So my new 5x DK team just hit 80 today, one thing I have noticed with melee multiboxing that is frustrating the hell out of me is "runaway" toons. Meaning when I hit my interact bind most the time they will run to the target and start hitting it, but sometimes they just keep running.. Even if I start spamming the interact bind it will just run around the target in circles until I make it follow me again, stop, then interact again. After searching I have found I am not the only one with this issue, and multiple people have experienced it - I have even seen it in melee multiboxing videos.

I was wondering if there was any way to fix this, or at least reduce the chance of it happening. Right now I am doing dungeons so I can just set them on follow and run right up to the target however at 90 these will be PVP toons so that just isn't an option. Any help is appreciated! thanks

No, it is a bug with the game client.

or at least reduce the chance of it happening.
Don't spam the IWT key is pretty much the only way to lower the chance of it happening and always be ready to re-interact or re-follow

Perhaps someone else can chime in with how they go about remedying this issue.

The only really effective way I've found to prevent it is to drive with the tank, have the rest follow you up to within melee range of the target and then start attacking. Otherwise, it's just the nature of the beast that you'll have runaways.

When you IWT, you can press the key or you can spam it.

If you press it, and wait...
Your toons move towards the target and then stop.
If the target moves again, press it once and they adjust.

In PvP, you pretty much have to spam, as your opponent generally moves about constantly.

If your toon is in melee range already, pressing IWT is not going to do anything whether you press it once or spam it like crazy.
If your toon is not in melee and you spam it, you generally get the chicken with the head cut off effect... which in PvP is highly beneficial.

Basically decide if you want to selectively press it.
Or if you want to spam it.

If you opt for spamming it, you will get run away toons and can use these options to recover:
- Broadcast a slave only movement key, which will end their movement.
- IWT to a different target, which can include a lootable corpse.
- Press your Follow key quickly, while they're all still in range of the target.

You can also enable Strobe in Jamba, and set it to Strobe after combat ends.
I personally detest the Strobe, but some people like it... and it is another option.

If you press it, and wait...
Your toons move towards the target and then stop.Maybe. Except when it's prime time and the server is lagging. Or when your sister is watching the latest HD makeup tutorial. Or when the mob is one that moves right about the time you press the button. Or a host of other gotcha moments. ;)

On a single press, the toon actually moves to where the target was at the time you pressed the key.
If the target moves from the location they were at when the key was pushed, the toon still moves to the location the target was at, not where it moved to.

In my personal experience, I've never had a run-off/run-away toon as a result of pressing my IWT key once.

Hmm. Maybe they've tweaked things to be a bit more stable with regards to IWT. In my experience, I would expect at least one toon to keep right on running straight through the target at least once per boss. Hopefully, this is the case with most folks these days. I sure as hell hated those rare times when one kept on going and the size of the boss kept me from noticing it until the poor alt was hopelessly mired in lava or went splat at the bottom of a ledge. :P

IWT will still flake out depending on certain things. Casting a spell while running is a good way to see it bug out. Doing anything that increases movement speed is another. So I will often see my melee toons keep on running if my ret judges or my enhance casts a 5*MW LB while running up on a target.

It's not something that is ever going to be totally eliminated. All you can do is reduce the frequency of it. Don't spam IWT. I only send it when I need to. Keep the distance that the slaves need to run to a minimum. I do this by having my pull key also send a follow command to my melee slaves. Reduce your spam speed in general. Keep a movement or follow button handy, mine is one of the thumb buttons on my mouse.

I would not advise using Jamba's follow strobing for combat. It is useful in some situations, but for a melee team, you are most likely going to massively gimp your DPS as the slaves keep turning away from the mob to face your main. Follow strobing is great for traveling, not for combat. Straight up "Follow after combat" is the better option.
