So I have multiboxed many games but not yet wow. I'm looking to build a 5 man team. What I don't know is the best way to do it. Do I need to buy 5 accounts from scratch to the current expansion or is there a more financially friendly way?

There's nothing more financially friendly than buying everything while it's on sale (http://www.dual-boxing.com/threads/50239-Holiday-Deals)!

What MiRai said for sure, buy it all now. Then look at all the various RAF threads on how to best link the accounts before activating anything. Then check the Group Compilation threads for race/class combos, then check out the macro section for dps spam macros, and start questing!

Watch this video. Its OLD but whats in the video still works for todays RAF. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6YC2iP0amNI A 2nd thing to speed things up may be a level guide. I have had friends use zygor guides and I think it is set up to work with RAF

Good God that video is old. FYI to anyone who uses that to set up their WoW stuff: The part about BNet accounts and authenticators is wrong at this point in time.

And Zygor IS NOT set up to work with RAF. It assumes that you are going to do all the quests. I love Zygor and I heartily recommend it, but I've had several conversations with them about RAF and they don't have any plans to have special RAF support.

That seems odd seeing as it's in their support manual:
http://www.zygorguides.com/support/manual/referafriend.php
It says that it's currently disabled (and it seems like it has been for awhile), but they had definitely supported it in the past even if they don't currently. I have no idea if it currently works or not since I've never used Zygor to level (although I did see one of your threads on their forum ;)).

I think the problem is that Blizzard pretty much requires you to do quests in a specific order since, I don't know... Cata? So you can't pick and choose anymore. The closest thing you can do is move to a different zone. That's the answer Zygor gave me.
OTOH, the collection quests are much easier these days. Spawning automatically speeds up with multiple toons on the quest and if the quest item is collected off a corpse, generally all the party members will be able to loot the item.

One thing to add-- if you are planning to purchase digital versions through your WOW account, I believe that you must purchase the first copy and then use the RAF invites before you purchase the others. If you buy boxed copies or any version that is not linked to an account, you can purchase them before you set up RAF.

According to blizzard you have up to 30 days to link accounts. Something new they added.
http://us.battle.net/wow/en/blog/11524458/ FAQ section
Q: My friend just started playing. Can I still recruit them even if they already made an account?
A: Yes, with the new system you can recruit players who have World of Warcraft accounts that are less than 30 days old. Simply use the standard Recruit A Friend process. When your friend receives the email, clicking the link will bind your accounts for Recruit A Friend rewards and benefits (as long as the potential recruit’s account is still 30 days old or less).

The issue about guides with special RAF modes is that in the olden days a special RAF mode would automatically skip collection quests -- trying to collect 10 boar livers on all 5 toons can really be tiresome. Since Cata, though, you can't pick and choose quests in a zone. Of course you can leave a zone and start another.

I don't mind the collection quests, and a lot of the time, you kill one boar and it drops a boar liver for everyone in the party. I hate the ones with less than 100% drop rate.
I just did a set of DKs and got super annoyed at the "torture" quest, it takes an eternity do do this 5x, while every other quest is basically facroll.
I can appreciate the "breadcrumb" quests from a lore perspective, but I sure miss the old days where skipping a quest wouldn't mean that you can't progress. This is one reason why it's nice to run a team capable of using the dungeon finder, as it's a great way to level up away from questing so we can get to the next zone and pray that there aren't a ton of collection quests.

It's still got to be better than the classic Everquest approach.
Find an area with mobs that you like to kill.
Kill and kill, and kill and kill...
No quests for experience, just grind away.
Not saying there aren't any quests now.
But when I started, it was just kill things to level up.

Yeah, EQ defined monotony back in the day. Find a safe corner in a zone or cave, and pull mob after mob for something like 0.1% experience per mob. Whatever you do, don't die; even with a 96% rez you've potentially lost an hour's worth of exp.
There are still a few WOW quests where mobs will only drop an item for a single person in the party (I think there's one like that on the horde side in Azshara, collecting meat from the deer), but they're rare now and the increased exp in the older content means you can skip them nearly every time. I do wish they'd make it so picking up an item from the ground on one character would credit everyone in the party. Those are the only quests that can really slow me down (the one in Hyjal where you pick up the packs of supplies dropped on the ground is particularly annoying).

EQ: I miss the camps because on a PvP server it added a lot of flavor to the experience grind. The world was pretty much a persistent place. Instancing has destroyed that immensely.
Instancing has never been seen as favorable here. When EQ went LDoN I had basically two choices. Play WoW or play a WoW clone. I went with WoW at that point. Not that I care much for either at this point. The only joy I get out of WoW is multiboxing it.
