So hsd to buy 5 new accts in order to try rift again. Got 5 core accounts (couldnt afford expansion this month x5).
Really have no idea what to make for a team. When I played when the game tirst came out I did 5xnecros just for leveling/checking out the game.
Now I'd like to make a strong dungeon soul team and I really got no idea which wsy to go.
How viable are all melee teams? Notice a lot of people doing 5xclerics... why is that?
Suggestions please.
My Currently team is a:
Warrior (My Tank)
2 x Rogue (2 Ranged DPS)
Cleric (Heals)
Mage (DPS or Off-heals)
As much as i like this setup, i think i would rather have 2 Mages over 2 Rogues.
I also liked the idea of 5 clerics, they are a very powerful class, but i usually got kicked from IAs to much so i stopped leveling them. Quesingt sucks for leveling a new group, and IAs were a great way. I started my cleric group during the announcement of the expansion so there were a lot of new players to the game who just kept calling me a Bot.
5 Clerics can cover every class possibility, and have a high-average for survival. They do have a very good tank setup that Heals while tanking, combine with Senticar (now a little nerfed, but viable for 5 man) which DPS Heals at a decent rate (or use Wardicar) which is amazing as well (more healing then dps though). Lets also not forget 5 x inquisitors = 2 Dots(one that does damage on cast and dot overtime) that usually can insta-gib someone in pvp terms, and for leveling make it easy to dot - dot and keep running while stuff dies behind you.
Talking about it makes me want to play again, as i stopped playing due to my child being born a month or so ago, and i have not returned.
I guess its time too.
(P.S. This is 1 huge run-on sentence, i suck at typing sorry!)

so that is a thought.
If i understand correctly.. the IA's offered arn't just random dungeons (alla Wow).. but adventures in different zones that are instanced and given different quests to do in the adventure, correct?
If this is the case.. can any combination of classes do them? or do you have to have the typical dynamic to do them? (tank/healer/dps,ect).
Truth be told.. i am a bit burned out with dungeon farming/running from Wow/swtor. Honestly, very burned out. More interested in leveling, having fun, seeing the game. I know in the end, the dungeons give the best loot, blah blah blah.. but not really caring if doing raiding or such. (though would be interested in joining say, a multiboxing guild possibly and 5boxing say, 5 dps in a guild raid.)
Could i go back to playing like 5 mages? I admit i like skeletons, heh.
Just got my accounts setup and about to start making characters. Just got to decide on server/faction.
IAs are random Kill Quests (sometimes Gathering) which are in the open-world. It basically gathers up to 20 people in a given area. It will teleport you to the "general" area, as well where you should be questing. Instant Adventures are based off existing quests already in the game, so you'll see the same quests eventually just by doing the quest chains.
The quest is shared between all members, all their participation counts towards the end goal. At the end of an IA Quest run (which is usually 4 to 5 quests, you get a mini boss fight, and then the quest chain starts to "loop over again", or random-ize. You get boosted experience while doing this.
The downside with doing this is that if there are numerous amounts of "new players" calling you a bot, they can actually vote you out of the group. You'll usually get a "Bot get out" and followed by a vote to kick on your alts to kick your main or one of your alts out. By this time i usually have enough time to vote kick the whiner out with my alts before another one gets kicked. This by far is very annoying. As we are not hurting anything since multiple IAs run at any given time if there is enough people.
As far as boxing IAs (when doing so without being troubled) any combo of classes will work. Just be aware the "mini-boss" fights sometimes require a tank or good enough to bounce aggro between non-tanking classes, or have enough heals to keep up someone with the damage. Because some do hit hard depending on which one it is.
As for your 5 mages, that may not be so bad, the Harbinger (Melee Mage) is F'ing amazing, hence why i wish my second rogue was another Mage, and apparently Harbinger/Chloros are really good melee healers (i have no proof or witness of this personally).
I reactivated my accounts from work just a few minutes ago, and will probably start playing again around my Minecrafting. Im currently Wolfsbane with a decent Raiding guild (when i was active), but i may come back fresh and find a new guild and server.
.... As for Dungeons, i like a lot of the new dungeons, i got my toons to 56-57 before the baby was born. Old dungeons were fairly do able on Expert Mode (Heroic Mode), with a usually Trinity setup. I do not know the box-ability of some of the newer dungeons. I myself pretty much enjoyed 5-boxing the game. I didnt dungeon run, i primarilly used my toons for crafting and leveling. I did solo play a bit when i was 50 with my cleric as my main. So my cleric at current-50 era raid tier gear right up to expansion. A lot of the gear does come from grinding dungeons out, but go figure like all the other MMOs of this style.
I guess the gear roller coasters was one of the reason i didnt see myself jumping back into rift when my baby was born. But, its still a great game, but then again i still like WoW (Not so much the way it is now), but i like wow for what it was.
Also note that their really is not faction barrier anymore, except in main race cities of (Meridian or Sanctum). You can be guilded/raid/quest/dungeon/PVP with the opposite faction now days.

