View Full Version : Toons spinning round and round

Hi Everyone,
I finally figured out my run-away toons problem from having auto-run bound to keys, but I'm still having one problem that I just can't figure out. Every now and then, one or more of my following toons will just start endlessly turning in circles. Sometimes this will happen all on it's own and I look into one of my secondary windows and just see them spinning around. Sometimes, it doesn't happen until I click onto one of the other windows, like to accept a quest or something. As soon as I do, they start spinning. When it happens, it sometimes happens to all the other instances, but not always.
It's easy to get out of, I just click on the key for turning whatever direction they are turning, but I still don't understand what causes it. I've been playing WoW for three years now and changing my movement keys (left, right, strafe, etc...) is something so fundamental to me that I don't want to make a change.
Any ideas? Do all you play with just the mouse for movement?

Your best bet is to probably use the white list for your do not pass keys instead of a black list. This way you tell very specifically what keys you want to go through.
Most likely what is happening, is you are pressing shift, or ctrl or alt + a movement key. This will cause the behavior you specify (at least, I know it did for me). I switched to using white list and haven't had the issue since.
Forgot to add the alternative if you're not down with white list. If you stick with black list, you'll have to add every combination of the aforementioned modifier keys (shift + left, shift + right, ctrl + left, etc). Imo this ends up bloating the list a bit much, and at some point you end up having more keys black listed then not.

@Dinkydau
this would be like the run-aways.. but instead of forward, you have rotate
as it happens, try to figure out if your mouse has nudged over to another window...
as the mouse moves over the other window.. it could change the active window.. leaving the other window with a 'left arrow down'... but no 'left arrow up'
i believe i have a solution and will be working it this weekend
(of course, if you mouse drive you don't run into this problem)

I've seen a similar issue were i have follow mouse focus turned on in keyclone and moving my mouse to another WOW window the character will just start spinning. Doesn't always happen but pretty often. After that its like there is a barrier around that WOW windows and i will be unable to move the mouse within it until i relaunch that instance of wow.

Yep, I experienced the very same thing the first time I tried using the mouse focus. I'm waiting for the next build before trying that again.

experienced this when I didn't pass wasd but did pass SHIFT-wasd. etc.
Stopped when I blacklisted all modifiers for me.

This used to happen to me all the time. Haven't had a prob since I made all the keys I use white-list instead of doing a black-list :)

What do you mean between white list and black list?
The only lists I can remember off the top of my head (I'm at work) are DNP list and the RR keys. I believe I added all of my various Shift/CTRL/ALT movement keys to the DNP list, but I guess I need to go back and double check it.

I've also experienced this.. either run aways or spinners.. My theory
right now is that it's based on how you release the modifier keys
(alt/ctrl/shift). If you release them before you let go of the regular
key, they will get stuck.. if you let go of the letter/number key first
then release the modifier, it should be ok. In the heat of gameplay
it's hard to keep track of that stuff though :)

If i remember right
Keys presses that will be passed to other instances of WOW (white list)
Keys presses that will not be sent to other instances of WOW (black list)
I think Octopus references them Whitelist/blacklist in setup
