I'm relatively new to all this dual boxing stuff. I downloaded octopus this morning, tried to set it up for quad boxing and followed two tutorials i found. I'm running vista and i downloaded the 3.5 network thing and the other download C++ thing. as soon as I press the Start button after I set everything up my octopus just crashes. Also in the video tutorial it shows the "instance" button as clickable, mine's greyed out. Is this a Vista problem or something else I'm doing improperly?

thanks

What does the crash message say? What does the application event log show as the error? What folder are you running it from? What OS are you using?

Need more detail on your setup, methinks.

I'm running windows vista 32 bit OS

i saved octopus to a folder on my desktop and ran it from there, if you mean what file , i linked octopus to open wow from the wow executable in my wow folder, there's no application event log, vista is not picking it up as a crash, but it's definitely just crashing when I try to run it

run as admin?
Instance button enables when you start the server up.

On Windows Vista, Octopus must be run as Administrator. Some where in the documentation it says that it 'may' be run as Administrator, but I have found that if it's not, it just doesn't run and you don't get any message telling you what is wrong.

May I assume that, even though I am running an Admin account, that I must physically right-click and select the option to run Octopus as an Admin? If so, that explains my problem.

I think this is the case. In the topic I say it "may need to be run as an administrator" not may be run as an admin... personally I have found it runs fine under an admin account ... without right clicking "run as admin" etc.
