View Full Version : Xzin, how do you have two PC's hooked up to a single 30"

I've yet to work with any 30" Dell's but I'm looking to order a few. Was curious how you did this?

Thanks!

kvm switch most likely (if he's hooking 2 boxes into a single screen)

Already written about this :)

Right now though, I opted to simply use the 30" turned sideways (vertical). I do not suggest multiboxing with 30" screens (full sized).

I use a special mouse cage program to prevent the mice from moving beyond 50% of the screen as well as WoW Maximizer to set it full screen windowed but only on one half of the screen. The other half is not used for those boxes (yet).

KVM and other solutions are awkward.... one MIGHT could stream the screen in at a lower resolution to display 2 WoWs on 1 screen..... given enough real time processing power. That or run 2 WoWs on 1 30" on 1 machine.

I was under the impression you had the six Dell 30"'s LCD's still. I didn't realize you bought those(what you referenced in the post link).

I prolly confused myself by reading old posts. :)

No, I still have the Dells. The newer ones I would like to upgrade to and swing the "compact" ultra high resolution DL DVI array but personally 20k is too much for that... Even if I bought 4 and got a deal.... its just more than I want to spend on 4 monitors.

I have a few Dell 30's myself (run via nVidia Quadro 4500's (now 4600's)).
I like the 2560x1600 resolution, but I dislike the performance hit I take when I run at that res. I run 2 instances of WoW... each on their own 30" from time to time.

The 27" monitors operate at 1920x1200 and offer that comfortable medium between the 30" and the 24".
This gen's LCD's with an HC suffix offer 92% color gamut. The actual brightness of the display is lowered somewhat (most won't notice/50 nits), but the color range is great (deeper colors/vivid colors).
I like the UltraSharp product line due to the adjustable stands and positional/orientation options allowed.

I do wish the 30" offered more than just a DVI input. I can't wait for DisplayPort, tbh.

Yes but don't the 24s and the 27s have the same resolution? Which means the 24s have higher pixel density and display the same information in a more compact space? The 27s made as much sense to me as buying a 50" Plasma - and only showing normal NTSC resolution content on it!

The thing I love the most is when people name drop their "HUGE" plasma and how a 50" or a 70" is gigantic. Then they run regular DVDs on it (which run at 720 x 480 (assuming NTSC). That is a third of a megapixel! A SINGLE 30" can display over EIGHT DVDs at the same time at native resolution!!! Why the heck would you want to blow that up to 50"?? Even with hardware filtering and smoothing - there is not enough physical information available to render a high resolution movie.

MAYBE if you are running HDTV but even then... the 30" DL DVIs blow that out of the water. Assume you have progressive scan HDTV (many are still interlaced, meaning you lose half of the vertical signal) - but assume you get the highest quality HDTV TV - 1080p - this is still "only" 1920x1080, so 2,073,600 pixels (2 megapixels). The 30" DL DVIs run at 2560 x 1600, or
4,096,000 (4 megapixels). And they are 30" - not 50"+.

So even if you had a 70" plasma or what have you.... what is the point when you only need something like a 21" screen to show that in native resolution? Anything else is just upscaled.

Seriously.

Don't get me started on why HDTV projectors cost $5000+ when all you need is about $800 in parts to make your own.

Oh and Quadros are not really built for gaming.
