View Full Version : Multiboxing Stress Test!

You may or may not remember my old 20 and 30-boxing stress tests from back in the day, but with my recent upgrade in hardware, I figured it was time to do it again.

Maybe I'll get around to some stress testing with a useful amount of clients. ;)
I felt this belonged in the hardware sub-forum rather than the movie sub-forum since it was mainly about stressing my systems's hardware.

Nice video. Just saying as you probably didn't notice: @2:00 you have a couple of holes in your jeans, right above your knee. If you need any info on how to stitch them, let me know!.

Hey, listen... I pay good money to look like a homeless person.

That was probably what was next on the list, but it might take some time before I get around to doing it.

MiRai is it possible to split the load if i have a GTX 690? The GPU has two GPU's built in and i know when i run any overclocking software only one of the GPU's is being utilized at any one time. A waste of a good graphics card and i just replaced the card with a GTX 780 so it is just sittin on my shelf now lol.

CPU is weaksauce and can't handle it. Probably going to need 12 cores @ > 3GHz if you expect to run Ultra x10. This is the best I could do with a quick attempt:
http://i2.minus.com/i8Xq51l2H0ihE.jpg
Left/Right:
x4 Clients Each (DX9)
Good Preset w/ 2x MSAA (Low Water/Ground Clutter)
Fore/Background FPS: 60/20
Middle:
x2 Clients (DX11)
Ultra Preset w/ 2x MSAA (Low Water/Ground Clutter)
Fore/Background FPS: 60/20
Each monitor is being powered by it's own GPU and I'm using a custom CPU affinity assignment. I don't really like the ground being cluttered with foliage (not that it matters in the Trade District) nor do I really like the unpredictable load that the new water generates, so I set both of those to low.
The CPU only shows that it's at about 70%, but you'd never want to be running at 100% because that's where things normally start to bottleneck and cause stuttering. So, I essentially left ~30% of the CPU free (for now) for any loading of textures or the ridiculous amount of spell effects that could occur in a large-scale battle.
You could always drop the slave FPS down to 15 or 10 to free up some more CPU, or even get rid of their anti-aliasing and then crank up the main two clients to 4x or something -- This is where it comes down to what you (or whoever else) prefer as video settings, but the hardest hitters are Texture Resolution, Shadows, and View Distance.
MiRai is it possible to split the load if i have a GTX 690?
Dual-GPU card or not, I don't see why there would be an issue. If you were wanting to split the load between the two GPUs on the 690 then that isn't possible.
The GPU has two GPU's built in and i know when i run any overclocking software only one of the GPU's is being utilized at any one time.
The only time SLI wouldn't work in a game is if the game didn't have a profile for it (which is fairly rare these days and can sometimes be forced on), but the only thing that controls whether SLI is enabled or not is the setting in the nVidia control panel. I don't know what overclocking software you're using that shows only one GPU active, but I imagine either SLI is disabled or... you're reading it wrong? /shrug

How do you make ISBoxer open up a bunch of windows at once now? It always waits 1 second between windows for me and I can't drop it any lower.

You don't -- One second after each client launches is as fast as they can open up. I think it's been this way since... forever.

Don't want them to change that, startup is when I go get my coffee.

Very nice. I would play a bunch of accounts if wow was free, since I can't get myself to pay any more money to Blizz.

Im using MSI Afterburner, and through the nvidia control panel wether i have SLI enabled or disabled there is only activity on one of the GPUs on the 690. When i play battlefield 4 it utilizes both GPUs but i think it has something to do with running the 690 in windowed mode not activating SLI, and also that im only using one monitor? I dont know.

Weird I watched a video where someone popped 10 open all at same time. Could have been something other than ISBoxer, because my memory isn't that great.

Exactly! Except replace coffee with water. :)

as to the duel gpu cards there is a forum post or maybe it is in the wiki for isboxer that it will not use both chips. That's why it is recommended to get a single powerfull gpu with high ram (3 gig minimum for a serious boxer)

SLI definitely works in Windowed mode. I know this because I use it almost every day in Windowed mode; however, CrossFire does not. So, if you buy a dual-GPU AMD card for multiboxing you're going to be left feeling like you paid way too much for a single GPU.
Either way, I always recommend purchasing single GPU cards.
