View Full Version : Has patch 7.3 broken loot?

For anyone else?

Things have been going perfect over the last 3 weeks with the game. All 5 toons, from lvl1 to lvl47, never a single issue in instances.

Then patch 7.3 broke 1/2 my add-ons. That's kind of ok. It took a week to get all of the layouts right. But no biggie. We've all seen this.

But it also seems to have broken loot in instances for me.

"Pass on Loot" is simply being ignored. People with Pass set to "Yes" are getting loot from any / all mob. Loot is so weird, it doesn't even behave like the old "Group Loot" did. It acts like nothing else.

I've spent the last 4 to 5 hours trying everything I can, but I simply can't overcome this.

- removed all add-ons
- deleted WTF
- repaired WoW

Now, I've just started BRD. Is that it? Is BRD broke?

I've tried everything, except deleting entire WoW, and re-installing from scratch.

And it's weirdness too:

- With 10 dead mobs on the ground, everyone has various loot.
- Ability to skin dogs that still have loot on them! And the dog does not dissappear after skinning, because it has loot on it. And someone else can go up afterwards and loot the dog. (no MC core hound parody / pun intended)
- Lots and lots of mobs (humans) that have no loot at all; for anyone in the party. And I mean, no DI scraps, no dust, no keys, no grey loot, no nothing.
- 5 or 6 dead humanoids with no loot for anyone.

For me, this is kind of game breaking.

Has anyone, ever seen anything like this?

Old dungeons bosses are using personal loot like in dungeons from wod+ that means loot is per char not to rolled on.

yes, this makes sense and is fairly consistent with what i am seeing.

- deadmines (loot worked) - had been re-done
- stockades (loot worked) - had their bosses, quests, scripts redone, even though it was the same layout
- gnomeregan (loot worked) - had many changes, even though most bosses looked similar, and with same layout
- maraudon (loot worked) - had some boss script changes, new bosses, etc, and with same layout
- uldaman (loot worked) - had some boss script changes, new bosses, etc, and with same layout
- scholomance (loot worked) - had a full re-write of all bosses, and significant zone changes
- dire maul (loot worked) - had identical zone layout, and some boss scripts changed
- BRD is completely broken

so, every single dungeon boss and every mob killed had exactly the same (expected) loot behavior, appearing to work properly, even though it was "old" content, until BRD.

what defines "old"? since every one the above is vanilla, and re-worked.

so, every single green drop, and every single boss drop was rolled on. there was not a single exception.

regardless of what the loot system is now called (and i have fully researched this), it has functioned perfectly, and functioned as expected until now.

the odd thing, is that BRD appears to have the same elements (similar or identical zone, with different quests, boss scripting), that all of the above instances already completed had.

this group has not completed a single quest in world, or looted anything in world. and only killed world mobs to get to instance entrance. so i don't know how world loot works. perhaps i should have paid some attention.

since i cannot tell the difference between any of the instances completed and BRD, is there a place anyone knows of which lists the "old dungeon bosses" versus new ones?

what is "old"?

i hope to get this hammered out in the next few days. i need to know expectations going forward. subs are up in a week, and if BRD is consistent with all other greater ilvl instances moving forward, then there is no point in continuing this exercise (as fun and challenging as it might be).

If it's the personal loot thing, this is one of the things I hated about the Loot-a-rang change. That thing made personal loot so much easier to deal with. After that broke, I just automatically hit IWT repeatedly on every mob if I was paying attention to loot. It slowed things down quite a bit in some areas but I was never focused on blowing through instances as fast as possible.

I have found making most of my teams to have engineering as you only need like 125 lvl to be able to use the engineering loot-a-rang,
then all i do is mainly just use it to loot all mobs and bosses, then Jamba will take care of the looting very well.

thank you for your quick replies. all of this is helping me to better understand what it taking place here. i will look in to Jamba, as i am not familiar with it yet. unfortunately, i covered the rainbow of profession choices, incase i decide to 100 boost them after hitting 60+. i realize i could probably have lvl1 prof's at 60+, and they'd be auto-leveled to 700, but i made my dumb choices early on, and everyone is around 200 (incl. fishing / cooking / etc) due to resources i apparently had on hand already, along with more relaxed WoW rules about how nodes could be looted. given up on BRD (likely my favorite instance of all time), and moving team to Stratholme today for further testing.

It appears pre-BC has moved to personal loot for bosses and quite probably for trash.
The big glitch I saw last night was in sunken temple, the quest drop for killing one of the bosses didn't fall at all. two of my toons got loot from the boss, none got the quest drop. not that big a deal to me but for a single player levelling without RAF having a bunch of borked up dungeon quests is a problem.

BC dungeons seemed to be back to normal group loot so what i fear is that they are batch doing each xpac as they have time and that eventually all of them will be moved to personal loot.

i have no frame of reference of how loot works in Legion. but it appears that a few others have noticed.

all new to me really. i'm reading more, but assuming at this point that loot will be "broken" in my eyes once i reach Legion as well.

[EDIT]

after reading through some of the thread, i decided to send the team back to BRD and almost had time for a full run.

what i found was that Blizzard has fixed some of the problems with the latest patch or two.

- loot found on more than 2x as many mobs, even if it was just coins.
- more loot for everyone (combined), than if soloing for prof mats.
- 3 bosses (20%) dropped items (identical) for 2 toons instead of just one.
- and of course, loot is shaped to the recipient (class / spec) now, instead of random.

i solo'd BRD on another toon to see what it was like, and found interesting things.

- less drops for professions. this will absolutely effect gathering for profs (cloth).
- less drops for 1 toon, than a 5 man group would get, by a factor of 2x (or so).
- less non-class specific loot (ie, mail, leather, cloth, etc) for transmog, if you are wearing plate (for example)

Blizzard it seems, is trying to do something very smart. it is very "Diablo 3" - like. it's not perfect yet, but it could be at some point. far from "Broken", really if it works.

in conclusion, i still prefer Master Loot to decide who in my group needs the drop the most. and it will negatively effect professions. and it will negatively effect transmog. those people have a reasonable gripe, imo.

the poster above with the "Loot-a-rang" suggestion (62 Doug) is awesome.

i am going to stop leveling profs, drop them fully (except having a group DE somewhere), and level engineering to 125 to get this item on all toons now to try it out.

thank you for your suggestion.
