View Full Version : [WoW] I found a solution! Adequate Replacement for /follow in BGs etc.

This is a little messier than /follow but it does the job!
1. Step one, summon an ethereal soul-trader (this pet acts as a vendor to turn in ethereal credits)
2. Target ethereal soul-trader and use interact with target. Repeat as is neccessary.
This will allow all of your toons to follow your pet! Occasionally the pet may stop if the reach him but he will always resume following you in seconds and if you are vigilant at clicking the IWT as needed it will get you from place to place AND can help recovery from fear bombs!
(It has also been mentioned that the traveler's tundra mammoth vendors can be used to IWT when mounted)
This is a better alternative to tundra mammoth as it can be used when dismounted :]
I know getting the pet is expensive in gold or cash, but you will only need it on the leader and the promise of boxing another day is worth it for me! (I have seen a few blue posts mention that multiboxing is not the target of this change so i'm confident blizzard would not attempt to be rid of IWT.)
Let me know if you see any problems with my idea, but this is the best option I can see at the moment, and it gets me close enough to the enemies to start IWT on them with melees so while I feel a little bit handicapped atm I can still use this atm!
Feel free to mention other creative ideas in this thread, I have not given up and I'm sure some of you more experienced boxers could help make some excellent macros/strategies to use with this or similar ideas!
Thanks for listening :]

I thought about this pet also when you mentioned the mammoth vendors last night, however the expense being worth it is questionable to me.
If you have the gold and don't need it for anything else, it may be worth trying to get one if your Auction House has it up. However if you buy the loot card you are looking at $180+ on ebay right now to get it. I know boxing isn't a cheap hobby in the long run, but I wouldn't spend that kind of money for something that Blizzard could break later on also.

If they broke /follow so bots wouldn't follow, why wouldn't they break IWT if it got used the way they didn't like it? You know IWT was not in Vanilla, so it can be taken out or modified.

IWT actually has several legitimate uses though, unlike follow. Including as a direct keybinding. Some NPCs are near impossible to interact with in crowded areas or when people are griefing, or due to their location. It was also justified due to it being very helpful to handicapped players.
They could probably remove it as a keybinding, I don't know what all that affects, but the interact with target functionality on click-to-move is used by the general player base to interact with NPCs and get into melee range in combat.
I don't know who would notice if the key binding was gone, but removing the functionality entirely would significantly impact the player experience and UI immediately in a "wtf is wrong with my game?" kind of way. Something would feel really off and it would take a minute to figure it out. Those kinds of things have a negative impact on the overall feel of a responsive UI and game. Kind of like how you immediately notice even half a second of server lag when interacting with a vendor.

That solution will not replace follow. Good luck trying to PVP while you are trying to follow a vendor with iwt. We just have to accept the party is over unless you want to only pve. I would expect this no follow to work it's way over to the pve side as well. It was a good run while it lasted.

You can use Guild Page (http://www.wowhead.com/item=65362) as well and this is a cheaper item then u was talking about.

I can't itw other toon on guild page, only the one who summon it can interact with it.
With the etheral, anyone on the group can use it ?

I believe the guild page has a 4 hour cooldown
And yes anyone can use the trader.

Just for the record guys I said it was a solution not the solution. I'm just trying anything i can to make this work.
So far IWT on the pet is working It's challenging yes... but it works.
At least i'm trying :p

Most likely they will consider following the pet or using the NPCs as an exploit and issue bans. It won't surprise me.

I would have to second this comment. They don't want you boxing in BGs and if you find ways around it who knows what will happen.
Good work figuring out something though. Its like I want you all to figure something out, to help justify all the time and money spent in the game, and not feel "stabbed in the back" by them all of a sudden wanting me out.

I agree
over 20 accounts total and over 60+ total faction changes OR server x-fers... i feel screwed so bad.

