View Full Version : Swiftyboxing
Swifty has been trying to get set up multiboxing -- http://www.twitch.tv/swifty. He's also been peeking at the dual-boxing.com forums so let's discuss. ;)
I caught a few minutes last night where he showed his ISBoxer configuration, and I was immediately sadface :( "Unknown-Always On" has all of his Mapped Keys. Two things about that -- 1. this would suggest that during the Quick Setup Wizard the second time around (after the original "Always On" was already set up) he didn't pick World of Warcraft on the first page (picking WoW would have prefixed it with WoW instead of Unknown from picking Other) and may be missing ISBoxer's default macros and WoW follow/assist/interact, and 2. you really want to be able to turn off your custom hotkeys for the ability to, say, type.
I would really suggest to clear that out (File, Clear), update ISBoxer to today's build (Help, About ISBoxer), and then use the Quick Setup Wizard again. Then re-add the custom mappings using the Mapped Key Wizard, but put them in either Combat or Non-combat instead of Always On. The hotkeys toggle (Shift+Alt+M) will toggle them off when needed. Only put things in Always On that you'd never want to disable, usually keys that include modifiers so you're not prevented from typing in chat, etc.
There was a part where I watched Swifty trying to figure out how to set up IWT with the caster (ranged?) step-back to stop moving. This should take like 10 seconds to set up (see below), but to simplify it more today's new build of ISBoxer (41.9.0902.1) now includes a Face Toward Target mapping under Non-combat. All you have to do is give it a Hotkey. (WoW only)
Here's how I quickly set up this key for testing. Right click "Interact with Target" in the Non-combat Key Map and select Make Copy. Rename the copy if you want, but give it a different Hotkey than the original. But expand it and select Step 2, right click Actions and select New Keystroke Action. Set the Target to "Window: All w/o Current", and the Key Combination to "S" (basically any movement button that would interrupt auto-follow or IWT movement). That's really it. But again, now this is generated by the Quick Setup Wizard as "Face Toward Target"
I didn't catch what else he was struggling with, but to me the "Unknown-Always On" thing is pretty glaring. Feel free to post

I messaged him on Twitch to offer my assistance. I assume he gets lots of messages, but you never know if it'll get read. Worth a try.

its kinda fail to watch he was doing it for a good 6 hours i keep going in even went in beta to say hi but as always his so up him self he does not even read wow chat.
but as he is loved by so many even wow devs this could be a good thing with them thinking about follow.

I'd prefer they never think about follow at all lest they think a little too hard and take it away.

when asked in twitter they said "thinking about it" but just saying if all the players love him so much a lot will change there mind on what a lot still think is bad for the game.

I wonder what the risk is for swifty, in as much as he has also championed at times being prepared and his crew's foe and gotten a lot of geeks to rally on that.
I assume he gets overwhelmed by the complexity of isboxer at some point and hits a time to cost issue. He cannot exactly afford to nolife his gaming time tooling his setup.

Okay, that makes some sense then, thanks. I'll have to see what I can do about supporting the current beta phase
ISBoxer 41.9.0902.2 is now up, and available via Help->About ISBoxer. This build adds full support for ISBoxer Addon in the Warlords of Draenor beta (6.0.2), including the correct .toc file version.

i jumped in radcall with Swifty yesterday to help.
Explained a bit to him.
One of the biggest problems was he created all straight broadcast keymaps without assist and then made assist macros to everything in game.
Hes going to start again now he knows a bit more.
I have made him aware of this thread.

Lol my roundabout way of handling focus isn't looking too bad now :p

I made all my macros in game and assist, follow interact with target & dps macros.. I just prefer it that way. I'm not fussed about switching the leader/focus.. makes it more of a challenge :)
I also wrote many times in hes chat about the FTL system. He nerver applied thought.

Initial setup is very overwhelming even with the wizards. A lot of abstract concepts like FTL, various tiers of keymapping and slot ids need to be gone over multiple times to sink in for most people.
Once you have a setup that works for you its very enjoyable to do. Until that time headaches and frustration is real.

Most people don't need to know anything about FTL (the term isn't really even used anymore, it's just labelled "Assist Me"), various tiers of keymapping, or slot IDs. The frustration is real because people think they have to jump through all sorts of hoops, instead of finding out why they seem to be jumping through a lot of hoops!
ISBoxer 2 simplifies things a lot. Working on it ;)

Well I think for basics the existing wizards do fine. Like window layout I really hate having to do manually so it is nice when that works. Other things though like toggles need to be done by hand as there is no wizard to do that. Thinking a very basic DPS AoE / ST toggle here.
Maybe even more elaborate help panels next to all the isboxer specific mnemonics / abbreviations / keywords.
Good to see that it is being simplified.

Oh one thing that would be super great is if isboxer automatically supported existing wow icons. One of the biggest gripes I have is having to manually handle icons for toggle menus and clickbars. Especially since I use them as status displays ( example: aspect display for my hunters ).
I know, that would be a tall order.

I would argue that this can be done by wizard. Mapped Key Wizard has a "Key Map Toggler" which would allow you to turn one Mapped Key (Hotkey) off and another (e.g. with the same Hotkey) on. You would just set one or the other Mapped Keys (between AOE and single) to be off initially.
With the Pro Config we generally suggest just using a different Hotkey for single vs AOE. With the right hotkeys, I find it easier to keep track of this way ;)

But then you have to have a way to toggle between the two of them. If there is a way to do that through the wizard I've been doing my setup wrong for years.
Example of my toggle keymap:
IWT Toggle - this one turns CTM off and on respectively for all followers.
Range follow - this one turns on a special follow for range to follow melee or to follow the current lead if off.
Camera toggle - This one iterates over the 5 camera position options alerting the user which is currently active.
Toggle DPS - The AoE / ST toggle.
Toggle local ATK - This one turns off and on the keymap for the lead if you want to spam the key for other windows but take no action on the lead.
Toggle combat follow - This one is more elaborate but basically uses a /stopmacro macro written in isboxer to follow the lead if no harm targets are within reach to attack. This fixes an issue with IWT spam where the melee would run off headless.
Some of that stuff might be very specific to my setup but maybe not. Then I just use a small menu as a dashboard to tell me which option is on or off. I use those wow icons for PvP ranks. Green is on, red is off.
But then you have to have a way to toggle between the two of them
You literally quoted my brief explanation of how to toggle between the two of them, by using the Mapped Key Wizard's "Key Map Toggler" option.

Nice! Is this relatively new? I haven't done much with my configuration lately.
Yes fairly recent. The "Key Map Toggler" was added to the Mapped Key Wizard in ISBoxer 40.2.0425.1 (notes (http://www.lavishsoft.com/release/isboxer/v/40.2.0425.1)) so April 25th

Nice to know. I wonder though..
With mine I have a menu setup as a dashboard so I can recall the current state of all my toggles. Easy to see if something is toggled incorrectly ahead of doing something.
It would be a lot of work but perhaps some logic could be put into making a default toggles menu and have the wizard automatically bump the menu config when a new keymap is made with a menu key enabled? I could see a small sub menu on the wizard panel that lets you check if it is a menu toggle and if so, what the default image is for step 1 and then step 2.

Coming back after WoTLK ISBoxer has gone through a lot of changes. (All for the better.)
It took me a night or two of bashing my head in getting around things.
For example, the wizard is totally different then when I use it last. Prior, as it would set up all your hotkeys (123456 etc). Now, you have put them ninto the wizard. I didn't know that you could simply enter in all your keys one after the other and it would create them.
Little things can add up to a lot of time, and without a bit of hand holding can ruin someones experience for multiboxing.
