View Full Version : How to finance my boxing?

Sooo,

Recently my financial situation has changed, and i am unable to pay for my 5box.

I'm wondering if anyone has any creative, cleaver ways to make a little bit of cash (only need 100$ a month) to finance my 5box team.

Some Background Info:
-Not looking for a partime job (Thats an obvious solution).
-Still in college
-Trying to maintain my 4.0 GPA (mainly the reason for not wanting a part-time job).
-Computer science / computer information systems major.

I've done a lot of google'ing on the subject, and i finding a lot of information for ways college students can make money online, but most of them feel like scams or just BS when I look into them in further in detail.

Has anyone made any kind of money online before, maybe something that wasn't overly time consuming?

Worste case scenario i don't play this semester as i need to retain my 4.0 for financial aid and such, but it would be nice to be able play on the weekends and when my work is complete.

Any advice or direction would be truly appreciated.

Thanks
-Ron

Try to stream on twitch or make YouTube videos?

Any idea what those ads on youtube actually pay? Ive got a few vids that are monetized, havent seen any revenue yet tho.

They only have tops 5k views, so that could be the case.

You should check out Rent a Coder, or vWorker as they call themselves now.

I run several educational resource websites and outsource all my JavaScript/HTML/PHP needs through them.

I stopped multiboxing EQ when times got tough in college.

So yeah... There is an obvious solution here. Just quit until the money starts coming in.

I'm not sure what the ads pay, was just the only thing I could think of. :) money is getting tight for me to with the economy in the shitter. I think I'll just stop eating out all together, should cover it I hope.

When I was going to college, sometimes I was so poor I would just eat potatoes because they were so cheap. I would just cut them up, fry them in oil, and eat nothing but french fries for weeks at a time.

Young people can survive that. I wouldn't want to try that now though.

You could always ask relatives for money if things are tight while going to school. You can switch to a free to play game. People do make money from streaming, but if you look, they have tens of thousands of viewers, usually part of a pro team, and have been streaming for a long period of time. It's not going to fix your cash problems right now.

You said you don't want a part time job, which implies you don't want to invest a lot of your time.
So something like, collecting pop bottles for recycling (I see that all the time, often with either a bike or a shopping cart) might not be for you.

If you have any kind of skill, that other people want, you could make a How To guide.
Quite frequently, popular topics would be How to Make Extra Cash on the Side or How to Find a Guy/Girl.
Your document doesn't need to be long, but it should have the details.
It could be:
How to Run a Pet Walking Business.
How to Run a Lawn Mowing Business.
Whatever, really.

Advertise, which could be a poster on a telephone pole saying send $20 (or $49.99) to wherever... often a higher price is perceived as more legitimate/valuable, than a lower one (experiment for a sweet spot).
If you want to experiment a little, advertise in the classified section of a few papers... or eventually advertise in hundreds of papers.

For each place you advertise, modify your address slightly (you may want to use a PO Box, for privacy).
Station M, <Insert Address>
Department 4132, <Insert Address>
That way, you know which form of advertising is profitable and which is not.

How about doing the Kessel Run? I bet that if you could do it in less than ELEVEN parsecs then you could make some decent cash smuggling people that are hoping to avoid Imperial entanglements.

ps - If you're getting a 4.0 right now have you considered tutoring?

Play EVE, earn enough isk every month and you can use PLEX to pay for your accounts. I bounce back and forth between plexing all of them and plexing for 2/3 paying for 2/3.

The only legal way I know to make money playing a game is to play Blizzard's Diablo3 and sell your items on the Real Money Auction House. It's alot like EQ2s Auction house (Livegamer) when they had it working. I used to make anywhere from $200-$1500 a week in EQ2 selling characters, gold, and items when i 6-boxed. Diablo3 people can make huge amounts of money if they 4-box and sell all the best items on the RMAH. Just google what people are making off the RMAH and you will be surprised at all the money they are making.

There seems to be a dupe problem with WoW (I have lost a lot of gold this expansion cuase items will not sell for what they should), is there no problem in D3? If they sort it out in D3 then maybe at some point they will have a Real monies AH in WoW.

where are u getting the revenue from your stream? from donations or ad revenue?

Not sure what you were getting at with eve but sounds like it worked for you.

@ lol at the star wars reference.

Im going to talk to my school when the semester starts about tutoring, I have a feeling doing it through the school wouldn't pay though. Maybe ill putup some fliers on the bulletin board.

You mentioned tutoring. Have you looked at writing college papers? Assisting people with laundry? Or a Dorm maid type job? 1-2 clients for either could offset you for being able to make th e $100 per month at only 20-25 dollars a week. Pet sitting is another good gig to get into if someone doesn't want to put them in a kennel? I know a 2 day kennel can run %75-150 in the area I live in so walk them 1-2-3 times a day, feed, etc... my daughter makes $20 a day doing pet sitting at the owners home in our neighborhood.

Just an idea.

1.Computer science student -> make small, useful and cheap applications for ios/Android/Windows phone.
2.Take a look on the other apps on some subject and copy their best features to one ultimate app.
3.Sell for .99$.
4.Repeat step 2. for XX times.
5.profit

Small streams make a big leak and so on.

That's a lot of development to dump a product into a market so massively diluted and saturated the chances of it even being noticed are minimal, let alone turn a profit when you consider the time investment.

I think there are plenty of odd jobs he could do.

I was talking about really small scale development though. Like for example a shopping list application. There are a lot of free ones available but still some people are ready to pay for an app with same functionality. I don't know why, maybe they just grab the first one they can find and don't care about the small price.

If you don't mind it, prostitute yourself or play in a porn movie. The latter one depends on your skills though if you are a dude. But it's the easiest way to make cash, and there is a cup of tea for everyone.