The Harbinger is an expansion calling.. so i won't have access to that for at least a month or two. But i can always respec into that later i suppose.
Your given up to 6 Roles (Specs) - Purchased with in-game currency of course. With new toons i usually purchase the first 2 additional roles which are fairly cheap to obtain. That usually last a good while.
If i restart fresh again, i will most likely looks at a 5 cleric team, or something with a Cleric Tank + Cleric Healer, 2 Mages, and a Rogue. Warriors dont seem all that fun to me anymore. They are still amazing tanks, but i like my cleric to me my main again, and being already setup to Tank is a Plus for me, because caster/healer gear comes quickly.
On second thought, i really have no clue what mixed group i would do. Im the type of person that wants at least 1 of everything in a mixed group to take advantage of everything, but then again if i think of it like Paladin + 4 Shamans setup. I would probably do 1 Cleric Tank + 4 Rogues or 4 Mages, or maybe even 2 Clerics and 3 Mages maybe. choices ... choices.... i will really need to ponder on this, but in the end 5 Clerics is just amazing....

id really like to keep all my toons of the same class. Like the look/easiness of setup.
Guess end of the day.. all that matters is Synergy.. heals and great AoE potential, right? heh
While i really like the idea of 5 pet mages... its sounding like i am going to gimp myself later if i go that route.
Guess i'll roll clerics then first to try out.
im really leaning towards 1 Cleric 4 Mages or 2 Clerics 3 Mages. After pondering the possibilities, these are 2 very viable setups next to 5 clerics.
Primarily becuase of the harbinger(which you wouldnt have access to) class for melee and aoe damage combined with the ability to heal with chloro makes it very ideal. However the Pet classes combined with a fast casting/more instant cast-able spells soul setup, would prove just as good, minus the tanking capabilities (which may or may not be needed for your possible plan)
The dilemma is if i should use cleric for healing or a mage for healing in the long run. They are both decent, cleric being slightly more powerful with its various healing combos.
5 Clerics is just a very easy setup. Leveling them all Inquisitor with a splash of a healing class makes this makeup very easy not to mention it fits all 3 trinity roles very well.

My current team is 5 x clerics, my old team is warrior, cleric, 2 x rogues, mage
The 5 x clerics are fun and a change of pace for me after playing the mixed team.
Meeo, how are the kicking you from IAs? I tried to kick a loafer the other day and couldn't find an option to do so.

Should be able to just right click their name in the raid frame and select the kickoption Or /votekick and the persons name should still work.

I have to say.. the experience from IA's is nice. My cleric team is already lvl 19 from pretty much just doing those. And they are pretty simple too.. just run around and hit their main AoE attack button and watch stuff die. I hardly if ever hit any other attack.. Going to gimp myself when i fight something harder and forget what other attacks i have, lol.
On a side note, only seen 1 other boxer on the multibox channel. When are you all playing? (i am on guardian Faeblight btw)

I will need to check that out, I tried clicking their portrait and the frame but did not see an option and completely forgot about the macro commands.
It seems people have decided I am a fun one to /follow and then go asleep or AFK and I'll do all the work.

I play on Greybriar but will try the multiboxer channel tonight.
If you want to practice tanking and heals, I would do some rifts at or above your level for training.
Im on wolfsbane, i haven't joined the multiboxing channel myself. I will most likely start back in on rift tomorrow. I am not sure if i will continue my main team or reroll at this point.

anybody give some advice on how they tend to gear new teams? Since i am mostly doing rifts and IA's.. and kinda avoiding dungeons/hard questing.. Would crafting my 5x clerics be the best route? (not really explored the crafting system in rift yet).. or is the crafting gear at lower levels going to gimp me?
What about all that planarite i am getting? can that be used to buy good lower level gear?

This may or may not still be in the game, but as you do IAs you "should" start to get Chests of various color items ( sometimes even low-level epic gear). The more IAs you do the more chances you get to get the gear chest. This is a very nice system as the greens/blues/purples you get are usually ready for your call ( however sometimes youll get one that is not). The gear is already soulbound so you can not trade it.
As for trade skills. I usually setup 3 toons to do all of them. Piloting toon usually is the gather(Butcher, Miner, Forager), while my 2 next favorites are the other 6 tradeskills. (IE: Weaponsmith, Armorsmith, Runecrafter, then Artificer, Tailor, Apothecary). I have never done survival or fishing, but those skills are considered secondary and i believe all toons can pick those up, if you wanted to.
In terms of gearing off tradeskills. Depending on how much resources you have available, the gear from IAs should be better then what you will usually wear from a tradeskill up to a higher level. However, if they are no longer doing the gear chests from IAs then crafting is a good bet.

You have it dead on balls accurate for the IA mechanics Meeo.
If you do the randoms you will also get a bonus.
I received a ton of green chests, a fair number of blue and I believe 1-2 epic chests from 30-50.
By the time I hit 50 a lot of my gear pieces were lvl 28-40 with some mid 40s in the mix.
I also ran some instances along the way as I got bored of the same IAs in Freemarch and Silverwood along with a bunch of Rifts.
I also configure my trade skills the same as Meeo.
I would save all the Planarite up and then buy ( if you don't have access to one of the world event ones ) a Sigil of the Five for 7500 Planarite.
This will give you 4 lesser slots and 2 greater slots for any essences you receive along the way.
I didn't find the need to buy any equipment along the way but i did craft some pieces every now and then but nothing spectacular.
Running the 5 clerics I was able to smoke pretty much anything I came across.
Cheers.

One of your toons should be a Runecrafter. When you do rifts, you will get a ton of essences that you don't need. Your Runecrafter should runebreak all of them to get mats to create runes for all your characters. You will need a lot of runes, 5 times more than any normal player. I would suggest that this should be one of your alts, not the main character. The main character should have all gathering skills, so that you can easily see all nodes on your minimap. Having other crafting skills can be fun, but not necessary.
You should first buy sigils ("Planar Focus") for your planarite. Then you should buy a Medic (heal soul anywhere) on all characters.
