I am looking to add 1 more character to my setup to have a total of 5.

I currently have :

Warrior (Protection)
Priest (Holy)
Mage x2 (Arcane)

I want to focus on 5 man dungeons and then eventually raids.

I am currently able to do some dungeons however my main problem with boss encounters is running out of mana on my priest healing so much.

I think I can attribute this to not having enough DPS.

What class would you guys recommend adding to my setup? I sort of want to add a secondary healer that can both do damage and heal if needed.

You shouldn't need multiple healers, DPS will do you far more good than the weak DPS and a ton of overhealing you will get from another healer. I didn't run across anything up to and including 5man heroics that required more healing than my solo healer could put out.

If you are running out of mana, you are either very undergeared or not using your healing/DPS/tanking cooldowns effectively.

I like Warlocks. Almost all my teams have a Destruction Lock.

I'm not used to Arcane Mages. Beeing a big fan of Frost Mages, all my mages are frost specced and they perform pretty well (I'm not saying that Frost Mages are more efficient because they probably aren't - just saying they do the job!).

Now, about the healer... have you tried Discipline on your priest? I remember some time ago to run some teams with a Holy Priest. Then I tried Discipline and things changed form night to day. I feel Discipline more powerful on a multiboxing environment (even solo, imho). Discipline Priest also contribute with decent DPS on trash packs and not so heavy fights.

So, direct to your question... I would add a Warlock or, if you want something different than just another caster, get a Hunter. Hunters are funny to play and can bring some 'extra gadgets' to the party.

I very well might not be using my cooldowns effectively. What are do you think are the most important cooldowns for Warriors/Preists/Mages if you happen to play them?

My characters are currently level 87. I am able to do Temple of the Jade Serpent (normal difficulty). I tried Mogu'shan Palace last night and couldn't get past the first boss. I just keep running out of mana on my Priest. My characters have mostly query gear around ilvl 400 and some pieces of ilvl 420 from blues in Temple of the Jade Serpent.

Do you have to manage procs with your Frost Mages? I am using a 1 button macro for my Arcane Mages that makes it easy to try to heal while dps'ing at the same time.

With your Disc priest..what heals do you use the most? I normally try to keep Power Word Shield on my tank at all times and then put a renew on him. If my other toons get hurt I normally will cast a heal on them or use Prayer of Healing (group heal).

Thanks!

Smite, Holy Fire, and Prayer of Mending. Penance and PW:S if you really need more healing/ dmg reduction.

Usually I don't manage procs. Procs management are built into the combat rotations. The same with most of the cooldowns. My configurarion is based on the fundament: 'If it's ready, shoot it!' so any time a boost or proc is ready, it's casted. If the proc depends or optimizes on having x stacks of something or any other more circunstantial condition, a) I try to predict the right timmings and build my rotations based on that. b) If not possible or if it's too important to predict, it goes to the 'do procs' key that commands 'shoot all you have now!!' to everybody.

As shadewalker said, it may look strange but the main healing source comes from Holy Fire and Smite. The more DPS you do, the more healing tank receive. So, sometimes, interrupting the priest dps rotation to cast a couple of Heals on the tank is less dps = less healing = mistake!

I've got my priest geared to optimize dps along with just the needed spirit to keep a reliable mana pool. I almost never use Renew - just on the begining of the fight, togheter with a POM. Always shield up - that's crutial. My priest is casting shield on tank every step of his rotation, so tank is ALWAYS shielded.

Priest uses POH or Flash Healing when tank is under heavy pressure but then, he immediatly resumes the rotation to keep the DPS->healing process going.

So: I use Holy Fire, Smite, Shield, Penance and POM built into the Discipline Priest rotation. Extra healing and cleansing with click bars. Mega-Heal and Panic! on separated hotkeys.

for disc priest, do a castsequence prayer of mending, power word shield, prayer of mending, prayer of mending, power word shield (this will cast two shields and three poms in 30 seconds)

then holy fire on cd and smite filler

save penance as your go to mouseover heal (its powerful and cheaper than flash, assuming they haven't fucked with the numbers).
