I have four different WoW client installs on my computer, One for each character. As far as the patch goes how do i only download it once (currently from Blizzard, even tho its so slow, because its the only one i could find out) and have it transfer to my other copys without it deleting my bindings and cameras and etc.

Thanks

currently from Blizzard, even tho its

Look for Patches folder, copy the corresponding patch folder to the rest of you other wow folders.

Not only that, but I think that you need to actually run the patch from inside of each WoW folder that you have. I dont think just putting it there will make that particular WoW recognize that its there. It only recognizes that it downloaded it or not.

I've been dealing with some of this lately as I just recently got myself two other hard drives so that I could run separate installations. Just last night I did this for the previous patches to get my new installations up to date, and you do indeed have to copy them to your new directory, and then run each patch on each installation you have.

You have to run the patches separate times, but at least you don't have to download them for each installation.

Maybe somebody could do a writeup for the Wiki?

Or write a script or open source program to patch X number of installs?

Zin...didn't someone write such a program for you a long while back, before the forums were changed? I think it was stickied in the software forums for awhile, it was a batch-patcher or something no?

I like how we get this post every time a patch hits.Considering there haven't been alot of patches out recently and considering all the new MB'er spare some heat.

It was just an observation, nothing more. II could have told you to use the search feature, because I know there is at leeast one thread, possibly more that describes how to do this in detail... ;)

EDITThen you would of had 20 more newbs posting topics. So i decided to do it before anyone else would. You should really congrats me!

Hold up on trying to find your patches folder in your WoW installations. For me, and maybe this was JUST for me for some odd reason, it moved to an all users folder in my documents area. This might just be a Vista thing, but I can't imagine why that would be.

Anyhow, the patches are, like I said - for me, being downloaded there. I have all my machines wired up together, so I just download the patch on my main machine (and that's easy to notice since I actually open the launcher on that one). The others never let me know that there is a patch coming down since I open the other 4 clients on the other 2 machines with Maximizer. After everything is downloaded, I just transfer the patch files over the network to the location the game expects to find them and everything just works out.

I start the individual clients and they see the patch files, verify them, and install.

So before you go hunting in your WoW installs, double check that the patches aren't going some place else first :)

I didn't find any luck with what (not studying) I browsed on the helpfully supplied links in this thread. As in I took a look, and started having brain drain. I have vista 64 pro/home. I kept getting an series of start, restart, d/l, apply and then repair. After the third time, I just right clicked each wow's start icon and ran as administrator it worked as a charm. Only slight problem after that, I'd copy the patch folder into the dir, and it said bnupdate.exe.part. Each 3 files in the patch folder in the 2-4th copy on that pc suffixed in that way. Since it made a dir. for me by dropping into the main wow folder. I just pulled the 'meat' out of the orig. folder into the subsequents. Note: Cancel the downloading, and run the bnupdate.exe from within the patch folder. I hope that it's both clear and helpful, for anyone struggling.

If you use the single folder / symbolic link method the clone WoW folders get patched automagically when you patch the source folder.

I might read up on that. Boat zoning is pretty horrid, which leads me to believe Shatt might be ridiculous. Instance zoning is fine. My fps will shift between the 4 copies on one pc from 15-45. Sometimes 3 copies will say 45 and the 4th will say 15. And I look back a few minutes later and two copies might be 15. I haven't noticed any problems with lag or fps except as above. And I'm thinking the above might be a ram issue, and my pc needing reset occasionally. quadcore 4g ram. Last night I ran two alts from portal to shatt FP, and they both moved fine. One day I'll try the 5 at once.

loading lag is most often drive seek times. memory and graphics are when you have display lag but im pretty sure if you have bad loading times changin continents or going throuigh portals(really bad for me) that its seek related. Im pondering getting a raptor or two and splitting off my installs even further now that ive been venturing into shattrah more. I knowq its definately not system RAM because with all 5 copies running I never see more than about 2.5gigs used (out of ~3.6) and video is decent because i have graphics turned down and the fps stays pretty constant.

I don't have any issues w/ boats / zoning on my 4 GB quad machine. Sounds like you are running your clones at a high maxbgfps. I cap mine at 15 fwiw.

If you want to try the symlink thing I wrote a script that makes it pretty easy:
[Other] PowerShell script to create symbolically linked (mklink) copies of WoW ('http://www.dual-boxing.com/forums/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=4854')

Well I did the min/max 15/45 as suggested in the tutorial. Also with the boats, hearthing is the only drag on performance. It's a minor thing. I thought everyone wanted the maximum fp's possible. I also might need a new router. Mine's about 4yrs old. I thought it could just be comcast connection was the problem, and thus, out of my hands.

can make a batch script to copy over only the changed/updated files.

xcopy -u * z: (mapped location)

some reason however my wow got bugged not sure why probably an error in the parameter....will need to check later.
