LG just released (or is about to release in some regions) the 34UM95 34" (3440x1440) large format 21:9 monitor... and this thing is f'ing sexy.

Wow, that is amazing.

As someone who is still on a single monitor setup, I could only dream of having a couple of those and being surrounded by screen space.

As you said tho, the price is pushing it... That figure puts it at about 80% of my PC cost... :-/

In spite of my willingness to sink thousands into my computer at upgrade time, I won't do that for monitors, lol.

Another thing is I have 3 27 inchers (<300 apiece ) and its almost (if not quite) too wide. I suppose you could sit further back, though.

I suppose you could just get a single huge monitor like this (and that might be nice) having multiple screen's is nice, for organizational purposes.

Isn't it weird that I'm like 'thats too expensive' when I immediately admit to spending 900 dollars on the monitors I have?

I would say unfortunately, it only works with the New Mac Pros via Thunderbolt. I mean, come on!!!!!!!!

Oh sorry, there are other links on that site to different version, I just freaked out when I saw Mac Only.

It looks amazing.

Asus is releasing the first ROG monitor "Republic of Gamers" very soon aswell.
It is a TN panel though, so if you can't live with that, I guess this LG monitor is very tasty.

The reason I would choose the Asus is because of the 144hz and 1ms GTG with a 2560 x 1440 resolution, on a 27" monitor with G-sync (only applies to Nvidia users). Also it is perfectly designed for additional monitors due to its very slim design.
That would just be an epic gaming expirience.

2 weeks ago my good old samsung broke after 5 years and I went out to buy a new monitor. Was tempted to buy the little brother (34Um65 (http://www.vandenborre.be/pc-scherm/lg-34um65)), but seeing it in the store made me wonder how in the world I had to put that on my desk, alongside my other monitors. I kinda like the 45 degree setup of my 27'' monitors. Didn't seem that comfortable at all to me, and that was only the smaller one.

Damn, I went out and got this: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ultrasharp-32-up3214q-review,3744.html (Dell UltraSharp 32 Ultra HD Monitor)
On sale for $2200 at microcenter. I saw the LG there, it seemed really wide in person, and they didn't have them in stock.

It's nuts. I had 4x D3's at 1920x1080, all tiled.

Runs at 60hz with displayport 1.2 at 3840x2160. At first it was only running at 30mhz, I just had to change a setting on the monitor's control panel to make the port use Displayport 1.2 to get it to 60Hz thankfully.

Doubt I will need to upgrade anytime soon. And for $1200 seems a good enough deal.

That monitor looks sweet.

The Samsung 305T (a 30.5" widescreen) was over a $1000, and this one looks even better.
I'm using a pair of 27" Samsung ~$300 each, at the moment.

You've swapped your links with the labeled prices, but your first link is for a 34UM65 which is the 2560x1080 version of their 21:9 monitor.

I have the 34" and (2)20" set in portrait mode on either side. Have a spare 24" and a 20" id like to implement soon.
Checked out Ergotron (http://www.ergotron.com/Products/MultiMonitorMounts/tabid/159/Default.aspx) , probably other places for multi monitor setups.
Better yet.... 9Xmedia (http://9xmedia.com/new/products/xtops.php#)

I've already got all the monitor arms I could use, but I'm maybe thinking of something like this:

1339
Those side panels are 2560x1080 and I was really wanting some 2560x1440 panels on the side because when a 1080 monitor is in portrait you're really limited to how many tabs you can jam into the browser, but I can't seem to find any quality 1440 IPS panels that don't have a thick nasty bezel on them.

Since the monitor upgrade I'm on the edge of running out of VRAM on my GPUs and I either need another monitor to split the load, drop my settings way down, or get a set of GPUs with more than 3GB of VRAM. I'd really like to hold out until the next set of Titans come out since they're rumored for Q4'14 and then jump on those, but who knows if that is true or not.

I just bought a 55" Sony 4k

http://www.amazon.com/Sony-XBR55X850B-55-Inch-Ultra-120Hz/dp/B00J58F0IA/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1414137755&sr=1-1&keywords=4k+sony

By far worth the money. 60 FPS/Hz at 4k. I dont play many FPS, but MMO wise its been amazing. CNET had it rated as the best 4k large screen out there for gaming.

Frankly I am thinking of getting the 49" as its almost too big.

For the 55" Sony, it support HDMI 2.0 - but no displayport, so you need a HDMI 2.0 video card - which means the latest gen - like the GTX 970/980.

Otherwise you'll have to use 4k at 30Hz, which absolutely sucks for games. I already have a 4k Dell 32" monitor and at 30Hz it's horrible. I figured out how to use DP to get it to 60Hz and it's pretty sweet. I use it on my mac now.

