficult to be incognito when you want (e.g. LFR). In addition to that, I do like a bit of a theme to my guild, as well.
__Can you please tell us the story about how Svpernova "forced" you to move to Horde?
Okay, fine.
Lately, I've been seeing him playing on Mal'ganis, so I questioned him. He told me that he was changing factions for BFA and that if I wanted to play with him I would also have to change. He then laughed in my face and mocked the Alliance, yelling, "FOR THE HORDE!" Finally, he said that if I was really his friend, that I would change to Horde because that's what friends do... They blindly follow each other across factions and servers without question.
Some of this story may or may not be true.
__How can you label these questions "frequently asked," when you just created this thread and no one has had a chance to ask anything?
MiRai

__How do I join?
There seems to be some confusion on this, so I'm going to lay it out in several simple steps.
1) Even though some of the FAQ is filled with fluff, I ask that you read it as it does contain information that should be understood and agreed to.
2) If you don't have an active account on this site, then create one.
3) Post in this thread stating your interest (it also helps to introduce yourself, as well, if you're new)
4) When you have your team ready to go, find me or Svpernova on the dual-boxing live chat (http://www.dual-boxing.com/chat), or the ISBoxer Discord (https://discord.me/isboxer), to ask for an invite. You can also try to whisper someone that's on in the guild, but messages can be easily missed when you're focused on multiboxing.

I have been mainly Horde since Vanilla but I have leveled alliance teams too.

I brought my "main" druid over. I've got 2 non-multiboxing friends that moved to Mal'Ganis and I play to rebuild my Druid / Shaman / 3x Hunter team over here. Which means I needed 3 Horde hunters, and a Shaman. Instead of Paying to faction change my existing 110s I decided to take the adventure to start fresh (With a few 100 boosts). I have my druid at 110, 3x Hunters at 100 (Boosted), and I'm currently RAFing 2 accounts so I can get a shaman to 90 easily to power through 90-100 to join the hunters.
So that's my plan. Come and join us!

You best believe your digital beards I will be joining up. I have a huge slew of stuff I can bring over too to help get people started, and have a poo-ton of gold and such.
By bring over I mean I will probably do some fancy guild/character transfers to ferry stuff, but will be starting from scratch from a boxing perspective.
ETA? Two Weeks, give or take Two weeks.

Pro or not, no worries. :) It's very likely that anyone who can invite will miss your whispers since we're in boosting mode and it's very easy to miss any PMs. As noted in the first post, you will either have to come to the dual-boxing live chat (http://www.dual-boxing.com/chat), or the ISBoxer Discord (https://discord.me/isboxer), to find myself, or Svpernova, for an invite.
Also, to anyone else following/reading this thread, I'm re-thinking my leveling strategy (https://www.dual-boxing.com/threads/54224-RAF-ing-Already-Active-Accounts-(Feedback-Wanted)?p=412834&viewfull=1#post412834). :p

You registered on this forum over 5 years ago and you've never multiboxed? I could be mis-reading that, though. Regardless, there is no requirement to be a multiboxing specialist in order to join. :)

From the first post...
If you're interested in joining... ...then you can find me on the dual-boxing live chat (http://www.dual-boxing.com/chat), or the ISBoxer Discord (https://discord.me/isboxer), to ask for an invite.
Please, everyone who is interested in joining, just follow those directions (you can also ask Svpernova). You can also try messaging one of the members in game, but it's very easy to miss those messages when we could be on any character, and super focused on whatever we're doing with our teams (e.g. leveling).
EDIT: I've gone ahead and updated/clarified how to go about joining the guild for whomever may be interested.

I am heading back to Bleeding Hollow for now. I'd like to keep my current toon in your guild though, to play the AH and fund any teams I make on that server.
I just wasn't having any fun leveling. I have such high hopes for the questing changes in the coming patches that I have no desire at all to level anything until then. I do have enough tokens and battle.net balance for like 30 years so I could just pay to server xfer over. But they're going to fix the questing.... I hope.

