Ok, here is my setup.

I play 4 shamans on the Tichondrious server ( PvP)(Horde) : Yanamanna, Yanaamana, Yannamana, Yaanamana

I use a core2 duo e6600, 3 gigs of muskin ram(ddr2 667Mhz), and a XFX 7900gt *edit* (Im runing with a MSI 8800GT now) video card. I get ( not maxed out of course) around 60fps ( sometimes 30-40 when im org ) on the main screen, I have my clones set at 15fps when there in back round.

The displays are a Optoma EP1690 projector ( 84in screen ), and a Westinghouse TFT 22'' LCD moniter

Two Recievers. One is sony( the one i use for my "5.1" surround sound ), the other is a Pioneer and powers my two 15'' Subwoofers ( its upsurd i know, but I like to *Feel* my music, and *feel* when I shoot a gun in counterstrike)

Here's the rig..

The flashes make it look awfull, its actully very vivid

Again with the flash, awfull . The projector is actully really bright(2500 lumens) and i ushally do play with the lights in the room turned on.
(sorry about the mess on floor , was still seting everything up and wanted to try out my new toy!)

Same picture except with no flash, lights off and a little bit of a zoom on camera.

yes it is true that it is 720p, It would be nice to get a 1080p setup. A decent 1080p projector is very $$$ expensive.

Keep in mind that im siting 10 feet away from the screen. I do like to chat with out having to look at a small 22in screen. Resolution is not a issue for me, the fact i can watch HD movies on a 84in screen, and then click a button and play world of warcraft; i'll take that over any setup that invloves a 2,000+ resolution moniter thats going to get chopy framrates (at least on the budget I would have for a videocard).

The setup is multi purpose.

My girlfriend can do her homework on the 22in screen, why i sit next to her and watch a movie. Win win

I would love to box on a projector based setup but for the time being, the resolutions are too low and the costs / noise too high. Yes, I know there are some solutions to these problems but what I want is a 2560 x 1600 projector.

For $1000.

the best you could do for 1,000 bucks is 1280x768 :P
if you have 2,000 + you can do 1080p but 4,000 will get you a nice 1080p projector ( brand new )

if you do some searching you can actully nab a very high resolution projector ( used )
it wont be DLP ( more then likely) but, the cost should be more in the price range your talking about.

Well, right, because the noise out of a projector is an issue I guess... considering it has one fan. I understand a heat consideration issue, but then i had a DLP projector that I snagged for $800 that did 1280x1024 way back in 2004 it ran for overk 15k hours on a bulb intended for 5k, but was not the greatest on lumens. I had actually bought 2, both of them are since sold, they were great fun to play on if you can get comfortable using mice on couches imo.

As far as budget... haha! well i suppose that upgrading 10 machines when next expansion comes out gets pricey.

BTW: hey teamgurblash nice to see another tich boxer

not sure why you are being so sarcastic. Many projectors are actually quite loud for only having one fan...Have to keep that bulb cool after all

My computer makes more noise then my projector.
Loudness wiether it be a computer, or projector will vary. Always good to do research before you buy!

I would imagine 5 computers would be louder , and generate more heat.

The noise level of my projector is qouted directly from the manufactors website and says

"Noise Level (STD/ECO)
30dB/27dB "

I run it in ECO ( econo mode ) simply because it hurts my eyes due the nature its so freaking bright.
When im playing my games in 3-D like x3:Reunion I ushally up the brightness ( the glasses You have to wear to watch 3-D on it are basicly like sunglasses )

thats really not that loud, its not a distraction when watching a movie to put it simplier

10x computers in one room vs 10x computers and a Projector.
AND
if you are using a projector, chances are you are also using a halfway decent set of speakers that will override the fan sound very quickly. Even if you a being quite because it's late at night. there are also enclosure cases that then use air from between foors or attic space (if you have an attic like min where the air in it is cirulated in the house so it doesn't get crazy hot in(and keeps the winter heat bills down)).

Not only that, there are plenty of fan manufacturers that are completely capable of producing silent fans. Papst is one of them and they make steel fans for computers that are dead silent with 60+ cubic feet per min. Getting one might be a bit dificult as they only sell in bulk. Just an example, if companys cared to give the best product we would barely hear fans. The simple fact is that it's a profit issue, if they can be cheap on something and still meet the standard required for it, they will.

yes that one fan can be somewhat loud, however givin what a projector would be used for in this case, it's not for someone giving a presentation in a small room, it's for entertainment, and thus you will almost always have some noise be it music, or vent or whatever else going that will mask it.
