View Full Version : [WoW] What are the LEAST boxer-friendly dungeons?
I'm not specifically referring to heroics. I just finished leveling my 2nd team to 80 and wasted at least half an hour on it, so I'm going to throw my hat in first with...
The Oculus (probably doesn't matter whether you do normal or heroic). The 2nd part of the dungeon has everyone running around in vehicles. Follow still works, but targeting becomes painful (I tried using a broadcast key that worked like TAB normally does), and AFAIK (admittedly, didn't try) you can't replace the stuff on the bar with macros. After messing around with this for a while, and more specifically after a wipe that probably wasn't the first, I zoned back out after getting my bodies back. I'd bet it's fun as a single player, but it seemed altogether painful while boxing.
Scarlet Halls (normal @ level appropriate). First boss with the stupid arrows, I only managed to do this stupid one with my first team (four hunters) by sending my pets to attack and do pretty much all the work. I could never figure out how to keep everyone alive to make it across the gap while the explosive arrows are going off all over.
Scarlet Monastery (again, normal @ level appropriate). First boss has an awful lot going on at once and it's tremendously difficult, for me at least to deal with all of it together on 5 toons at once.
Opinions, mine, etc.

The Oculus was a bit tricky back in the day and required several macro's to get it going but once you knew the strategy and had it laid out properly it was extremely easy/smooth. It still took the longest to run usually out of all the heroics during its prime.
Scarlet Halls, first boss. Have the main hold the hay/shield and walk forward with the rest on follow, typically need some type of heal about half way on heroic.
The monastery first boss should be a tank and spank, not sure on that one. Unless I am confusing the two, the one which the guy that does the whirlwind is a bit tricky though.
Most heroics are doable, albeit painful. It is the raiding scene that truly tests your limits.
If overgeared, all dungeons are very doable. But, imo, in the normal process of leveling, with gear we got from dungeon drops with no enchants or boosts, the most difficult or least boxer friendly are:
The Oculus because of the mechanics - need some particular macros/actions.
Stonecore because of huge trash packs with strong aoe. Bad pull or some mellee running out and that's a mess.
Throne of the Tides - 1st boss is a PITA. Just made it when my teams reached lev 85. I've never beat this boss with a 80-84 team.
Stormstout Brewery - I found last boss to be one of the most challenging fights I've done while multiboxing. Actually I'm still learning the best way to deal with it.

I have been able to follow the random dungeon since it was in the game, except for the odd 80 speed bump due to gear when you have to quest a bit, cannot queue for WOLK and you cannot queue for Cata (same for MoP), but it's just a few hours and your back to grinding dungeons.
I would agree that the first water world boss is tough, but some comps or macros (rally to warlock after teleport) or rally to alternate character can make things pretty easy. The last beer boss is really comp specific on if its 'easy' or not it seems. But if you check out some of the challenge videos, use of the pillar and such can really help control the first stages.
Some of the people I heal for that are boxing don't use crowd control and just zerg through all instances, normally don't run with a dedicated healer. I find that odd, they really have problems getting badges and clearing heroics.
I have never heard of Occulus specific macros, that place i so odd.

Man, with all the talk of PVE I am trying to resist the urge to re-subscribe and try doing PVE for PVP gearing for when/if they put /follow back into arenas.

Several weeks later, I searched for hints on the forum here for stonecore and ran across this thread again :-)
Honestly, the trash mobs have been difficult but not obnoxiously so to me. I've been able to handle them fine with my DK/druid team and my mage/war/priest team. On the other hand, the bosses are kicking my ass. I *really* hate the bosses in this dungeon. The worm boss is no big deal, but the mechanics of the dragon fight and the end boss fight make this dungeon pretty stupid hard at least for the teams I've tried it with. I'm currently up to three wipes on the dragon with my mage team. Damnit.

I don't multibox Stonecore for a long time but, if I remember well, I found the Dragon pretty easy to beat. Is all about movement and positioning (last boss too). On Dragon fight keep your toons following the tank and just avoid the things that falls from the sky. You'll see the place where they'll hit the floor one or two seconds before. Nuke him hard and dodge the rocks.
The last boss was hard at the beginning... then I saw this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJFcPLHkmdA) video. It looked pretty easy. So, I've tried to replicate the method and it worked on the second or third try. Then I began to mastery the process. The key is: a) keep your toons away from things falling over them b) keep your tank always on the way to aggro all the adds running to them. Don't waste time to kill adds - focus on the boss everytime you can.

You'd lose your money on that bet. It was so painful that it was the one heroic that if you got it on random your group would instantly disband. They eventually added in a bribe bag that could drop the malygos raid mounts to force people to quit dropping the heroic as soon as they got it. Worst 5 man ever!
Sethekk isn't very fun either because of the trash that fears, but most people just skip it because by the time you can get in you can do the northrend dungeons. I prefer to do the BC ones, myself, but sethekk generally wipes my team once or twice when I forget to be careful.

Hands down the Scarlet Halls/Monastery. I had issues with the first bosses on both in decked out Heirlooms, now that I'm on a new account with no gold, they are damn near impossible for a team with no AoE, Pally and 4 Disc Priests.