I've decided to level a team on Mal'Ganis and join the guild - it would be nice to have some boxers to chat with once in a while.
I still have a few weeks left on my existing RaF, but I did an A>B>C>D>E link (with no E>A as A was my main account) so I'm not getting as much out of the free levels at the moment. I also only have Legion on A and B currently. So I took advantage of the holiday sales and bought 5 wow and legion gift licenses, but I have yet to apply them.
I'm planning to level up one team to 100 now with my existing accounts and then later when I have more time to play I'll ditch my old C D E accounts and start a fresh set of 5 on my existing BNet so I can keep the looms and legion flying. I might also take some time to unlock WoD flying in the meantime, as that'll help a lot.
I'm still fairly new at boxing and I haven't played some classes at all yet, so I'm unsure about what classes to make. I've also only played Alliance in the past. I'll start with 5x orc hunters and see how it goes. I'll ask on discord to be invited to the guild soon

But it is a new year after all!
It is also a bit difficult for me to play Horde after having played Alliance for so long. I tend to gravitate toward "human-looking" races, so that's why most of my characters are Blood Elves outside of a few that either couldn't due to race restrictions, or that I felt would just work better with a different race (e.g. Orc Hunter = bonus pet damage).
You're not in the same battlegroup as Bleeding Hollow so that means I can't cross realm raid with you guys right?
Cross-realm grouping for anything outside of current-tier mythic raiding is region-wide, so... yes, you can.

I have no plans to multibox WoD dungeons with these teams, and same-class teams (that I want to keep) will be leveled together 90-110 with full rested and Garrison experience potions. In the past, Svpernova and I had done some dual-multiboxing through WoD dungeons, but, unfortunately, there was never any footage that was uploaded.

I am guessing that 7.3.5 and RAF nerf have impacted your leveling strategy? (and/or motivation).
If you are still going, I would love to get your observations on just how hard these changes have hit. I still hear some conflicting news (for instance while Bliz states XP bonus is capped at 50%, it seems some have been able to use guild banners to get over that, and rested seems to still stack, etc.).
I was intending to level a lot of groups (like you) and hit the guild class achievements. Now I am contemplating some round robin open world boosting to see if leveraging the rested XP along with my heirlooms and guild banner can work (only playing each group once per week until the rested XP is used up and let it recharge while moving to the next group).
I am not too hopeful for that strategy, but I am just trying to make the best of what they haven't nerfed (before they nerf it too).

My recent experience with leveling through dungeons can be found in the Leveling in 7.3.5 thread (https://www.dual-boxing.com/threads/54256-Leveling-in-7-3-5), but the RaF nerf doesn't affect me, at the moment, seeing as I'm grandfathered in for another sixty days. I've leveled from 15-62, so far, but due to, yet another, hardware failure, all of that is on hold for the time being.
With that said, invites to the guild are on hold as I cannot currently access the game, and Svpernova is out of town.

So from the recent posts, it seems the guild is still active?
I am in the process of reinstalling the game, and getting my shit back in order. I am looking to reroll and jump back in game with a few new teams. It'll be slow going since RAF is finished. But it is, what it is.
Should I reroll on Malganis and jump in guild if people are still running?

Real life finally slowing down here and this has been just the motivation for me to jump back in! The wonderful videos have also helped me get closer to my dream of shamelessly stealing as much of MiRai's UI as I can! (Though that default font has been tricky to track down!) I should have a mixed five-man team started this week and ready to start leveling.

To everyone asking, yes, the guild is still around. This thread is barely a month old, and has had plenty of updates, so it clearly has not gone anywhere.
I'm not online simply because my computer is awaiting a replacement CPU from Intel, which is probably not going to be here before next week sometime.
Tick, tock goes the clock on my grandfathered RaF.

So I got my team started and to level 18 so far. I have mostly been configuring ISBoxer and my UI, while it is like riding a bicycle there are still some bumps and bruises from being away so long! I managed to run my first dungeon (Wailing Caverns) since the leveling patch and wow I had a blast! I was actually sheeping mobs on occasion when they added to my boss fights. While I never felt out of control it was certainly more engaging than the faceroll it was previously. I am hoping the rest of the dungeons are just as fun!

