So I was looking over the patch notes and saw that they are changing Glyph of Pillar of Frost to where it slows you by 70% instead of freezing you in place. This has me wondering if theyd be able to squeeze out 1-2 kills in a CD phase while being immune to LoC. Idk, just a thought....

It COULD but you have to understand dks get kited as is... and 70% slow is going to make you move slower than molasses.

BUT you are immune to




Charm (http://www.wowpedia.org/Charm): target is under control of the caster.
Fear (http://www.wowpedia.org/Fear_effect): target runs randomly around.
Polymorph: target is transformed into a critter.
Stun (http://www.wowpedia.org/Stun) (controlled and random): target is unable to move or perform any actions.
Incapacitate (http://www.wowpedia.org/Incapacitate): a stun which breaks on damage to the target.
Sleep (http://www.wowpedia.org/Sleep_effect): target is put to sleep, unable to move or perform any actions.
Disorient (http://www.wowpedia.org/Disorient): target wanders around, unable to perform actions. Similar to a Polymorph but no transformation occurs.
Banish: target is made immune to all effects but is unable to perform any.
Horror (http://www.wowpedia.org/Horrify_effect): similar to Fear effect, but duration tends to be short.


DK damage really isn't all that strong without random crits, your control is lackluster overall where your stuns DR (remorseless winter, asphyxiate) and silences DR quickly too. Off healing in most 5's comps is also high (tons running with at least one off healer).

IF you take desecrated ground that gives you:
3 trinkets + ams + lichborne

Being slowed by 70% for 20 seconds is kinda a big deal though, you won't be able to chase healers ANYWHERE.

I love my dks... but we'll have to see. That glyph might be something you run vs something like mage/lock/spriest/druid/X or Any warrior team since it makes you immune to stuns for 20 seconds.

Against any melee team I honestly think the glyph will be very OP because you can tunnel damage into a close target and grip in when healers get close. You essentially can be immune to stuns for 32 seconds and immune to fear for 36 seconds total.

If you manage to NOT get a kill within the first few seconds of the game though with all your anti-CC then you will end up with a loss. 26 seconds of anti-cc every min is a lot though. The ability to turn it off though any time allows it to be used as a 3rd trinket (desecrated ground, trinket, pillar of frost) which can be amazing. It's essentially shamanistic rage for dks if you use it that way.

Pillar glyph currently works with DA and other speed boosting spells(Stampeding Roar, feather etc.) on the ptr.

I think quad or 5 dk is just too squishy in 5s, I thought about quad unholy because the diseases are really strong but gameplay would be very complicated

Makes sense guessing it would have been op, but its still a useless glyph even with the change.

Howling Blast now deals 30% more damage.
Might of the Frozen Wastes now increases all melee attack damage by 30% (up from 20%).
Rune of Razorice now causes 3% extra weapon damage as Frost damage (up from 2%), and each stack of Frost Vulnerability now causes the target to take an additional 3% damage from the Death Knight's Frost attacks (up from 2%).
Icebound Fortitude no longer costs Runic Power.
Thoughts?

Howling blast now hits for like 17k on players, non crit, on live. With the increased base resilience and the 2x pvp trinket extra resilience, I dunno if the 30% is going to make it hit way more. Even x4, we are only talking about a relatively small number. And to take the most advantage you are almost forced to play with 1h, which is lacklustre at the moment on live. I'm afraid that the 30% on HB isn't enough to make dks the chainsaw they once were.

If they tripled DK damage then it would be enough to one shot, so more damage is something that anyone needs :)

They lack survivability though I think is what Krush is trying to point out. I play solo DK alot and if you get trained youre as good as dead lol

idk but if you want to go for dks I'd play 3 unholy and druid and priest healer, if you manage to get full dot line on 5 targets with undispelable dot glyph (which gets buffed in 5.4) then you could slowly drain them to death, you'd probably have to switch targets a lot but with the 15% str buff the dots will do tons of damage

That is true for a lot of specs. As frost dk you can sit all the time in blood stance while getting trained and still do decent damage, as unholy you don't get those free death coils, but even then blood stance is a nice trade off. And you have double conversion. AMS is a bit of a joke, but it's not like dk's are the weakest spec defensive wise ...

I'd rather go for warriors tbh, with a resto shaman (using windwalk+coe) and then oneshotmacro with dragon roar every minute, warbanner rotation, damn I wish I'd have enough time to level warriors :p

DKs are OK still even in 5.3. On my holy pal/dk team I beat 2170 MMR team this season (with me playing the healer too). They lost 60 points off of me because I'm keeping it low around 1600 so I can cap easily. I'm pretty sure in 5.4 DKs can hit 2k+ easy. It's all about popping all cooldowns a killing one healer in the first 30 seconds.

I made it up to like 1900 with my dk team at one point. Yeah its doable but meh. If you don't get a lucky crit with oblit your damage isn't enough to kill a target through like monk + priest heals.
