View Full Version : Some thoughts with Outland Instances...

So right now I am triple boxing 3 druids, all balanced spec. I group with my two friends, one who is a priest healer, the other a pally tank. So far instances around 30-40 range are going great with no troubles at all. What my friends keep bringing up is later on in Outlands we will start to have troubles controlling mobs. Now will this become a bigger problem in Heroics? (never done one yet) since my druids really have no major crowd control? Any ideas what I can do to make it easier for our group, or did I pick the wrong class? When I had my 70 pally tank on another server, any instance (shatter halls, underbog, ect) I never had my group use crowd control I was able to keep agro on me and stay alive with up to 5-6 mobs on me at a time. So this is why I don't know to much about crowd control and would love to hear your guys/gals input on what I should do with my three druids and my group.

Thanks

Yes, it will be a problem. I myself don't get into heroics, but that's because I'm an alt-aholic. Crowd control is really, really essential (think Coilfang instances) where you have no choice but to pull several mobs at once. If your healer is good and you have a pally AoE tanking, though, it might work out. Just makes sure that you burn down the pally's target ask quickly as possible since your healer is going to be working overtime.

Blizzard needs to just give up and allow roots in doors (I've played every spec of a druid, so I know the pain here). If you're not MTing or Main healing and you're a hybrid, you should have CC abilities. Period.

Anyhow, yes. It's an issue. A pally tank is some CC, but the other mechanics of this may not work out at all.

I havent done an Outlands instance with my shammies quite yet, but I dont think that any of the regular instances require CC at all. I think that as long as you roll in there at a lvl on par with the instance, you'll burn it down.

If CC was required, how would all the Pally + 4x Shammie teams be so successfull? Or straight 5x Shammy teams?

I chuckle when I see people looking for certain classes in the chat channels, mostly the dam trade channel. It's kinda sad people have the standard group set up in their head when they try to make pugs.
I know people would have more fun if they tried unusual combinations ('http://www.warcraftcinema.com/00120062001001703/15priestUBRSrun.movie?u=1').

If your having fun with your druids, keep leveling them. I'm sure you'll have no problem with instances later on

I totally disagree.

I've done all of the outlands instances on normal mode, and almost all of them on heroic mode. CC is not required! But you need to get your healer and tank geared up with a quickness, and make sure your pally tank is up on the AoE threat mechanics and how to maximize them.

But if you're only DPSin... you coudl easily setup three individual focus macros to keep targets cycloned while you burn down the others.

If you had a warrior tank then yes, you'd need CC. But you don't. :D
true true. in my eyes CC is always asked for because the parties are often gimp. The biggest keys to no CC though are tank and healer gear so they stay alive and can hold all the mobs. The second is, yes you guessed it, your dps. The less damage the tank takes the better and that is from him having good gear and the dps burning down the targets ASAP. Druids have decent focused fire and a focus macro for cycloning wouldnt hurt, removing just one mob from combat for a few seconds can make a big difference.

PS- @Bravo, your sig is spelled wrong :)

Heh, drop 3x rejuv and 3x regen on the tank right before the pull then go moonkin. Invincible tank for 12 seconds FTW! (or however long that stuff lasts).

That would be a quick death in heroics, unless the healer has a big heal already queued up. :D

I suppos that would depend on how much +healing each druid has but on my resto druid the ticks from lifebloom/regrowth and rejuv are enough to keep a tank up on almost anything. What the above WOULD do would cause a wipe for a different reason. Mainly because each of those ticks would generate threat for the boomkins so the moment the mob is pulled and his agro table is generated 1 tick of the hot will send him after the boomkin.

if you have a pally tank, this wouldnt happen if consecrate ticks first ;P

I can't forsee it being a problem in EVERY heroic, although you may find one or two that you struggle with, CC is not essential.

When i used to single box we would often clear heroics with no CC using a paladin tank or 2 tanks.

Sure heroic trash mobs will one shot clothies or rogues but Moonkins have armor multipliers equivalent to bears so they should be able to take a hit or two.

Starting a fight with a full stack of HOTs may be a bit risky as pointed out above, but a full set of lifeblooms will be ok, the final 'Bloom' causes aggro on the tank not the healer remember.

Combine Pally AOE tanking capabilites, Salvation & Moonkin armor, and 3 x combat rez if things do go bad, and I dont think a lack of CC is going to be holding you back.
