View Full Version : Follow 'lag'

Hi guys, as expected I'm entirely new to dual boxing, but I thought I'd give it a try. So now I'm playing 2 priests, and enjoying myself very much! Problem is, my second priest is always following the first one, but she seems to have some lag, i.e. when the first
priest stops walking, the second over takes her for a couple feet, then instantly 'jumps' back behind the first one.
Here is the weird thing though, the above problem only occurs when I run 2 copies of WoW on 1 machine. When I use a second computer for the second priest, the problem all together disappears. Also, with the 2 computer setup, the second priest tends to /follow alot closer. In the 1 computer setup she gets behind so far, that somtimes she stops following.
Oh yes, and the reason I don't use the second computer is because it's unstable for some reason.
My main computer is a 2.6 gHz dual core AMD 64 with 2GB ram. It's running XP. Both WoWs are set to different CPU affinities. The second priests WoW is running in the background at all times. Using Octopus to share keys.
So I guess my question would be if you guys know what causes this problem and how to solve it. If it's unsolvable I guess I have to figure out what is making the second computer unstable.
Edit: so I did some more observing :). Casting seems to go great, they start and finish casting at almost the exact same time. It's just the following that's 'lagging'.

I use Keyclone not Octopus so I can't really speak to your specifics, but:
Lower ingame settings?
Sound disabled on follower?
Can you adjust FPS with octopus? (i honestly have no clue)
Running 2 accts from same folder or seperate folders?
Seems like a satisfactory cpu, borderline ram, but what about vid card?
I am definitely no tech-guru, especially compared to others here but those are the first things that pop into my head.

The follower has all video settings tuned down, except resolution. She needs to use the same resolution so my monitor doesn't have to switch when I alt-tab. It's a Geforce 7200GT with 512mb memory. Both accounts have a separate folder. As far as I know it's not possible to adjust the FPS, I have to mention though, that my main is getting a steady 60 FPS. I'll try turning of sound, and see if I can turn video settings down a bit more.

/console maxfps 15
Do that on the followers if octupus cant do it for you. :-)

Edit: I might have stumbled upon the cause of this problem. I used the task manager to set cpu affinity, however, both WoWs still only use CPU0. For some reason I can't seem to set the correct affinity.
Edit2: Nope, the affinity doesn't seem to be the problem.
Edit3: Solved it by not running one in the background. They are now both running in the foreground, works like a charm.

How bout Addons? You have a massive pile of unneccesary addons on clone perhaps?
AFAIK most of us tune down reso for boxing, it's a necessary evil. (1pc software boxing at least) Sparklies + multiboxing = lag.
Again, most of us Keyclone users set main to 45fps, clones to 15.
Ive tried setting/leaving affinity alone and I honestly cant ever notice a diff either way personally. (Q6600 here)
If in doubt:

http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/7897/funnypicturescomputermosy2.jpgThe follower is toned down, and capped at 15fps. But at this moment it works like a charm, no that I have both windows open that is. The problem only arrises when the followers window is set to fullscreen, and then minimalized.
I do need to get myself some of those rams though :).

I used to have the same problem with you. But after I bought another LCD and used the maximizer of keyclone to put the 4 alt windows on the second LCD, the problems are gone. Now my 4 alt characters never stop follow.

If it doesn't do it when you run windowed and with the maxfpsbk set but DOES do it when you maximize the alt and then minimize it, that sounds like a graphics-related issue and not a RAM or resources issue. Second monitors are pretty damn cheap if you don't do photo editing and such. ;)