I can certainly agree that the dungeons are more engaging, most of the time, since the scaling change, but there will be times where mobs or bosses have a lack of mechanics and it just feels like they are damage sponges for no good reason. My issue with the scaling is that dungeons no longer reward an ample amount of experience for the time and effort required to run them, as I, and others, have stated in the 7.3.5 post-scaling leveling thread (https://www.dual-boxing.com/threads/54256-Leveling-in-7-3-5).
As for an ETA on my "return," I just sent off my bad CPU to Intel yesterday. They won't be receiving it until Thursday, at the earliest, and then it's likely 7-10 business days from there. So, in the worst case scenario, I may not have a replacement CPU until February 11th. -_- Knowing that, I am going to have to set up a basic profile on this secondary machine so that I can begin boosting some characters, because I'm losing out on my grandfathered RaF benefits, and I need to take advantage of them.

I have been trucking along, in fact I watched the Bellular video on 7.3.5 leveling (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-3qnbKQzDM) and he made a lot of great (obvious) observations that I have taken to heart. I managed to run the entire Silverpine and Hillsbrad quest lines and shot from early 20s to low 50s just from that and running dungeons once for the quests. I only had a few issues with phasing but for the most part it went very smoothly. I forgot this was a PvP server and foolishly went to Stranglethorn thinking that would be a lot of quests group together. Thank goodness for mage ports, I was able to evac after a severe pounding. I am trying out Ashenvale now, the quests are not as dense as the previous area but still workable. As soon as my team hits 58 I am swapping my paladin tank for my DK and its a race to Outlands. Per the video I am planning to do Hellfire and Zangamarsh then head of to WotLK.

Yeah, a great questing zone is mostly ruined by it being a PvP server. There isn't anything wrong with outside world PvP, but it really loses its meaning when you're up against opponents that you have zero chance of fighting back against.
As soon as my team hits 58 I am swapping my paladin tank for my DK and its a race to Outlands. Per the video I am planning to do Hellfire and Zangamarsh then head of to WotLK.
Unfortunately, Hellfire is likely going to be a nightmare, as well, and both Honor Hold and Thrallmar are pretty much under constant attack. Any expansion zone where Blizzard funneled both factions into is going to create a bottleneck for leveling on a PvP server—this also includes Hyjal, and somewhat Jade Forest. When players were split between Howling Fjord and Borean Tundra in Wrath, it really helped alleviate that bottleneck.
Obviously, PvP was fun in those days when it happened and everyone was at a similar level doing the same thing, but now that you just want to move through those zones you constantly find yourself being one-shot and then camped by players that you couldn't possibly retaliate against.
I might as well throw in an update from me, as well...
Intel just received my CPU today and it will be another 1-3 days before they're able to "validate" that it's bad, and then send out my replacement, in which it will take another 2-3 days to receive it. So, either this Friday or next Monday, but whenever I do finally get it, it'll still be a few days while I finish piecing the system back together.
I still have 40-something days left on my 300% RaF, and rather than let it go to waste I've got a temp multiboxing setup on this second machine since I still need to level Warlocks, Druids, Hunters, and Death Knights. The way my RaF accounts are split up is a bit ridiculous, so while boosting is amazing, it's quite costly due to transfers and boosts to fill in any blanks, especially since I want some Nightborne Warlocks and High Mountain Druids. I'll obviously have to level the allied races up from the beginning with no level granting if I want that heritage armor, so I'm thinking that I can avoid the PvP portion of leveling by just making one character on a PvE server. Then I'll be able to more easily level my teams up, and, with level scaling, I don't think it'll take too long at all, but, most of all, I'll avoid those aforementioned PvP server bottlenecks.

They really should do sharding by level. With appropriate scaling, this should at least mostly level the playing field. Put any group in a shard based on the highest level player. Anything at level would scale to be "reasonable, xp-off twinks aside" and anyone above the scaling cap wouldn't impinge on the lower levels.

So I managed to get my team up to 60, swapped the Paladin tank for my Death Knight and thought "Hellfire can't be as bad as MiRai makes it out to be..." In in the immortal words of Taliesin, "It was a shit show!" Wow, I could not even imagine it could get that bad. It was pretty funny listening to all of the whining but I did waste some leveling time on multiple corpse runs. I managed to get a few quests done (avoiding the collection ones) but what I did discover was Zangamarsh was completely devoid of players! The level was perfect to pick up quests and I was able to get to 63 unmolested. I hopped over to Nagrand but at 63 I am too low for the quests so I think tomorrow I will head over to Terrokar Forest.

