View Full Version : [WoW] TheOlz YouTube Multiboxing Videos

Hey all,

I have started to make some YouTube movies of my 5 man dungeon teams. I've posted a couple, which I added to The Commons, but I am probably going to post a bunch and I don't want to spam them all in there.

I'll post my new movies in this thread, if anyone wants to check them out.

I'm pretty new to multiboxing, and brand new to screen capturing so don't expect the best quality, but I'm working on it.

I'll actually try to do some commentary on the ones I do in the future too.

Thanks!

5 Monk Team in Blackrock Caverns

I have a macro problem in the first half of this dungeon, and one WW isn't attacking properly, but I fix it before the 2nd boss.

5 Monk Team in Stormstout Brewery

First MoP dungeon with this team, mostly in vendor and quest greens, with a blue weapon for all of them from the AH.
I've actually never really run MoP dungeons without being way overpowered (ie farming heroics in raid epics), so I don't even know some of the boss mechanics properly. So this is a bit of a learning experience for me too!

I have done some commentary on this one. I had no idea what to talk about, so I just rambled and babbled on about WoW and multiboxing. I hope that if I do more I can be a bit less nervous and make a bit more sense.

I like it. The only issue I had was the fact that the volume was low, and when there was a fight the game sound was a bit too high and ended up kinda drowning out your voice.

I am going to try to do some more, and will mess around with the sound settings.

Might have to try recording game sound in Fraps and my commentary in Audacity, then combining them, so I can play with the levels a bit.

Thanks heaps MiRai, dude.
Your movies were a deciding factor for me to start boxing, be great if I can encourage someone who is on the fence to jump into it too!

I like ur idea m8 :) this forum needs some movies even though it's just to show some fun, u know anything goes to my morning coffee :)
Also you can make it more interresting if you throw on some music, you can find some "free to use" that are quite good, forexample at newgrounds.com, its an old site, but it's just an example.

In the videos where I put myself on camera, the audio is recorded separately so that I can adjust everything as needed.

Very cool. :)

I will say that it's difficult to be interesting all of the time, but I think as long as you stick to talking about the game and/or multiboxing, then everything should be fine. It's when people start to veer off into their personal lives or start talking about things that happened to them earlier in the week that nobody cares about is when I really start to tune people out and eventually just shut the video off. I don't want to sound like a dick, but if I watch that video a year after that person made it, all of that personal life crap doesn't mean anything anymore -- It's useless banter -- But if you're talking about the game and multiboxing, even if it changes a year later, it would still have something to do with the video that was being viewed.

Also, if you plan on doing this regularly, then you should probably throw some type of watermark(s) into the video somewhere so that other people can't "steal" them as easily. You can usually search for 'multiboxing' on YouTube, sort by upload date, and you typically find many videos that have been ripped and then re-uploaded to help advertise other multiboxing software (not naming any names).

Advice taken on board, thank you very much!

I hadn't considered that people would steal movies, so I will find some way to add a watermark or overlay to future movies.

Think I'm going to try taking my Monk's through TJS later today, so I will try to record that. Think I have software that will allow me to record fullscreen now, so my slaves will be on the screen too!

Random dungeon refused to give me TJS last night, got 3 Stormstout's in a row, so here's another movie of that.

I like your TJS video. Volume was a bit low, but I read your notes, saying you were tired:)

Haven't seen the others yet, but I'm sure I will later on. Thanks.

Thanks Damons. Appreciate the feedback, and yeah it was late and I was very tired when I recorded that one.

I will be recording some new movies this week, I upgraded my video card so no more 15fps!
Back to decent settings and 30fps!

I'm also going to start using the proper condensor mic that I have, instead of my old Razer Starcraft headset, that I've been using thus far, so hopefully they'll sound a little better too!

