This guys youtube page has helped sell me on Wildstar. I already knew i liked the game from playing in the last two beta weekends, but the game has so much to it that it can be overwhelming! His videos cleared a lot of things up for me AND got me even more excited for the games release! For example, in most MMOs that have housing.. it can be kind of "bla" to me.. EQ2s was the best for me.. it was very useful. But this game is taking Housing to a whole other level.. and rather than try to explain it.. its a good place to start, even if you think you don't care about housing.. im willing to bet you will like what Wildstar is doing with it!

Housing

This game is boxable BTW.. I dont think it will be easy to box dungeons..but there will be the same benefits to boxing world PvE ( maybe even PvP )..even if its just to get rich or support a main toon raider.. if you watch his videos, you can imagine why. For example.. having 5+ toons with houses. Even solo players will have incentive to create alts just so they can have access to more shit you can put on a housing plot. ( he is not a boxer btw )

A very generous offer and I may take you up on it if I decide to box it. I currently only have one license and will wait until closer to launch to make a decision on whether to box it or not.

keep an eye out on the wildstar site.. almost every week there is a weekend beta key give away going on.. so you can try to box it for free. Ebony tried it for free, but didn't like it. But I think when more boxers try it and get it working as well as i have, it will win more people over.. its very boxable.. almost as easy as WoW IMO, as far as controlling characters. World PvE and PvE will be easy to box.. dungons/raids might be very challenging due to the heavy use of movement mechanics. Im sure someone will figure out a way to conquer harder content though. You just have to give it a chance..tweak keymaps and such.

I grabbed two beta keys for the next Wildstar Beta (this weekend).

Can hopefully get a few hours to check it out (between toddler and 6 month old...don't have two kids, one is easy but two is a killer!)

Any quick tips on ISBoxer setup?

I'm single-boxing WildStar currently. I would expect that you could set up ISBoxer using the "WoW" choice in the setup wizard. Dual-boxing should be easy at lower levels (Less than 15) and become enormously difficult at 15 and above because of the necessity to be constantly moving, and I don't think /follow will successfully move the slave out of danger.

Definitely just select "Other" because it is not WoW and it doesn't make sense to apply the WoW-specific options to WildStar (e.g. Config.WTF, WoW macros, etc). It will still use the MMO-Standard config style by default.

Any ideas on ways to mitigate this? My experience is almost entirely with mmos requiring little to no movement, but perhaps action rpg (eg. D3) boxers have ideas?

Yeah, I was also curious if this was even possible to play in PVP, since it looke like you need to be facing not targeting

I don't think auto facing works in PvP, it works great in PvE..but before i knew you could auto face and interact with target..i had no issues keeping mobs in my "telegraphs", and most heals are less facing and more "be in the big square area to get healed", so Im sure you can make it work in PvP as well, even without auto facing. And the area dps telegraphs cover is often large enough for some forgiveness, if your not exactly facing a target. ( as long as they dont jump on the "disable /follow in BGs band wagon)

Pretty easy to get two characters set up and it seems quite boxing friendly. I couldn't find any slash commands to set targets in macros though, is there no /target?

Getting characters out of the way of telegraphs could become a problem though.

Quite a fun game and I am considering a duo in Wildstar as ESO slowly unravels through bugs and dupes.

There is not. But there is an add-on, appropriately called SlashTarget, that adds that functionality. It's probably the first of many multiboxer-friendly add-ons that I expect will make their way into the game.

As for the heavy focus on constant movement, I think it'll be manageable in PvE to a reasonable extent; especially if you're comfortable strafing your leader and followers separately--or in tandem. And, of course, there are always classic threat mechanics to take advantage of to keep your slaves safe. But from what I've seen of Dungeons and PvP (holy AoE, Batman!), multiboxing will probably be one hell of an exercise in frustration.

There were many 5 man quest mobs/bosses that were easy enough to hold agro..i would set my alt toons in some sort of formation and do my best to keep the mob angry at my tank.. worked pretty well. Since the level cap is only 20.. it will be hard to know how effective that will be in the end game areas.

Good to know, the /target seemed to be the only thing I missed for creating an easy boxing setup.

I could see myself two boxing Wildstar. It is a lot of fun but I prefer Elder Scrolls Online atmosphere, it is more relaxing compared to Wildstar's frenetic over-saturated chaos. Wildstar does seem to be a very well designed game with lots of systems already in place such as the secondary professions as explorer scientist etc. ESO seems to need a bit of work in that department.

I like that Wildstar will start with housing as well

Is there small group content yet or is it full group or solo only?

EDIT: 2 x Wildstar standard edition purchased with GreenManGaming 25% off!

Other than tons elite mobs that have been added in last patch ( meant for 2-5 players ) There are also "Shiphand missions" that are instanced quest zones that scale with group size. There are lots of them starting at around level 13..they are repeatable. I had an epic drop off a trash mob in one.

The last patch changed exp in open world to "encourage" grouping.. they upped the exp for groups and added the elite mobs for that reason.

That is good news. This game really seems to be shipping with a lot of features whereas you often have to wait for small group content. I can't attest to howbuggy the game is as I haven't played enough but it does have the features there.

