My assist SUCKS. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Mercurial bastard. Anyways I made a pastebin of my toolkit and I used MiRai's pro videos to create the kit.

I think it may be Jamba, maybe FTL isn't working. I tried deleting Jamba and installing it again, but there must be some config file elsewhere that I need to take care of...

Yours is identical to mine for all intents and purposes except that I call my assist key directly from step 1 in my DPS keys. Are you pressing SHIFT+A to assist every time you need it? If so, try adding it to your dps rotation mapped key and see if it still fails. If it does NOT fail, then I suspect it has to do with the SHIFT modifier state getting intermittently screwed up, which means it probably isn't the game or any addons.

I had it that way originally and it was causing my leader to target the last target I had (even if I had no target) also Interact With Target calls FTL assist anyways so it felt silly to call it again.

edit: does just deleting Jamba folder get rid of all the saved teams? Or do I need to find a config file somewhere else?

Figured I'd put in an update. The above issue was caused by not doing a /console reloadui after changing the /assist macro to use ], so it was using the old macro, which happened to be /targetexact.
What that did prove was that ISboxer is sending the keystroke, the macro is executing, and FTL is working (Follow FTL is also working too).

After going through just about everything imaginable, this is a weird issue. The only command that is not working is /assist, and it is not because something else is picking up BACKSPACE, because it was changed to ], and after reloading the Addon, still no Assist.

All addons disabled, cache deleted, attempted using to invoke the macro directly (with the appropriate modifiers and keycombo).
Short of attempting typing out /assist CHARNAME on the console, or even creating his own macro with the same damn thing, and seeing if that would work, I got a bit stumped. It's almost like the /assist alias is being ignored or overwritten. This might be corruption, which is pretty much the last thing I can think of that would cause this; it's just that it is so damn specific.

I think this might be a clue. When your leader targets the last target you had, it usually means you are sending the /assist {FTL} to everyone and not "all other" so your main is re-targeting again pointlessly. There could also be some unexpected interaction with "sticky targeting" in the wow ui options as well.

No. As I explained above, that particular issue was caused because I had him change the Key Combo on the Assist macro to something other than BACKSPACE. He choose [, which is normally assigned to /targetexact macro. He exported, but did not to a /console reloadui, so ISBoxer then sent FTL+[, which the prior ISBoxer Addon registered as /targetexact, so everyone targeted the main. After doing a /console reloadui to load the new ISBoxer Addon, back to the behaviour of no assist.

Typing in /assist CHARNAME on the in game console should work. It is not. This is the issue. /assist CHARNAME does nothing in game (nor /a ).

It was an in game issue that a developer fixed for me by taking my account for an evening. No idea what they did, but it fixed it!

Was that account a trial at one point? Aren't trial accounts restricted from certain things?
