View Full Version : Strobe/Follow issues with similar character names
So when I turn on follow or strobe, the characters get confused and follow the nearest character... I very stupidly named them the same
Malglock
Malglocka
Malglockb
Malglockc
Malglockd
they basically follow the nearest "Malglock" - is there any way I can force them to follow the original "Malglock" ?

is this jamba-follow your using?
it should not matter the name as it goes of the real name.
if you using jamba do following make sure the master is set right. sometimes it does not push over right

Are you in a party? I recall the normal follow mechanic having similar issues where trying to make them follow a character called Wubhunt would cause them to follow Wubhunttwo or Wubhunter instead if they were not in the same party/raid.

Unfortunately, that is exactly how /follow is implemented in WoW. It does not first check if "Malglock" exactly matches, it just scans for the first thing in some list that matches the substring "Malglock" and follows it.
If you use ISBoxer, the ISBoxer Addon implements a fix as long as you're in the same party or raid (this is what Wubsie is referring to), where it checks for an exact match and then converts to the appropriate party1, party2, party3, party4, etc or raid1, raid2 and so on instead of /follow "Malglock".
Either way, consider renaming your main toon.
There are many posts about this exact issue over the years here. :)
Yea, I figured as much, I just remade the entire team... they were only 25 so not much work to get them back up, better than paying to rename the main :)