That would only confirm a direct attack on multi-boxers. Show me one blue post confirming this as the reason and i'm out for sure. Till then i'll do all I can. :p

What difference does it matter the reason, they broke it. It's over. Save your money

http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/8087929775?page=6#104 - I rise from the grave of Early Site Members to bring you this...I haven't played WoW in ages but this is just them shooting themselves in the foot...you guys have my sympathy and I'd be right beside you in cancelling, if I wasn't already cancelled for many others reasons lol; Blizz's been in a downward spiral for awhile now but this just takes the cake.

Yeah, don't do this. First of all those things are 200k gold on a high pop server or $200USD on ebay. They aren't a good replacement for follow. They could break them in a week, or just start issuing those random suspensions for exploiting game mechanics. They don't want us to multibox BGs and if you try to exploit around it, well, don't be surprised if something happens.

Pretty interesting method with the soul trader. Can he die in pvp? If he will die can you instantly re-spawn him?
You could use tundra mammoth vendor to follow when mounted and the trader to follow when not mounted.

To answer your question aasi888 the soul-trader cannot die in pvp. All pets like this from my understanding only take damage from pet battles.
Also the guild herald will not allow anyone to IWT except the caster from my experience.
My current strategy is using the traveler's tundra mammoth when mounted and using the ethereal soul-trader when unmounted and no enemy players are near by.
The only problem with the soul trader is that if your dudes reach it he will stop for a couple seconds while they open the vendor window causing all of them to stop. You need a good timing method to try preventing this.
Usually when i'm in combat i will just use the IWT on enemies exclusively due to the slight inconvenience of the soul-trader (it cannot effectively be used to turn towards enemies during combat in a timely manner)
The soul-trader is quite valuable when traveling through areas such as the WSG tunnel (indoors) because it allows you to have your guys continue to follow in sync when used correctly.
So with all this I am able to effectively participate in battlegrounds, it is not as convenient as with /follow but it is starting to work pretty well for me. I know this is not an adequate solution for everyone but I love WoW and multiboxing. I would rather not abandon either, despite the difficulties involved.
Hope this helps.

i was wondering how do you target or focus the ethereal soul trader for all your slaves from the main cause right now im having to go to each toon after a res and reset manually each time my target and focus it really eats so much time is there a better way ?

Make a button you spam to follow
/target Spirit Trader
or w/e its name is
that also does interact with target and whala.

unfortunately i have not found a way to target the soul-trader, i just have my IWT /assist my main, manually target trader on main, then hit IWT. using the mount obidian nightwing works better since you can just have them target your main, but soul-trader is only indoor solution i've found.
I'm primarily doing pve right now, going to see if i can farm justice points to transfer for the honor gear, then i'll do arenas :]

did you not see the other post where this got me suspended for 72 hours within a few hours of trying it out? for abuse of game mechanics?

Are you sure that the soul-trader was the reason? I talked on the phone with them and they told me it was fine. Maybe the left hand and the right are working separately now?

It's a pretty clear abuse in my opinion. I do see a difference between the multiperson mount and the soul trader, though I could just e rationalizing.

I'd not done anything to raise any flags in quite awhile either (farming high spawn areas sometimes triggers it, as well as other things).
When I put in the ticket the GM specifically mentioned battlegrounds, I couldn't really make any other conclusion. They don't ever tell you the specifics as per both the ticket and the phone "this is handled by the security team and we don't have access to the details"...
I don't know how else to look at it - it's a workaround that uses unintended game mechanics. If it feels like you're exploiting something intended, you probably are.

OK, so is there a LEGAL way to multibox BGs anymore? If I was to only play IoC and sit in the starting room and cause a big turtle would I get banned?

you could be a high risk of not contributing to the team's task at hand (which is an actionable offense).
After so many afk reports then you account can get banned kinda fast now a days blizzard has really gone on using this afk system a lot over the last few months with there war on bots.
just remember there not targeting boxing there targeting players that are not contributing to the team's task that we can fit into this if we sit in a place framing players at the gy's as blizard don't like this kinda game play. (they are changing WSG to stop this more) and afk/bots. My PoV there taking pvp out the game but its there game.
