I'm really curious to see how well this works out for you. Maybe I just had a bad laptop or something, but my alienware (yes, I know, I was young, I didn't know any better!) was powerful enough to run wow but always had heating issues. I can only imagine when you're pushing the limits with more instances of it. Hopefully cooling has improved significantly since then.

But grats regardless, sounds like a nice laptop.

Congratz man, I just bought a 1730 myself and am waiting for it in the mail haha. 1730 is an awsome system I'm sure you'll love it, I actually work for dell and I've been using a 1720 for a longtime 3 boxxing on it ( it can 5 box with the graphics turned down but I have two machines .. soon to be 3 ). 1730 is easily the best damn notebook around to game on, are you going to try to work with vista or swap it over to XP?

You'll be able to 5-box without any problems on that laptop. I'm currently 5-boxing on the XPS laptop model right before that one. I have a 1710 XPS with Vista Ultimate, 4GB RAM, and a single 7200 rpm drive. When I first started multiboxing I didn't know about the max fps flag and had some occasional lag. After I set my windows to 50 max fps when focused and 15 fps when in the background, I've had no performance or heating problems at all.

I feel that. Back in the day it was my dream to own an alienware laptop and I finally purchased one 3 years ago for about $4000 i think. Constant overheating and bluescreens, you just couldnt put all that power in a lil box and expect it to run well long. I think i sent it in for repairs 3 times in the first year and it usually took me a month to get it back. What a nightmare.

im on a dell inspiron 1720 right now but keep having issues with the retards at dell ordering me a friggin hard drive.>>> my current system holds a 80gig SATA attached HD but the damm thing has a funky connector on the end of it. Dell cant seem to figure out what parts to send me. THis is the 3rd tiem I have had tos end hardrives back to them as they send me the wrong ones. So instead of upgrading the HD on this PC i opted to spend 5k(that I dont have) on a new laptop :}

gratz....I also have a M1730 laptop....2 E1505's and an ancient HP laptop.

As one poster suggested...I am going to build 2 desktops for the price of my one M1730. btw...I got one of the first M1730's when they were available. I only run 3 on my M1730 though. I tried the 5 but I had alot of lag. I know about the linkd system(link your data folder to reduce lag) you could use to solve that lagging problem. Its called something else for Vista though, cant remember what it is. But anywho, gratz, you are going to love that machine.

did you have the

x9000 3.2ghz cpu

or the m8800 gtx in sli on that system?

Hell I can run 3 fine on my dual core 2ghz inspiron 1720 with a 8600gt card with only 256mb of ram. So this new system better run 5 accounts or its going back to dell :}

I am 5 boxing on an M1710 at the moment, 7700C2D and 7950GTX with 2G ram. Currently waiting for another 2G to see how much difference that makes, but in general it has been great and although it does get warm when gaming, I have an antec cooler that I sit it on and I can game with it on my lap for hours without problems.

The only annoying thing I find with it for boxing is that 17" is too small (even with 1920X1200). I have to PiP to make any changes to my alts because I can't read quest or menu text easily. I have been tossing up whether to grab one of these (recently had 15% off here in Aus, almost pulled the trigger on an identical setup to yours for 4k AUD) and put it on a 24" LCD or put together a decent desktop again. The advantage with getting a laptop in Australia however is that you can salary sacrifice it, effectively making it tax free (about 45% less for me) whereas it takes some creative accounting to write off a desktop, esp. when its full of gaming parts :P

Saying that, I could still build a desktop that would probably be faster for 2-3k but I have just gotten used to having a great laptop all the time. The M1710 still serves me well though, so maybe thats enough for now. As you see I am far from a decision :P

Anyway mate, grats on the new machine, looks awesome, can't wait to see some benches/pics/mini review.

Cheers