Now that I pre-ordered I am automatically in the remaining beta weekends. I'll probably use the time to perfect an ISBoxer config before release. I am thinking of setting up forward/backwards/strafe on the arrow keys for the companion character. That way I can move them out of the way from telegraphs. Or maybe tie those keys to dodges.
Does dodge use a resource in this game? I know ESO uses stamina to dodge which makes it worthless as you want the stamina for attacks/blocking.

What about the secondary professions (paths)? It would be easier to have each toon on the same path but on different paths would provide more abilities.

There is a "bonus" beta weekend this weekend..its not on the scheduled, they announced it in the forums. Open beta is soon as well.

I highly recommend you check out the links in my OP ( if you haven't already )..the guy has videos about every feature in the game, and they will get you excited. The double tap dodge has its own resource, you have two charges.. so you can dodge in any direction two times back to back, then you have to wait for the charges to regenerate... 10+ seconds per charge i think. It works a lot like chi roll for monks in WoW, accept you can do it in any direction.

For paths.. i chose soldier paths on all my guys for simplicity sake. They seem to take place right in the mix of the mobs your questing. I have also tried explorer..and if i were to solo.. that's what I would take. Have not tried any others though. Explorer has you go off the beaten path a lot..which is fun..but it has you climbing high cliffs and mountains...and has you using the "double jump" feature a lot..it would be hard to manage more than a few toons i think. Soldier path is all about fighting. But if your in no hurry, i think choosing more than one path would be most beneficial.. but im sure it will slow down your over all progress quit a bit, as each path has a TON of content. IF you have the patience though.. that would be best long term im guessing.

As far as buggyness/performance. They are smashing bugs fast..this last patch added a bunch..as to be expected..they added a a ton of content and a new UI..but they are very active on the forums and seem to address this stuff asap. Thats why they have had a few unscheduled beta weekends.. to make sure they plenty of time testing in high population situations.

My PC is almost 3 years old now. It has 16GB a ram..580gtx 3gb video..2700k i7 etc.. ATM its very hard to run 5 accounts in high pop areas ( everything turned to low ).. i can run 3 fine. I will be upgrading asap.

Watched all Fevir's primer vids. Great source of information and the amount of features this game is shipping with is amazing, very very cool!

I can't find the /target addon, I did a search and had a look through Curse...

Going to jump in game now and try a couple of different classes.
I had thought of Engineer + Medic but then learnt that Medic is actually close/medium range so I might choose a different healer.

i just got home and am patching. I am going to try eng+spellslingers and eng+epers. Eng is a ranged tank and both the SS and Esper can be heals and are also ranged. I think Medics would work well with Stalker or warrior.

There has never been a game launch with this much content..the real test will be how often they can bring out new content after live.

Im going to get Mumble going and ill be on that tomorrow if you want to chat about Wildstar!

Sorry for the two separate posts back to back.. had a brain fart!

I heard spellslinger is very movement based so went eng + esper. Will save medic for warrior duo as you said.

I found the in-game follow - it is in the bottom right corner pop-up menu under Non-Combat Abilities. There is a bunch of things in there like interact and the dodges. Very handy. Those abilities can be dragged out and placed on the secondary bars that can be set (ESC --> HUD and then enable Left and Right Secondary bars)

Yea.. i did not know about those. nice!.. BUt i have been using macros and have my team working well.. they assist.. face and move to targets ect.. good stuff

No I don't think it really helps having the in game shortcuts as I already setup a macro as you said. Also set up an interact key through ISBoxer so that followers assist the main on an F key press and then press F - that makes questing much easier.

Next is a round robin on the knock downs and interrupts, pretty standard stuff.

I need to get better at avoiding telegraphs on the followers though...

The atmosphere is really growing on me. They have put so much time in to fleshing out the world, I spend a lot of time just wandering around looking at things :)

Well my play testing is over and back to work :(

I gotta say that two boxing at least looks very easy for this game. I set up hotkeys to dodge the following character sideways which really helped with the telegraphs and along with the auto-face target setting things were good.

Big big problem is though that I often lose the mouse in combat, it is so small and there is so much colour going on in a fight that the mouse just blends in.

How did you make out Lyonheart?

Lyonheart
04-27-2014, 08:17 PM
I played spellslingers and espers.. i like them both. I wanted to try them to help me figure out what kind of team i will make ( healers ).. i might end up with a mixed group.. but Tank and 4 SSs or Espers might work good. At 15 SS get an ability that does dos to mobs in the telegraph and heals players in it.. so one button to do both is great.. in theory. I will level them more next time.

pox67
04-27-2014, 08:36 PM
Did you find the Spellslingers more positional based compared to Espers?
I read that somewhere. The Esper as a class didn't really grab me and I would prefer Spellslinger I think.

I really enjoyed the Engineer I tried, I liked having the bot that could hold agro for a few seconds. Engineers just felt a bit different from the usual MMORPG classes.

Next I'll try a melee tank and Medic healer.

Espers are supposedly the closest thing to a priest (so a lot of people who like traditional healers try them) but then they have a very slow combo point building move.

To me combo points and casters are a terrible clunky combination.

Fortunately rapidfire shooting or a slow aimed shot is more my style so my first toon at launch is going to be a spellslinger.

Im thinking Spellslingers might be great for boxing as well.. at level 15 they get a spell that does damage to enemies in the telegraph and heals allies in it. So it might work out to be a great boxer friendly healing/dps class. I Believe that Espers are the only class with "targeted heals" though