Nothing to do with the monitor itself but I'm laughing my ass off at their comparison between their "60Hz refresh rate vs other monitors' 30Hz refresh rate." LMAO.

28" is really small. Even the 32" dell was way too small (for me) to take advantage of the 4k resolution. Everything was so tiny. Then you upscale in windows and the text is all screwed up on all your windows etc... So I use it on my mac, and it works great.

I wasn't really wanting the 4k thing, just trying to keep it within somewhat of a budget. A couple of samsung 32" in portrait may be ok
along wth the LG34"

If you're multiboxing a lot, I'm not sure if 5 or more game instances will run at @4k resolution with decent FPS, supposedly for some games multiple GTX 970's/980's are required just to run one client at 60 fps.
I had http://www.asus.com/us/Monitors/ROG_SWIFT_PG278Q/ in mind, GSYNC seems to be really cool, but it only activates in Fullscreen mode, so not its useful with Isboxer.

My thoughts on TVs haven't changed much since I last posted about them (http://www.dual-boxing.com/threads/48243-A-few-questions-about-using-a-TV-as-a-monitor?p=370767&viewfull=1#post370767), but if you read the old post then you'll learn the importance of 4:4:4 Chroma Subsampling.

As you mentioned, most TVs (and even some monitors still) are only going to give you 30Hz @ 4K because of some hardware limitations, but a recent thread on Anandtech (http://forums.anandtech.com/showpost.php?p=36774196&postcount=8) pointed out that there is an LG TV that will do 60Hz over HDMI and is 4:4:4 CS compatible. Now that I know that, that television (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00II6VY2G/) has been on my list for things I still need to purchase to finish furnishing my new apartment, but since I watch close to zero television I'm in no hurry to buy one.

However, if someone really wanted to use a television as a computer monitor I'd point them at that one assuming they had a video card capable of driving 4K @ 60Hz.

I remember hearing about your 4K experience in Windows just a few months ago on IRC, and that played a large part in the decision of my most recent purchase. I had also dealt with Windows DPI/GUI scaling before and, personally, I think it looks terrible -- Hopefully Microsoft is going to do a better job in Windows 10, but who knows. Inner Space also has some compatibility issues with the medium (125%) and larger (150%) settings that I didn't want to deal with either.

I had also heard so many good things about IPS panels and I had a chance to test one out about a month ago, and I loved it -- Vibrant colors and fantastic viewing angles made such a difference over basic TN panels. Even as I sit here typing out this reply on a TN panel, the terrible viewing angles are so apparent now that I've got a gigantic IPS panel sitting right next to it that doesn't suffer from the same issues. Since I knew that there were no affordable 4K IPS panels I figured that was pretty much the nail in the coffin for what I was going to spend my money on, and even if I wanted to drop a ton of money on one it wouldn't be made for gaming so it would probably have a high refresh rate. And while I would be able to keep the nice 16:9 aspect ratio for ease of video creation and YouTube compatibility if I went with 4K, I knew that another TN panel was just something I wanted to move away from.

Now, of course, the ultra-wide 21:9 resolution on the new LG forces me to get creative when I create a Window Layout in ISBoxer, but I honestly don't see it as a big deal.

1343

The new layout fits in a 2560x1440 viewing area which allows me to save on some GPU load since WoD brings more of a requirement to multibox now, but I also get to stick with the 16:9 aspect ratio and create 2560x1440 videos for YouTube. So, hopefully starting with the next video I can begin catering to the 1440 crowd as well. ;) Otherwise, if I was to record across the entire screen I'd have video that looked something like this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ZZ_Mv7FeXQ) (watch in fullscreen at your monitor's native resolution if you're interested) -- Which I'd say is tolerable, but I think people would want to be able to see more up close.

If we're talking about WoW, I doubt you'd be able to run more than two instances off of a single GPU at higher-than-the-lowest-possible preset with a decent FPS. You'd likely have to have three or four 980s each attached to their own monitor and powering a single instance of the game if you wanted to play at decent settings/framerats, but that's just a guess.

My trusty IBM Radial Arms (http://www.amazon.com/IBM-19K4464-NetVista-Discontinued-Manufacturer/dp/B00006HNLT/). ErgoDirect makes what seems to be a direct replacement (http://www.ergodirect.com/product_info.php?products_id=15714), but sometimes you can find the radial arms cheap on eBay. You're also going to need a 75mm VESA mounting plate (https://www.elvessupply.com/Innovative-Office-Products-7VESASTAR175-603-75Mm100Mm-Vesa-Plate-Vendor-Pays-For-All-Ground-Shipments_p_1144177.html) if you're going with that particular model.
