Wondering if anyone has upgraded to one of these displays yet and what kind of crunch it had on your specs.
Mine:
Ram: 16gb
GPU: 780
CPU: i7 2600K
I only run 2-3 instances at most. Probably going to be dual boxing all of Legion.
Do you think 3440 x 1440 would give me issues on ultra?

First, we don't know what resolution you currently use, second, you don't know what resolution you're going to be using on the monitor, and third, we don't really know how much of an increase, graphically, Legion is going to be.
However, here are some numbers assuming you play at 1920x1080...
1920 x 1080 = 2,073,600 pixels x 2 game clients = 4,147,200 total pixels
3440 x 1440 = 4,953,600 pixels x 2 game clients = 9,907,200 total pixels
9,907,200 / 4,147,200 = 2.39, but we started with 1.00, so 2.39 - 1.00 = 1.39, or about a 139% increase in pixels that will need to be driven by your GPU—which is, again, assuming nothing else changes in your setup at all (which is impossible seeing as Legion is changing things).
So, now you need to monitor what your hardware is doing to see if it's capable of handling such a large increase. There's a page over on the ISBoxer Wiki (http://isboxer.com/wiki/HOWTO:Tweak_your_framerate#Identifying_framerate_b ottlenecks) which helps people figure out how to do this.

I use a 1920 x 1080 display stacked, with gfx for the 1-2 second accounts I play.
There is another monitor also 1920 x 1080 linked to the same GPU. The GPU is a 780 GTX.
My main concern was going from 1920 x 1080 to 3440 x 1440. I am guessing that this bump will have more of a performance hit than having a second display running this browser window on the same GPU.

Ah well, I took the jump to the display. So we'll see on Tuesday I guess!

Back to hardware boxing!

I couldn't resist. After seeing the amount of UI room spared by a 3440 x 1440 display I thought to myself this is exactly what I need to solve the screen clutter when 2-3 boxing on a 1920 x 1080 screen.

Ok, so monitor arrived and installed.
2s went from 50-55 in warspear to about 39 in warspear.
I haven't done 3s yet but man this is a huge improvement on the game experience. I get closer to 50FPS outside of capital cities.

I checked out 3s today just to see how it was.
I noticed while 3 boxing Mogushan vaults on 25 man mode the spell effects got to be rough ( 20 fps ) on spiritbinder. Warspear was much lower about 30fps on a good spot.
At this time it appears 1 instance is almost twice as demanding on this resolution for the GPU. Makes sense. I dropped the main down to 'good' settings and that brought the main back up to 55-60FPS in Warspear.
Probably due for a GPU update pretty soon. I will say 3440x1440 and 4K are both going to require a very expensive GPU to multibox.

I see similar performance drops on my Dad's new laptop. It has a 4k display and certain things that work marveously on the same GPU at 1080p just are not happy at 4k. (e.g. web apps with large amounts of DOM elements) So it's not just WoW that suffers from this.

Yeah I didn't think 1440p would be the same crunch as 4k. It isn't as far as I can tell but its still a pretty good step up from 1080p.
4k I cannot imagine trying to box on that.
I intend to keep my instances around 2-3. So it won't impact me that badly yet. Maybe come Legion I will need to do a GPU upgrade.

I 5box on a 3440x1440 monitor, only difference is I have a gtx980, so I do have a bit of grunt in my graphics.
However when I first got the monitor and graphics card, I thought I could max out my graphics on all my boxes but too my disappointment I couldn't.
So then then proceeded to lower the settings, but then MiRai released one of his videos: https://youtu.be/J94GQWXTq78 which shows how to auto swap the graphics settings in WoW when you switch toons. This actually helped me out a lot.
So now I get 60fps on my hot toon all the time, but that's because isboxer is limiting them, if I don't limit I can get 150+ fps on my hot toon.
So if you have you troubles with your fps, I highly suggest watching his video. Although you may have to drop some of your settings because your using an older card, you still might be able to keep some of the eye candy.

Yeah I'm aware of how to hot swap gfx by way of macros.
I could definitely 5 box on this setup but the main would have to be on 'good' and then in places like Warspear near the vendors it would be crunched to a noticeable degree.
So the step from 780 to 980 is pretty significant? I'm debating what GPU I will upgrade to come Legion. I'm gonna sit it out until then.

Yeah the jump would be pretty significant.
My last rig had a core2duo with a gts460, lets just say it just managed 5boxes at 1080p on medium to low settings. I was pretty impressed with the difference when I made the jump.
