5x Affliction lock

So I started this team up from scratch with the hopes of being able to do mythic dungeons with the pets tanking. about 3 weeks ago I got them to 110. A little gearing and poof mythic dungeons are being downed. I did my first one at 810-825 ilvl. Trash mobs are the hardest part but on packs I knew I couldn't "AOE" down I focus feared and took them out 1 at a time. Very fun team overall. Their self healing is through the roof.

You think 5x affli is better than 4x affli + some kind of tank?

I think the pets tank fine but if you are going to add a tank you might as well add a healer and go trinity setup. This is just something fun to do like 5x hunters.

Very nice. For trash, I usually played my warlocks like I did my hunters: sic a different pet on each trash mob and then DoT things up and DPS the most dangerous things first. Worked pretty well, though I haven't played that team since WoD. Glad to see it working for you!

10 of them were stupid in open world PvP since every healthstone you used would fully heal the entire group, once you got the talent on your weapon.. pretty stupid good. lol

Sow the seeds is meant to be very strong in Mythic+ are you not using that talent for aoe?

I would have at least 2 Voidwalkers because they make really good single target tanks, and the rest the aoe tanks... plus you can then summon another demon on those for a bit of extra dps.

AOE tanking isn't great with locks, I bet sticking a hunter with a tank pet in would be good, and with the free rez could keep things going a little longer.

Glad to see this as I was wanting to do Aff x5 (currently I have x2 of them) but didn't want to go to all the hassle of gearing them/grinding artifact to find they just aren't viable.

Did you have to rez/heal the pets much?

My ilvls are still kinda low and i was really surprised that i could take down a mythic at such low ilvl. The healthstone complete heals are amazing on round robin. There are still many things i haven't tried yet.

I will throw in 2 voidwalkers and see how that fairs but for the most part i don't feel like i'm summoning too many pets. Next mythic ill try to keep count on bosses to give a better estimate. The last few bosses that i have killed were dead in about 1 min 30 sec.

I think my biggest complaint is 2.2 sec cast time on seed. I cant stand how long it takes to start aoeing.

In my head I thought locks could work, but I was worried about the cast time of rezzing a dead pet plus the ss cost. I love the explosions on sow the seeds though very nice :)

They may be on the low end dps wise, but the healing and the fact they can at least do a bit of dps on the move is a plus.. I just love the play style.

Yeah orc but i would really consider changing to bloodelf for the silence on round robin.

I felt the same way when i posted a while back about the pets tanking. The SS cost is fine unless you go crazy casting UA.

My DPS meter isn't crazy high but my DPS never stops on the bosses which makes them die at a very consistent pace.

My goal is keep dots on boss, keep pets up, run in circles and don't get hit with crap, win.

I will have to try sow, I have been reluctant to do so because i really like siphon. Not sure what that would do to my boss dps.

got eye down as well yesterday. Serpentrix is a real pita. You literally have a 1 sec window to stop running and cast a pet.

I'm still working on Vault of the Wardens last boss. For some strange reason when she floats up into the air and you are dodging the green walls she loses all agro with my pets. When you dodge the 4 walls and she drops down she instantly goes for my locks 1 at a time and i cant get her off me.

She will also lose agro with the pets when she puts on the immune shield. I need to find the add super quick or she just blasts my locks.

Good fun though. The team is very enjoyable.

I did however get Neltharion lair down. My first run through and 2nd boss stopped me dead in my tracks. Little bit of gearing and i got him on the 2nd try. The last boss is much harder than the 2nd. I was knocked all over that room.

Are you using a /petattack macro? Maybe stick her on focus and let give a couple of voidwalkers a try? They are way better at single target aggro.. could be that pet tanks are just causing it to glitch out.

I'm liking the buffs too, but if they are too strong they will just get nerfed again :( Aoe took a bit of a hit with sow the seeds going from 4 to 2 additional targets.

I'm just playing my main Affliction lock solo atm... I do notice on quests my lock gets aggro a lot using the abyssal.

Well i got Vault of the wardens and Violet hold down today.

Wiped on last boss in vault 22 times before getting her down. I found that jumping off the platform when i get agro helps a little but i lose the light and have to go grab it again. Needless to say i wont be going back to this instance unless forced.

Violet hold was much easier but still getting Shivermaw was horrible. I did not have a spread macro so i wiped a few times on Lord Malgath. Overall not bad for my first time there and winging it. Will post the vid after it uploads.

At least now i can start doing some kara bosses. I do feel the power of this team but its mostly finding burst windows for each boss.

Well i tried kara tonight and here was the results

Beautiful beast: Wiped 5 times and then finally beat it after i figured out to burst the stick that was chasing me around. Overall not too hard of a fight. Unfortunately this was the only boss i got down.

Maiden of Virtue: 2 wipes. I dont think i have any chance of killing this boss so i did not try any further.

Moroes: 7 total wipes. Best attempt was 38%. I was able to get the adds down on that attempt but then moroes dropped agro from pets and killed the locks 1 at a time. If i had soulstone up for this attempt i probably would have beaten it.

I have lost a bit of confidence with the locks after this session. When i am bursting the pets simply don't hold agro as they should? Maybe i should be healing the pets more instead of summoning new ones that have no agro built up.

Will attempt more tomorrow. Maybe i'm just tired.

I also agree that the burst damage causes the aggro loss.. prob is with healing them is it takes your health to do it, and you just have to pray there's no damage directed at you while you do it... if you do have to heal them more as you get higher mythic levels then I feel too much dps would be lost.

I had no issue with healer with 4 pet classes in the past, but with my Hunters my Priest got so much aggro and the pets could not shift it. :(

Here is Mythic Violet Hold from yesterday. This run forced me to get my spread macro working because it would have gone so much better if i had it.

After sleeping on the warlock team I've come to realize that what i am doing is actually pretty hard. I took it really hard last night when i couldn't get but one kara encounter down. Then i thought about when i was not multiboxing and playing my druid tank. A team of solo players had a hard time with a lot of those encounters and the endless groups that dismantled because it it.

My expectations for this team was to clear mythics which i am doing. Anything further is just gravy. I will continue to push the team and see what i can pull off.

And I do not regret it, BM hunter is even a bit stronger now in 7.1.5 :D

Very nice progress. So have you given up on the 5x aff lock team in favor of the hunters then?

I just finished leveling my 5x lock team to 110 and was thinking of doing another team, possibly hunters, to 110. The only thing holding me back is the fact that once you get to 110 all of the "gated" quests are single-player scenarios (Exodar, Surumar intro, etc). As an example, it took me around an hour to do the exodar quest 5 times for the 5 locks, which isn't that bad I admit, but it just felt like a long time since many of the refugees are spread out and trying to close the gates usually leads to mass aggro.
