I'm going to start a new team this weekend, just for PVE, nothing too serious though :). Anyway, I'm looking for some advice on my group comp, basically I want a group with both melee and ranged. The group I have in mind is something like this:
Tank: Warrior
Healer: Holy pala
dps1: Ret pala
dps2: Hunter
dps3: Mage
I've never boxed a warrior or hunter before, I did box a mage, but that is years ago. Can I get soe decent DPS with this group? Any other advice/experiences with mixed groups in MOP is appreciated :).

So my advice is have all your dps be melee or ranged, not mixed. I know thats what you want.. I thought I would give you my thoughts on why I think its a bad idea. Unless your just looking for the challenge of it! It definitely will make you a better micro manager! I just like to have fun when i play and mixed melee/ranged was more headache than its worth IMO.
One thing I have realized, for my self, is if I do mixed groups I want them to be all ranged or all melee. I just got my third team to 85 and got them to the jade Serpent grind area. Its Dk tank..Priest healer, Rog, mage and hunter. It just does not feel smooth. It works, but feels so clunky. I tried to run a few RDFs with them and i just ended up playing the team like a melee..make sure everyone was in melee range. It was a pain to micro manage the DK and rog, and the 3 catsers at range.

Mixing melee and range is a bit harder, but it is very doable.
Ranged in general have to worry about spell reflect, or resistance to their spell type.
Melee in general have to worry about cleave attacks, riposte, point-blank auras and the like.
Having both on your team, means you get both worries.
It also means, if a mob has a super nasty aura... you still have the Hunter & Mage DPS; similarly, if the mob has spell reflect you still have the Ret Paladin in melee.
I personally don't like a Warrior tank, boxed.
They're quite doable, but a Druid or Paladin is easier to box efficiently.
Similarly, a Paladin healer is somewhat lacking in AoE healing power, whilst a Druid, Shaman or Priest is not.
I don't know enough about Monks to really comment on using one as tank or healer, but technically they're an option for both roles too.
My last mixed team was: Paladin (Tank), Warlock (DPS), 3x Elemental Shaman (DPS & Heals).
One shaman was dual-spec Resto, but 95% of the time I healed with all three.
I also had a mixed group with unique classes, several expansions ago: Paladin (Tank), Disc Priest (Heals), Arcane Mage, Destruction Warlock, Elemental Shaman.