I was curious how you were going to approach Scarlet Halls and you mention that you normally have trouble with that first encounter on your non-Monk teams (due to the other teams not being able to roll like the Monks). A lot of people have said that they also have issues on that first fight, but I think I'm going to have to put out a video on Scarlet Halls to show how I tackle it. Unfortunately, it's so late in the expansion and, unfortunately it would only be from the viewpoint of the dungeon's introductory level since I don't have a team at level 90 at the moment. I don't think there are many differences between the two versions of the dungeon minus the increased damage from the enemies and the fact that Blades of Light seems to be used more often in the heroic version.

I also thought there was going to be a wipe after your team jumped down after Herod's replacement (Armsmaster Harlan -- Had to look that up).

TheOlz

I'd like to see that MiRai, even if it's just normal mode.

Anyone who's watched these so far, I appreciate it!

I also have a few other clips I haven't posted here on my YouTube channel, some levelling of a new team in BC and Wrath normal dungeons.

You've probably realised I'm not going for anything fancy or special in terms of editing. (Quantity over quality! haha!) I just wanted to fill a bit of a void on YouTube in terms of PvE multiboxing, there is a heap of PvP stuff out there, but dungeons, raids and levelling content movies are few and far between (almost all from the same person too!).

So, even though I have almost finished with the Monk Heroic's, now that I've started recording, I don't want to stop! There will be plenty other stuff posted on my channel, and I'll still post highlights here and in the Commons.

And, lastly, feedback is always appreciated. (Unless you're going to ask me to edit my clips! I lack those skills!)

I'm watching these slowly, but surely -- Normally when I get free time like when I'm eating or something. Today, I was on the edge of my seat in suspense during the Brother Korloff fight waiting to see if one (or more) of the Monks were going to die. :)

Nice work Olz, looks like fun. Not sure you've tried it, but running groups of toons in LFR is a lot of fun as well.

TheOlz
05-13-2014, 05:41 PM
Thanks Mercurio, I haven't tried any LFR yet. I wanted to make sure I was at least reasonably functioning as a group before I start interacting with others too much. I think I am ready with my Monks now though.

For anyone watching my Monk vids, I have figured out GSS and will have that vid up either today or tomorrow. (Depends if I get it in random dungeon now that I am locked for today)

Got my guild the Guild Pandaria Dungeon Hero achievement! :) *proud*

Well, here is the last Heroic with my Panda Monk team, pretty happy that I've run through all of them now.

Moving onto a more traditional team next, to keep this "project" going.

5 Monks in Gate of the Setting Sun (H)

I mention it in the video, but I had a fair bit of trouble coordinating my team for the last boss in here. Now that I've done it, I don't know what I was thinking before, it's nowhere near as hard as I was making it for myself.

Again, thanks to those who watched this series. More fun to come! :D

One note for you about LFR - if people get realize that you are a multiboxer, some of them will start to get pissy and may start a campaign to kick your toons. Having said that, I've been absolutely amazed at how few times anyone has said anything about my guys in LFR, and if I'm going in, I'm typically brining 6-8 guys at once.

I think the key is having a decent knowledge of the fights (I started with only 3-4 at once until I figured them out), but mainly that I have completely unique names for all my characters. Having lots of very similar names is a dead give away that you are boxing and the uninitiated will think that if you are boxing, you have to suck.

All that is to say that if you are starting in on a mixed team (which I think is a lot more fun) and have the ability to have completely different names, I would highly recommend it.

TheOlz
05-17-2014, 08:18 AM
I have a number of mixed teams also, the monks are the only at 90 so far. Have another 5 teams between 85 and 90.

I feel now that I have made a mistake in keeping a standard naming convention with all my teams and really should have mixed it up.

