So out of curiosity I picked up 3 more copies of D2 today. Just to play with the multiboxer style in this game.

I must say it annoyed the crap out of me. Constantly out of sync, running along walls to lasso them in. I pretty much expected it to be that way but was shocked at how often it happens. I blame Bnet mostly as the 1 in 4 would hit a rubber band and then time to lasso them up all over again. Rinse, repeat, ad nauseum. Got to A2 and the frame rate slowed to a crawl. This with an I7 2600k and 480GTX on an SSD partition. That's when I called it a night.

I may give it another go soon but yeah... Wasn't the best idea I've ever had. Major respect to those of you who have the patience for it. I don't.

I haven't looked at the TOS to see if they allow multiboxing but Path of Exile just went open beta. Graphics are a bit on the low end of the spectrum but it's got a lot of potential and quite fun.

Power leveling by dual boxing d3 atm, and even at different run speed on the chars it works ok - Maybe try fewer than 4 chars?

We knew it'd be like this. It's basically what you're willing to put up with. ;)

Agreed. You really need to have a high tolerance on 4 chars being not able to syn at times and know how to get them back together during the boss/elite fight.

Update: I've gotten them all pretty close to the same IAS and same run speed. That does help a bit.

30/30 on FPS has also helped. Although, there seems to be a real problem with mouse down and mouse up events broadcasting. I don't know yet what the cause is. It could be the GPU stressed or latency but often when I mouse down on an area + shift, I release shift and mouse up but it doesn't broadcast.

Or maybe I'm reading too much into it. If I broadcast a mouse up from A when he's done casting and B receives it right away, but hasn't finished casting, it could be that B is completely ignoring the mouse up event thus the follow up mouse down event (to get the hell out of dodge) is misinterpreted as a 'keep hitting that mob smashing you in the face' command.

I guess I won't know until I've completely equalized their cast times. We'll see.

Make sure when you attack you're holding down shift to force them to stand still. This helps considerably.

I do hold down shift.

Still some issue with the mouse up event. I'm going to start playing from the slowest attack speed character to see if that helps.

Ok so playing from the perspective of the slowest has given me some insight.

Apparently there is a 'drag' on the mouse broadcast when in GPU intensive fight, such as jailer / desecrator / frozen / plague sort of enemies. This results in some of the slaves only updating a little, slight behind the master. The problem is if I drag the mouse from the master out of any click-worthy areas (to escape), the slave goes halfway and winds up clicking on a click-worthy area. This results in the slave standing there attacking when the broadcast order was to move.

It can also be seen in some doorways like towers in A3. The GPU load definitely seems to be part of the problem.

It'd be good to know what GPU specs everyone is using that encounters the problem. I run a 480GTX non-SLI mode. Second 480 is for handling physX.

I'm running three on a 460GTX and don't notice this much, though I'm running all three at just about the minimum settings where I can still see ground effects.

460 is probably on the lower end so if you are seeing it from time to time that is probably the culprit.

It kinda surprised me to see the requirements on a fully loaded D3 game.

I am running GTX 680 non sli, still I got mouse lag and one chars will freeze. Maybe due to high latency of around 150 ms.

Hm..

I wouldn't think latency to be factor from the client side.

Typo on latency.....it should be 250 ms. Mouse can't syn at times during heavy graphic fighting and boss spawn cause all chars to be spread out.

So, I've been playing Diablo 3 pretty heavily. I was watching some streamers on Twitch and I'm not seeing any of these issues as one guy boxes 4 barbs and the other 4 wizards. I'm positive the guy with the barbs is using ISBoxer because I can see him turning his broadcast key on and off. I'm going to buy at least one more copy, but has anyone else tried boxing this lately? Just wondering how tough it is going to be. Thanks!

I've been boxing d3 on and off when I'm really bored, I spent an hour or so on it at the weekend.

Running barb, 2 wizards and a monk - no problems.

You get used to the out of syncs after a while. The worst out of syncs where one character is really far away are pretty rare. The fun to out of sync ratio is enough that you don't care about out of syncs, you're having too much fun.

try making each diablo client run on its own core. and make sure no client runs on the core 0 (the windows one)
