Pretty excited, this is my first build since my old Core 2 Duo setup. Thanks to MiRai in helping me pick out parts on a pretty tight budget, first box showed up today, tomorrow the rest will arrive.
Parts list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/MDLhhM
CPU: 4790k
Video Card: GTX 970
New PSU, Cpu cooler as well.
RAM and Motherboard show up tomorrow :D

Fancy.
Very nice :D
Definitely can't fault the parts, are you planning to add a second 970 down the road?

Heh, that's pretty close to the parts list I've been looking at for a Christmas upgrade. I prefer Noctua heatsinks and Thermaltake PSUs but otherwise, yeah. ;) Should be fun!

Don't worry, Svpernova, I'll take these...

I made him purchase the motherboard that he did so that he has the option at a later time. :)

I think he went over budget actually, so we had to cut some corners, but it's certainly light years ahead of the stock Intel cooler. ;) As for the PSU, I believe the G2 line is all made by Superflower, which is why EVGA backs it with a 10-year warranty (it was also on sale for ~33% off).
I have a G2 850 myself, and yes they're from Superflower. Rock solid PSUs. Those EVO coolers actually aren't anything to sneeze at, they manage to fit in smaller cases (Noctua D15 does not) and at a fraction of the price. Actually easier to mount different fans on these than some after market coolers I've dealt with as well (I love BeQuiet stuff, but their fan mounting solution for the Dark Rock Pro is pita).

Congrats-
Was there any talk of waiting until pascal is released in a few months?

Possibly, I'd really like to test out SLI at some point, this would be a good starting point.

I assumed it'd be out of my budget, which I kinda did go over a bit already.
With regards to Pascal, personally I feel like it's too early to say anything definitive. We know it's going to exist, we don't know exactly when or what it will be, let alone pricing. The new generation of NVIDIA GPUs could be just like the latest Intel chips, a marginal increase for an extra hundred bucks (I know I'm writing this from a machine running a 6700k, don't judge me).
There could be production issues, meaning the card you want from Pascal could be totally unavailable or selling at double retail price because of scarcity. There can be driver issues, etc. Who knows. It's the pain of being an early adopter. On the upside, the EVGA cards have a nice trade up program, so potentially you can get into a Pascal card assuming it meets their criteria at the time of release. Having said all of that, I'm holding off on getting a second TI specifically because of Pascal. But I wasn't about to hold off on having a computer in the first place while I waited, I wouldn't expect others to either.
I personally prefer the 390 over the 970 at this price point, but that's personal preference due to running a 4k monitor and loads of mods when I do play a game like Skyrim that can leverage all that vram.

I was a huge Radeon fan years and years ago, and most recently had a 5770 that was nice, but still felt lackluster compared to every Nvidia I've owned. I realize I'm not min/maxing specs to really get all the performance out of it and I'm 100% ok with being a Nvidia fanboy.
That being said, I've seen a lot of people talking good things about the current line of Radeon cards
Yeah, I went from a 270 to a 980 TI. So, yeah I'm with you. I feel like they've reached a stage where at different price points it goes red team while at others it's back to green, whereas a while back I would've said it's all green across the board. I don't take the 3.5 ram gate issue with 970s as seriously as most, but I do see that if you are running a lot of hq texture packs and crap where the extra vram really helps. I'm actually surprised it's not more of an issue in wow when boxing, but yeah I haven't seen a need for huge amounts of vram or super powered video cards in the game. It's nice having everything on ultra at my monitors native res when I'm going solo. But still it's not hogging the resources like I'd expect, the processor on the other hand... yeah, definitely glad I went from an i7 myself.

Congrats SvperNova! Upgrading your rig is always a fun time. It's always a wonderful feeling when you have a bunch of new parts in your hands.
You do know that we now expect more multi boxing movies now so we can assess the performance of the upgrade! Not that we would be judgemental or anything! í ½í¸‰