All my toon names start with Kraa... then something I use to identify them, usually 1-5 in some language (like the Monks being Japanese). So even if I were to mix and match I would have things like "Kraaone" (eng), "Kraani" (jap), "Kraadrei" (german), "Kraasuh" (chinese), etc... Might have to think about some name changes in the future to avoid being so easily identified as a boxer. :-/

I'm using some new software for video/audio editing, far superior to Windows Movie Maker! (Compiling/encoding really, I'm not much of an editor)

I think it looks and sounds a lot better than my previous ones, I've removed some of the background noise from the audio and I have a new/better overlay (blocking the irrelevant chat window), rather than just my channel address popping up every few minutes.

Also, special internet bonus friend points for anyone who knows (off the top of their head) where I got the WOW logo I am using in my overlay from. :D

Warrior, Priest, 3x Shaman in Stormstout Brewery

Wanted to show a SSB run on a normal team that can't just brute force and passive dps-heal through just about all mechanics.

Note: Whilst 5.4.8 is patching as I post this, this was recorded in 5.4.7, not that I think anything would be different anyway.

First time I have included music in a recording, I explain why at the start of the clip, but I was really tired and wasn't talking a whole lot.
If you don't like the music, my apologies, I haven't used music in past videos and don't plan on making it a regular occurrence.

Completely off the topic of Multiboxing and WoW, but I have started to upload some Hearthstone videos to my channel too. (Playlist (http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLb9el0cEvCqhyltQ4azqhAnya-fH_C_vG))
I won't post them here or probably even mention them on this site again, as the are off topic, but I just wanted to share for anyone who may be interested. It's just my attempted climb through the rankings, usually between 1 and 3 matches at a time.

Back on topic, I'm going to try to get this Warrior, Priest, Shaman team through at least one more dungeon tonight, so that will be posted soon too!

Warrior, Priest, 3x Shaman in Mogu'shan Palace

The strategy I used for the last boss on my Monk team fell apart completely and utterly with this team, so it took me a few attempts to figure out the way to get him down. Well, it's figured now, so here goes!

Also, video is longer - I added about 10 mins to the end of the dungeon run to discuss something I'd mentioned during the run. There's a clear point where you can switch off, if you are only interested in the dungeon run itself.

5 Monk Team in Blackwing Descent (Raid)

Had an epic journey through Blackwing Descent last night, trying to get Nefarian's head on a stick... (I swear I've done that before?! ;P )

I've never run BWD before, I knew none of the mechanics and decided to keep it that way and try to figure it out for myself. I guess, like a bleeding edge progression raider would do. I spent about 4 hours in there and managed to get every boss down with the unfortunate exception of Lord Victor himself.

I collected the successful boss attempts into this video, I comment on my previous attempts and number of wipes, etc. and kind of think (out loud) my way through the mechanics and what I want to try next.

I don't know if this is all that enjoyable for anyone else to watch, because the mechanics are known or easily found online, but for me, it was a whole bunch of fun to kind of just do it all myself.

Have you thought about trying to situate your team on one of the posts that raise before the phase even starts. Maybe as you run around drop a jade statue on top of each post as well. Might help with heals and such. Cause you would start on one of the posts to begin with instead of swimming to it. Then you can renew everyone and possibly swim to it. Without taking lots of damage. Or put a toon on each post and just disable keymaps so all you need to do is down each add with your tank and you can always self heal your others and let them take add damage. It might work that way not sure. Its just having to drop each toon off at a post before phase two starts.

TheOlz
06-08-2014, 01:08 PM
That's a good thought, and I also think I should have used my Fortifying Brew whenever I need to move through the lava too.

Well, this week I managed to 1 shot all the bosses I did last week, so hopefully next week I'll give it another go and get a much better strategy for Nef too!

5 Monks in 5 Karazhan's at Once

Still trying to get my hands on the Fiery Warhorse's Reins. Just about the whole time I've been subbed and playing WoW, since BC, I've tried to get this mount.
Numerous runs when it was current content, numerous solo runs at 80 and now back in there at 90.

So I'm only killing the 1st boss and thought for fun I'd try running all the Monks in separate instances at one time using broadcasting... It sort of works :)