In other news, there will only be two more videos before the Automata dungeon leveling series comes to a close—I know you're all crushed. With that said, I have to focus on using the remaining three weeks of my grandfathered RaF accordingly, and that means three things:
1) Finish leveling the last few same-class teams I have through questing, level granting, and/or using the boosts I've accumulated.
2) Begin slowly transferring characters around so that I can begin leveling certain same-class teams from 90 to 110.
3) Start two new teams to level through the 15-90 dungeons, twice more, so that I can document each of those dungeons—more details in this thread (https://www.dual-boxing.com/threads/54340-Dungeon-Tactics-Video-Series).
This means that my presence in the guild will be reduced while I'm on the two throwaway teams recording footage for future videos, so don't burn the place down while I'm semi-absent.

I just want to give a heads up to everyone who might be watching this thread (including current guild members). I have been somewhat absent simply because I have a lot going on right now and I just cannot find the time to fire up a team at the moment. Normally, I like to have a few hours available in a play session, especially while leveling, and I can't say I've had much of that recently. Once I finally finish running dungeons for my dungeon tactics video series, then I'll have that time free to redirect back to my actual teams in the guild—ETA is hopefully soon-ish.

My name is Wendy. My main is a hunter named Wewenethiwa (A Sauk name that means "she is beautiful.) Most of my characters have Native American names. I am new to dual-boxing. So far I am just doing it with the 2 accounts. I headed about your guild and I am looking to join. My characters that I just made on your realm are ;
Gouyen. Nightborne Priest (f Native American, Apache Means "wise" in Apache. This was the name of a 19th-century Apache warrior woman.)

Welcome to the party. Everything has died down as of the last few months since the expansion is coming to an end. I didn't have time to do what I wanted with my teams, and I'm still behind on everything that I had planned (including plenty of real life stuff), so, instead, I'm mostly dedicating the last few weeks before the pre-patch to some solo characters and am enjoying it thoroughly.

So, I had read this post, but then I opened up a new tab to continue browsing all the other posts because I was way behind on reading the forum, and so I completely forgot about this tab.
Anyway, the same people are still in the guild—some multiboxers have come and gone, and it's quiet at the moment. I'm trying to play catch-up with work right now, so I haven't even gotten around to logging in all of my solo-play characters since 8.0 dropped.

Was digging into multiboxing videos on YouTube and MiRai’s channel in particular and was so excited to see this. The great teams at dual-boxing and ISBoxer helped me years ago to build my 2500k system, and while my teams are on Area 52, (three and a half years since i played,) I think I may make the move to Malganis. Have to start from scratch mostly as I cannot afford to move everyone, and ... I have no computer... so that is starting over, but I would love to roll with other boxers. Been holding off posting last few weeks till I did more research on hardware as I try to configure a new build, but had to jump on here and say I am feeling more excited about getting back into WoW now that I know you MiRai are getting a new guild together, and I was already excited enough to decide to spend thousands on a “budget” build. I have read the faq and will be posting in the hardware section soon, so I can get up and running and send you guys a request. My Goal? From an iPad mini to PC Multi-Boxing Glorious Madness in 30 days or less. I am so tired of 7.9 inch screen. But now I got to go figure out what the heck this M.2 NvMe stuff is about... Oh, and one more thing - “For the Horde!”

Morning/Afternoon/Evening
I have returned to WoW after a several xpack hiatus where I multiboxed on other games. I brought my wife with me to WoW-BFA cause we think it looks amazing. She is my teams healer. We were interested in being a part of the Automata community on Mal'Ganis. We've been watching Multiboxology for long time now. I plan on starting with some d-box and perhaps some tri-box. The WoW resource requirements have grown with the game considerably so I will need to make some pc upgrades to rock a full 5 man team. Figure it gives me time to set up my isboxer foundation with a small team that I can simply expand on later.
We'll be in realm, we're leveling from 1 to rehash the game play and tune the muscle memory to the spell rotations.
Cheers!

The honest truth is that, currently, nothing is going on in the guild, and, for me, multiboxing, in game, has been put on hold for a bit while I sort things out and wait for 8.2 to arrive so that I don't have to deal with the RNG Azerite gear lottery. However, I'm still present on the forums and Discord, while making videos where I can.
