View Full Version : Multiboxing 4x troopers - viable?

Hello,
Let me start off by saying that I am not a new boxer, been boxing stuff like WoW for a couple years now. But I figured it was time for something new (With the recent changes to the game and /follow etc etc)
Couple days ago I created a new 4x trooper team that I have leveled to 10, everything went very smooth and easy, and it was a lot of fun (Except maybe the story bogus...)
But I was wondering what sub-class (is that how you call it?) I should take. Would it be better to go 4x dps or do I need a tank? And what about swapping out one trooper for a jedi knight, would that create unnecessary complications or is that the way to go? The official website does say
''When Troopers are partnered with the Jedi, they are a force to be reckoned with on any battlefield.'' Besides, it would look pretty badass to have one jedi knight followed by three troopers, his own squad
So... In all honesty I didn't really think about class choice, because I don't know a lot about the game yet. But so far (leveling 1-10) troopers were a blast (pun intended). Any ideas on what sub-class to take or going all dps or maybe a jedi knight...?
Thanks,
CitricScorpion

One Jedi Guardian and 3 troopers (with one being a commando at least) would be very decent for flashpoints / runs at end game content. I wouldn't go all DPS because you won't be able to take on a lot of stuff that is at your level so in order to run flashpoints the content will have to be pretty under your level. Healers make all the difference in the world.

I would go all dps to start with but make sure you have at least one on the dps/tank and or dps/healer side so if need be you can make up with tank healer and 2 dps.

Ive only been playing couple months but ive done 3 flashpoints yesterday with another person and 2 healer companions and all went very smooth, cleared them all fine. These are at level 35-40 btw so no idea what end game heroics would be like.
Been multiboxing wow for 3 years and went solo on this game but the need to multibox again grows everyday. just not sure to subscribe to innerspace again for 2 accounts. My PC may not handle anymore than that.
If anyone has enjoyed boxing 2 let me know. Would like to know if its worth it or not

Star Wars Galaxies?
The companions in Swtor are not strong enough to do instances with. Honestly, I see no reason to multibox in Swtor after doing it for a year. I would just play solo with all my toons. There is no way you are going to multibox ops in that game.

I have been 2 boxing SWTOR for a few months. I really enjoy it, having 2 characters and 2 companions is great.
I play for the stories and the content so with 2 characters I get twice as much. Currently at level 32, 2+ quests are easy and some 4's are OK. 4+ quests I find can be doable but aren't generally worth it for the time invested.
It took a while to get setup but everything is working as it should now.

Why not? I've boxed a lot of flashpoints, but I haven't tried any ops yet.

Yeah I don't see why OPS wouldn't be viable. The fights that have "go click this" type of mechanics might be a little bit tougher, but I would think that with two pre-set boxing groups with intelligent drivers it can be done. Hell people 1 man 25 boxed raids in wow

Not sure how long it takes to get the 7 day trial, if im viable..but hopefully i can try two box this and see how it goes.
Met a 3 boxer couple days ago on my server, looked like it was going well
Edit: full day of dual boxing this. seems sages and troopers are pretty easy to run. Seriously missed multiboxing and loading up isboxer again :)
After finally setting up the only downside i have so far is not being able to interact with NPCs on slave for quests like wow and follow always breaking
On EU server red eclipse if any people are on there

I have several teams of 4 level 50s in the swtor. My latest team is at 41 and is 3 vanguards and one commando. All can be DPS if desired and any vanguard can respec to tank. The commando is a good healer, but an awesome ranged DPS!
I 4 box weekly operations with one of my teams just fine. They all are DPS and my guild provides 2 healers and 2 tanks. I routinely do TFB story mode in this way.
I can solo most HM flashpoints which will get you geared in columi in no time. After that you are ready to do sorry mode ops to get Rakata.

Can you give some tips on your Commando dps? I just got to 50 on my Rep group and outfitted in Tionese gear, I can do some bosses in some of the HM's but definitely no where close to being able to clear any. Been doing dailies, to help gear up that way. I definitely can attribute some of my failures to just learning the fights and the game (versus what worked in WoW).

My commando is assault specced. I have it set so that the 18sec burn dot is always up. I automatically do full auto every 14 seconds and I have charged bolts go every 6 seconds or so. High impact bolt and stock strike have the highest priority and are always kept on cooldown. Don't know what else you need to know.

Thanks to all the tips from Riiker (plus I don't want to admit how much time tweaking my ISboxer dps setup) I've got my two Assault Troopers doing 820-850ish in Tionese gear pretty consistently against target dummies. I can't seem to get my Leave/Join ATG actions to work perfectly (have one for Incendiary and one for Full Auto), but I'm way happier with the dps of the Troopers now. Gonna go back and try to tackle some HM's this weekend!

Longshot - the commando is pretty tricky to set up due to the fact that it has to cast most of its abilities. I'm on vacation now but when I get back I might be able to put something together to illustrate how my commando is set up. You should be able to get the same DPS as you are getting with your vanguards.
Also, the first HM that I cleared was Taral V. Dulfy.net has a pretty good strategy for how to do this and I found her guides were spot on. It's really difficult in starter gear but once you gear up a bit it starts getting easier I promise! You also might want to consider augmenting your gear with reflex (aim) or overkill (power) augments.
