View Full Version : Going from 1->2 for loot, is 3 or 4 worth it?

So, been farming with my monk for a while (at 60), watched some 4 boxer on twitch and thought - Hey, I can use wifes account and run 2 for 2x the loot!
Leveling up another monk to run 2 TR monks now, and that goes ok boosting and dual boxing - Some synch issues, mostly I think due to different run speed / spirit pool and skills - But all in all manageable, and I think the extra loot chance will be worth the hassle at 60.
However, given the experience of the community - Is going to 3 or 4 chars worth it - Strictly from a loot perspective? Ie does the extra hassle cost more in time than the loot gives?

In my mind the most optimal setup is always going to be one extremely geared character.
There is no way to automatically pick up loot in this game. Sure, if you already RMAH'd most of the gear and can avoid 99% of the drops on the ground it goes easier.
Personally I find I spend a lot of time syncing them and a bit more time dealing with inventory issues such as selling / repairing / gear comparisons. I haven't spent much time looking at clear speeds and then dividing by 4 as my guys are still under geared. Basically my 150k DPS WD is carrying the other 3 at the moment.
Theoretically if you can clear Alkaizer in 30 minutes you multiply that by four. 2 hours. You'd have to come in lower than 2 hours for it to be worthwhile.

I just did the Golden Lotus dailies, the batch of the first 5. Each quest gives roughly 20 gold. So 100g per character. It took me 8 minutes to do all 5. I'd say at most depending on the dailies you get there up to 15 minutes max. With my 5 characters that's an instant 500g.
I think when you have a bunch, the dailies for per gold and not playing with the AH or farming certain items it's a good money generator. I'll end up doing usually 20-25 dailies total with all the different hubs in a day and usually skip some of the collectable ones since they take a while using multiple characters and round up quite a bit gold.
Also when you have more you can run instances much faster or even do them yourselves. Anything good that drops from a dungeon run is yours, no rolling needed :)

It really depends on your setup. There's no question running 1 guy is far faster than 4. But the patch 1.0.7 helps us out quite a bit.
The issue we have is that we have to stop and pickup items, and sometimes switch characters/screens to do it. So no matter what mp you're on, you'll need to do this - So this may take an extra 10-15 mins a run, in addition to syncing up guys etc... Then probably another 10-15 mins to deal with all the loot after a few runs.
So it's much more effective for us to do higher mp levels, since we spend quite a bit of time looting and checking for loot - regardless of mp level. However, in 1.0.6 high mp is crap exp, so it's not more effective from a paragon leveling standpoint.
1.0.7 fixes this quite a bit, so we can do higher mp's which will take more time, but we'll get more loot and exp. Much better use of our time.
Rolling through mp0 just takes too much time to sort through drops - much less likely to get a good one as well - so lots of junk, which wastes our time. Unless you totally ignore drops, and not many people want to ignore drops x4.

Indeed. No inventory-wide identify, nor quick salvage / sell options or pickup options (like dog in TL1 wtf?) has left me scratching my head.
They'll probably find their way into the game at some point so I don't totally hate my purchases. I mean, it is Diablo after all. They'll fix it.

Wow... this is for D3. My mind is not in the right places :)
Playing 4 in D3 is much faster loot as long as you can see the other screens dropping good items.
